  1. Oh, for sure, there are improvements, and I don't wish to overlook them. My focus was more on the better aspects of the 1950s, as we could talk about how hard life was in the 1800s and how the 19th century was the real turning point for a better lifestyle. My points are more focused on the things we take for granted, something which I don't.
  2. It seemed my generation was more bothered about the future, and even to a degree, my youth was spent wishing my life away. My childhood, despite some issues with school and how I was treated, was always some of the best memories I have. Especially when I later moved schools, which helped change my perspective quite a bit. This said, even from the age of 6 onwards, I found the past to be very interesting. The 1950s were a huge point in the United Kingdom's history, with both previous world wars and the situation most would have found themselves in. I have a great amount of respect for this era, and although I am unable to contribute in terms of the food. I have often wondered what it would be like to have experienced it, the show on the BBC which gave families a glimpse into the past being something I wished I could have done. Also, I think just the way life used to be in the 1950s seems much better. Community spirit amongst neighbours, what seemed a much safer space for children. Plenty of family, and focus on that. Whilst we are in despair about how things are now, I think the 1950s really summed up how people tried to make the best of the possibilities they had. These days, change is focused on making someone else suffer, and it's only getting worse.
  3. I wish Notts all the very best; I hope they can get the win because the momentum and progress they have made over the season is impressive. It would be nice to see them finish as high as possible, we are very proud of them.
  4. I have had a busy few days, but a mixture of Saturday and Sunday has knocked me for six. I went to see Wheatus and Bowling for Soup on Saturday with Cheeky and Ava. It's part of the frustration with dealing with my disabilities, as they are taking over despite my weight loss. Try to be healthy; I have to be careful about just how much I push myself. I am trying to catch up with PON. I really enjoyed the gig; many will know that we have seen BFS many times, but we are big fans of them. We are back at the ice arena on Thursday, as they come to Nottingham.
  5. Notts has fallen a little since I last remember checking their league position; it's still positive, what with the club growing and how last season compares. It's a good win, 3 vital points, but it is a bit disappointing, not in a negative way, but in how different it could have been if Notts had managed to maintain their form.
  6. With the exception of some, and, of course, @super_ram. Derby fans are embarrassing and are doing the classic thing of forgetting where they came from, where they are, and where the club stands. It's even silly that their board has jumped to this conclusion. Although I am behind on this news, I think it's a sign of what is wrong with football. I wish their new manager all the success; I hope Derby stay up, but sacking a manager who has had a lot of restraints and seen form fall due to various reasons, most of which were out of his hands. It just seems very off. I think they might have been better sticking and rebuilding again, even if they did fall back into League One.
  7. It's very saddening to learn about the flag being damaged. I am aware that a lot of people didn't like the branding on the flag from the OSA, and I would hope this played no role in the damage to the flag. I hope that a new flag can be raised, rather than just the old one being sold off. We are a community, and the flag serves a great purpose before games.
  8. My grandfather was greatly annoyed by the decision to sack Mick Walker; there weren't many times when I saw him so annoyed by a decision. From the club's perspective, which crossed into concern for him. I have always been told how Mick should have been given a longer spell, and I am aware of his work involved in securing success in the Anglo-Italian Cup. Those trips to Wembley are always things I cherish. Rest in peace, Mick Walker. Thank you for everything you did for this great club.

  15. Hello, @The Cheshunt Pie. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham. I hope you enjoy being part of our Notts County community. PS. Is the "Cheshunt" pie related to a business? I noticed on Saturday, when Notts played Morecambe at Meadow Lane. A company's vehicle went past me and parked; I noticed two Notts fans get out of the van. It could be a coincidence, but it made me wonder.

  17. Hello, @Colcard. Are you related to James Sanderson? Don't feel obliged to answer, it's just nice to have you amongst our community regardless. I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community, so welcome.
  18. There are players who can go up top; Conor Grant, for example, has played as a striker. When Coventry City were in League Two, they had injuries up top, and Jodi Jones at times played as a striker. I believe he did so against us for this reason; virtually any attacking midfielder should be able to cover. I recall the 1998 season when fans told me we put different players up top, especially a centre-back, and although I did attend games that season. I am too young to remember who, plus my memory is very foggy on who played as a striker. It's a good thing we have more depth now, though I wouldn't be against giving the position to someone to cover it if we needed to, as this is the best outcome.
  19. Hello, @DistantBard24. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, I hope you enjoy being part of our Notts County community.
  20. Hello, @Michael Bramley, It's really nice to see you have joined us here. I apologise for not taking the time to welcome you sooner on site. It's been nice going down memory lane with my father @super_ram, who you have since confirmed the connection with your own father. As I have mentioned, I have heard stories about yourself and your father, Albert, and it is such a wonderful thing to have stumbled across paths in such a manner. Thank you for joining and exchanging emails. I hope you enjoy being part of our Notts County community here. πŸ–€πŸ€
  21. Don't worry, we know you are away but we could do with any active members chipping in.
  22. I thought the referee had no bottle; he easily caved, and I do think Morecambe wanted to hurt our players. I feel sorry for Jodi. He left the pitch quite angry, which was probably due to upsetness, but I felt for him! I actually felt a lot of the harsh challenges; my legs really did sympathise with Abbott, Gordon, Jodi, etc. Fifteen minutes in, I wondered why they hadn't had a card. When you are that weak, you lose the game, and to make things worse, with our support turning on the referee, he seemed to start to favour Morecambe in a more biased way. I am glad that we managed to score and keep a clean sheet. It was a good team performance, and some of the chances we really should have done better with, but that's football. Jatta toying with Schofield was enjoyable but pressing on the heart. Whitaker is really coming into it; some very smart play, and he handled the shirt pulling from Morecambe very well. Abbott, unfortunately, reacted, and I think Morecambe could have got him sent off if they had pushed him. Not sure why Jatta didn't shoot when he was put through; I thought we were quite sluggish to shoot at times, but it's a solid win. Derek Adams leaving his technical area and displaying aggression toward Maynard was absolutely ridiculous. PS. I will read the previous posts and react; it's that I just got back.
  23. Will this loan allow him to fulfill the duration of his contract? I suppose the club couldn't agree on mutually releasing him, and that it might have been a bit costly for the club's wallet. It's a shame, but no surprise. The likelihood of Junior Morias playing for us again seems to be the equivalent of me being able to play football properly.
  24. Does anyone else feel like Carlisle United is an episode of Scooby Doo? I didn't think it could get any stranger than the season we ended up being relegated, having Kevin Nolan, Harry "Useless" Kewell and then Neil Ardley. It seems Carlisle are tempting fate, whilst I would be impressed with the appointment of Mark Hughes - his stock as a manager is falling increasingly lower with each appointment. I thought Mark Hughes did very well in his Premier League days; he had a remarkable time at Blackburn, I felt. Mark Hughes is risking becoming a football meme for when a manager stays in the game beyond their competence in adapting to how things are changing. He's done nothing noteworthy to retain his position as a manager since he managed Queen's Park Rangers, and whilst I wish him well. I do like Carlisle; I think they have great fans. There's no denying they are in chaos at the moment, and they seem to think a magic wand exists. His time at Bradford City was uneventful; they had a decent squad that should have done much better, with similar money worries. Which I can see Carlisle getting into with the ways they are spending money to avoid relegation in a non-practical way. I really hope they avoid the drop. I would hope I am wrong, but I can see Mark Hughes failing in this instance because his squad has no cohesion currently. All the signings in the January transfer window seem to displace what is actually their biggest issue. They have a mismatched squad, with deeper issues than scoring goals or defending. I could put a random group of Sunday league players into a more cohesive squad. This isn't Hughes' fault mind, he's just come in at the wrong time.
  25. Today's one of those I wish I could just get over with. I have nothing of relevance or interest to say personally. Thanks Tone, keep updating us on your adventures because I will keep an eye out for them. I really hope you are enjoying it. The first image reminds me of a village (I don't think it was a town) that I stopped at when we played Newport County in 2018. It's nice to go explore areas. Great news, Robbie! (on the weightless/walking front). I try to have walks when possible, as I have also put on way too much weight. I feel like I am trimming down, but would be glad to get back to my old self. Do you have a goal on how much you wish to lose?
