Telford v Notts

If you learn something from every game, there shall come a point in time, when you should never lose... Jimmy Sirrel

The players are still getting used to the diamond 4-4-2 formation, it was pretty attacking with Enzio, Rodrigues, Roberts and two strikers in Sam and Knowles upfront. Enzio was playing as a right sided central midfielder a new position for him and I thought Roberts still looked dangerous considering Telford pretty much just had 11 men behind the ball in the first half.

The second half was more open but we still pretty much dominated possession for most the game. Superb double save by Pilling, who then came out and claimed the corner against a big side, I've really liked what I've seen of him so far. Pre-season is all about building and avoiding injuries, I thought we did pretty well. 3 goals isn't bad going at all especially as Wrexham only managed a 0-0 draw with them last week.

Onto Harrogate now, a game with something at stake. I wonder if they'll put their first team out...

It's encouraging and, at least Neal Ardley sees what areas are required to improve.

Once the squad settles into a regular starting 11, things should take a big step forward. Promising signings from the level of attacking floor play, along with the creativity. It does say a lot about how things are progressing for the club. Kyle Wootton seems to be in good form, he's impressed and since we're only 2 weeks away - I hope NA starts to focus in training who will likely start ahead of the opening fixture.

Compared to last season, we look a lot more comfortable and less thrown together.

A field where dreams become reality.

We are trying out new formations so we have more adaptability in league games. Good signs and obviously still things to work on. Rodrigues is impressing me with his link up play, work rate and eye for a pass.

We have players who haven't played in over half a year still getting their fitness up and getting used to the way we play. We've also got our players from last season getting used to playing a new system. Not just this, but Ardley mentioned there were players playing out of position in the 2nd half, so it's understandable that the 2nd half performance wasn't as good as the first. Good build up play to the 2nd goal though and unreal ping by Doyle to Thomas for the 3rd.

Tuesday will help us, going up against a side much fitter than us and with competitive games under their belt. It will only help the players still settling in.
