Notts County 2 - 1 Sheffield United
It was daunting after they scored, I sent Joe a short message via Facebook and thought to myself that Sheffield United look very grouped. I honestly thought we was going to be dubbed and any chance of 2-1 would be waved goodbye! After they stalled, I got my thoughts together and noticed that we was being very patient. Our goal restored all hope and the fans today made the game feel epic, the lads gave 100% and happy to say the majority put in a great shift. 2-1? I had to be right sooner or later. WELL DONE NOTTS! COYP! Thanks Joe!

Stat Attack: Notts County v Sheffield United
The opening fixture needs addressing, we need to avoid any red cards and I think Notts will be okay. I am looking forward to the fixture! 2-1 Notts win. Thanks for the Stat Attack Joe!

It's a tragic ending to such a brilliant player, he won't be forgotten by any the teams fans in which he played for. This is the perfect way to pay respect to him - Highlighting his career which might not be full historic moments but the foundations of a loyal/hard working lower league player. The perfect role model! R.I.P Butch

It's taken myself and poor Cheeky months to sort this, I actually thought I had published it! What a Brilliant article though! I am sure readers and community members will appreciate your effort here Super. Even if it does take them 3 years to finish it! haha Seriously - I learned a lot, mostly about Steve and patience of course. LOL

The "thing" About Football
Football's tribal, it's a game of pride and passion. The skill came into the game as it developed, my father's written interesting articles regarding the growth from mob football to what we know today. In the early days it was about 'families' and true gentleman of the sport, it was respected and professional but contributed by people of lower classes. It was certainly the working's man game which made it what it is today, certainly not anything to do with Sky. The backbone behind the popular sport is the fact that anyone can enjoy it, that's if you give it a chance. The sport brings together a mix of people, from all walks of life and although much as changed from the days when the ball was first struck – The principles still apply. We can all see the difference from various teams, sports and types of fans. For me this is football, this is what makes the game different and unique. Our side might not be in the league which gains the most attention, the better players, the fans or board members with financial clout. However, it's what we can make of it and in our current situation we have to rally around the team we support. It's funny, one season you can be on the verge of glory and bound for the league many of our fans dream of being able to watch Notts play in. The next falling into the basement league of professional football, set-up with capable players who could achieve so much more. The thing about football is that we can make a difference, the club can strive for better things and if we can combine the two – perhaps the light will grow brighter at the end of the tunnel. I don't know about you, I can take comfort in seeing positives and hold onto the belief that one day we can get back into the Championship but this said I am more than content to watch us in any league, regardless. It really disappoints me to see our fan base splitting up. There's portions which will be around no matter what, but without sticking together the meaning behind the passion equals very little. This doesn't mean we can't survive but it limits our own dreams and there's very little point in hitting the self-destruct button when something isn't quite working. The appointment of Shaun Derry's been acceptable, the response from many fans far better than I had expected and the fact his record is quite fragile already. It's the fact he installs the pride we require, as a fan he's more likely to want to fix things and we do seem to be playing better. Yesterday I witnessed a fan becoming abusive towards fan who were being silly, I can't say I don't expect to hear a fan calling certain players, but I can ignore it. Although it's concerning when a fans whole attitude says 'I know more than you', as it would be boring if we can't discuss and if you think someone shouting 'x player your a bunch of ****' leaves room for discussion then something else is going on. So I don't understand the need to reply to each and every whimper, I thought at periods this certain fan was going to say it to someone who wouldn't back down. It's extremely dangerous and careless, especially for other fans. Opinions vary – in real life you wouldn't expect a compete stranger to share your views and the same should be said in football. You will meet some fantastic people if you're open to it, I know I've done this and I am grateful but it's saddening to see fans having ago at each other. There's very little point in starting on each other, whatever happened to agree to disagree? It happens away from the ground, you see it all over the place and it isn't just related to our fans. You see this on general football forums, where opposition fans don't allow you to express yourself and try to prevent your opinion. Even the person who inspired me to ramble on about this has that right but he should choose to do it in the right way. Just in front of him, my son sat trying to ignore his comments and for a 7 year old. It's not what you want him to witness, you don't expect a fan to respond to every little negative comment or even just general opinions – in the way that leads to arguments and an attempt to big your own knowledge up. Stewards should be more watchful of this type of behaviour, as I think it's best ignoring. Hopefully some will agree with me, I am sure I am not the only one who becomes annoyed when hearing players being bashed or negative comments but it annoys me more when people rise to this negative behaviour. Football is so much better being the sport which tries to strive for better things.

Notts County 3 - 0 Bradford City
It looked like whoever scored first would win, although it did seem likely to be a draw. I was concerned that Bradford would get the first goal if any was scored, so my delight was obvious when JCR put the ball into their net. Fantasic game and one you've sadly missed again Joe! 4-0 and now 3-0, you should miss more! No it wasn't the same without you bud. Good Match Report!

The origins of Total Football
I said this yesterday but you learn something new every day, really enjoyed reading this. Very rich article in history and information, enjoyable read. I ask Super Ram to cover the history of footabll, as it's something I greatly enjoy. This goes along side it! Thanks for submitting the article to PoN. With regards to your suggestion RE: Notts formation, I'd throw Haynes on the left and place Grealish into the middle or perhaps McGregor. Importantly it features two strikers!

View of our upcoming games
Always positive here upthepies! I think we can create some surprises and don't forget we might see some movement in January. Reinforcements will help us, especially if they're quality signing. I still think we can come away with 6 points from 5, hopefully a few more! Thanks for the comment.

View of our upcoming games
Pride of Nottingham reflections on our upcoming games against Crawley Town, Bradford City, Sheffield United, Peterborough United and Stevenage FC. Notts County’s Boxing Day defeat against Port Vale saw the Magpies’ three-game unbeaten run come to an abrupt end. As 2013 comes to a close, they need to prepare themselves wisely for some pretty big encounters to follow if they are to drag themselves out of the bottom four. After these five games, two of which see Notts face two promotion contenders, things don’t get any easier - Walsall, Preston, Coventry and Wolves. It's now we should prepare for the great escape and try to gain advantages over the lesser teams in League One. Crawley Town have the ability to get back into games where they've gone behind; they are a fairly average side, but could potentially threaten. Their season started quite brightly, even though a recent dip in form has seen them fall to 13th place. Billy Clarke is their highest goal scorer with 7 strikes to his name. They’ve had three players yellow carded four times, but nobody in the squad has been red carded more than once. In their last four games, they've picked up 4 points. The game against Preston saw them scoring twice to come back from losing positions – 2-2 was the final score. Their game against Bristol Rover (F.A Cup 2nd Round) was postponed due to weather. They then beat current league leaders Leyton Orient 3-2 away from home and lost 2-0 against the MK Dons on Boxing Day. Bradford City, a team that Notts took the lead against back in late November, is a side with some very young talented footballers. They also started their season quite brightly, although they have now in mid-table; their form of late has seen them slip since occupying the promotion places back in October. Nahki Wells is their highest goal scorer with 15 to his name, a great start to the season for the 23-year-old. They also contain threats from James Hanson and Kyel Reid who have scored 10 goals between them. Impressively, they haven't picked up any red cards, although Rory McArdle has picked up 5 yellows. In their last four games they've drawn twice; 1-1 against Oldham Athletic and 1-1 against league leaders Leyton Orient. They narrowly lost against Peterborough 2-1 and to Rotherham United 1-0 on Boxing Day. Sheffield United, a side nobody needs reminding about, has seen a disappointing 2013/2014 campaign. They’ve spent the season so far flirting with relegation, but continue to show signs that manager Nigel Clough can turn things around. The former Derby boss seems to have introduced a bit of determination to the squad after a disappointing defeat against Gillingham FC. Their highest goal scorer, Harry Maguire, has a meagre five goals to his name this season, followed closely by Jose Baxter on four. Maguire also joins us with a joint six yellow cards, along with teammate Tony McMahon. Meanwhile, former Notts striker Fabien Brandy is their only player to be sent off. In their last four games, Sheffield United have picked up five points. They beat Cambridge United 2-0 in the F.A Cup 2nd round, followed by winning Swindon Town 1-0 and then drawing in a goalless game against Stevenage FC. In their last game they drew 1-1 with Oldham Athletic after an early second half equaliser. Peterborough United, who a fan deemed 'one of the best teams in Europe' earlier in the season with us, modestly contains many key players who could be playing Championship football. They haven't fallen outside of the play-offs all season and have been league leaders a number of times, until a string of four defeats in a row – a reminder it happens to the best of us. Britt Assombalonga has scored a sensational 17 goals so far, and is Peterborough's highest goal scorer by far - Lee Tomlin, the second-highest, is on seven. Assombalonga, Michael Bostwick and Danny Swanson all have five yellow cards each, while three have each been sent off once. In their past four games, Peterborough have picked up a total of 4 points. They beat League Two Newport County in the Johnston’s Paint Trophy Southern Semi Final 3-0. They then drew 2-2 against struggling Gillingham FC, with a late 97th minute goal coming from Assombalonga. They then beat Bradford City 2-1 and lost against Coventry City having taken the lead twice, 4-2 the final score. Stevenage FC are a side whose misfortunes have seen them move clear of the relegation drop after beating Crawley, only to free fall back into the relegation zone. They are a below-average League One team with some very capable players, one of which Notts fans may remember. Francois Zoko is their highest goal scorer with 10 goals, who signed on a free transfer after we decided he wasn’t up to scratch for the Magpies. Filipe Morais is a close second with 7. Michael Doughty, a player I'm going to punt will be sent off against us, currently has a total of 9 yellow cards to his name this season but surprisingly he hasn't been sent off! However, Lucas Akins and Roarie Deacon have a red card each. In their past four games, Stevenage FC have picked up 2 points. They lost to Swindon Town in the Johnston’s Paint Trophy Southern Semi Final after an 82 minute equaliser in normal time led to a penalty shoot-out, which they lost 3-1. They then drew to Port Vale 2-2, Sheffield United 0-0 and surprisingly got thrashed by Colchester United 4-0. Perhaps a good sign? Don't get your hopes up, Zoko is no doubt going to score against us; how many times have we seen ex-players turn up to their old hunting ground and have the game of their life? I see Notts getting six points from these five games. Realistically you could say four, but in football you never know – we might come away with much more. My key game is against Sheffield United – they're a side I hope we can get something out of and perhaps surprise ourselves. The games against Crawley Town and Stevenage FC are the winnable ones; we cannot slip up. Let's hope Shaun Derry can inspire our lads to start the near year off brightly, we can do this! COYP!

Port Vale 2 - 1 Notts County
I have no idea - Deano said the first pen was harsh! second one, I don't know but the ref was poor. Grealish appeals for protection, oddly the ref does in the second have but misses obvious fouls. Oh well, Thanks Joe.

Notts Alumni: Luke Rodgers
You know we might have easy had the strongest squad in that division but each and every player had a role, no matter or what. Luke was one of those players you wished we had have kept, though allowing him to chase his dream was nice to see. Honestly, I didn't think it would go so Merrily but I sincerely wished him well. I had a few photos of Luke and Jake, Jake won't remember but he's got these to remind him of how special this time in our history was and Luke was a great player for us. He deserved the appreciation by fans, even though some nagged about him being offside so much. Good strikers will be caught off side, then eventually score. Good Alumni Joe!

Notts County 1 - 1 Bristol City
Very enjoyable game, even with the weird antics by the ref. I've just listened to Cotterills post match interview, he didn't think there was anything wrong with their challenges which injured two of our players. I can't say, though I noticed enough to say they're a dirty side. Glad we got the point! Shame we couldn't steal all 3 with Big Enoch!

PoN's December Round Up!
Christmas (sorry Tony) is looking better for us, two back to back wins and a chance for the home calling of Meadow Lane to inspire us to make further ground on the 21st. Can we make it 3 in 3? I hope so, Bristol City will be wanting to dig out themselves but it's for Notts to focus on the positives and start achieving what some thought might not happen. Derry's doing well, we just need to take the game and control it. Thanks for this write up buddy!

Colchester United 0 - 4 Notts County
What an amazing day! I'm glad I went and had the opportunity to go. We didn't play like a side struggling, I felt they looked very weak and almost pathetic at times. After we scored the first two, their defence just gave up and didn't aim to compete - oddly their attacking play could have gotten into the game. Regardless, a deserved and important win - 3 points and a clean sheet. Well Done Notts! Good Match Report

Young Trio Sign On Loan
I nearly joked about Ram and Lamb myself.
-
Young Trio Sign On Loan
I hope all three players find themselves with the opportunity of game time, as I do with our actual younger players. Hopefully Notts will consider loaning out (or at least trying) some of the players who are so deserving in gaining experience. Charlton have had the right idea by making sure these youngsters don't bench sit, so hopefully we can. Welcome to Notts County Callum, Morgan and Bradley. You Pies!

Young Trio Sign On Loan
Notts County have boosted their current crop of players with 3 more promising youngsters. On the 28/11/2013 it was announced on the Sky Sports website that Notts had landed Morgan Fox and Bradley Jordan on loan. Notts later announced the additional loan signing of Derby County youngster Callum Ball – A tall/strong centre forward who's enjoyed successful periods with their under 16's and reserve team. Shaun Derry has swiftly responded by adding players to each position that fans are voicing concerns over, with a striker was once again on the minds of our fans. Morgan Fox; A young defender who was born on 21/09/1993. Charlton Fan 'Lamby' told me, “Morgan Fox has played for Wales U21 so he's got the tackling qualities, and can also nick a few goals from corners.”. Bradley Jordan; Was born on 21/01/1994, the highly rated midfielder enjoy a successful youth campaign along side his co-team mate Morgan Fox. He's an ambitious midfielder who's considered to be one of Charlton's most mature youngsters and he comes to Meadow Lane with some much needed qualities. 'Lamby' added 'Jordan is the captain of the U21's, he's a good leader for us if he's kept the position from last season. I think he's one of the more motivational players in the youth team too. Bradley's the main free kick taker and chips in with the odd few so I'd say he's the old fashioned type of midfielder. “They've not featured in the first team much. Been on the bench a few times and that's about it. They were part of the U21 team that won the league last season. I think we've loaned them out more for the development process/game time more than anything. It'll be good to see how they get on though and I'm sure they'll make an impact on your team. They're rated highly though, ones for the future.”. Callum Ball; Started as a youngster with rival side Nottingham Forest before making a switch to Derby County's Academy at the age of 9 years old. He quickly found scoring form for the under 18's, in which he netted an impressive 25 goals and reserve level through that campaign. He also experienced winning the '09/10 Central League Central Selection Title' starting twice and scoring the winning goal against Macclesfield Town. He's enjoyed two fairly successful loan spells, 2012/2013 with Coventry City, making 15 appearances and Earlier this year with Torquay United where he scored 2 in 9 games. Super Ram told the Pride of Nottingham community, “Callum is a player I have high hopes for. He was a very prolific scorer for the under 18's and Rams reserves. He's been out on loan several times and done OK, though when he was at Coventry I believe he was injured for a while. His first team appearances for The Rams have been limited because we are fairly well off in attack. I'm sure he will do a good job for Notts (along with Kieron)” Pride of Nottingham would like to thank 'Lamby' and 'Super Ram' for their time in telling us about their respective player(s) and we would like to wish Morgan, Bradley and Callum all the very best with their careers. Hopefully they will be vital assists to our squad whilst wearing the Black & White stripes! COYP!

Wolves - Action Shots
Yesterday Notts battled bravely against Wolves who are no doubt one of the main contenders for promotion, if not the strongest team in League One. The game saw chances created by Notts, whilst both teams tried to entertain their respective fans. The final result - a narrow one, nil win to Wolves but all in all something very positive considering the lack of depth within the Notts squad. Beata Papierz-Zynda, part of B&O Press photo have kindly granted us permission to use these action shots she took at yesterday game. Please take time to look around our site... You Pies! Hartlepool Preview
I think even with the absent players, we still have a fairly strong side. The defense will be a concern with Sheehan being doubtful and Dumbuya, though it's the perfect opportunity for some of our fringe players such as Manny Smith. Holt (youngster) will likely play left back, Leacock and Smith pairing in the centre and Liddle most likely on the right. Good game for Holt, he made me very nervous at Coventry but the pressure is something he will get used to. Hopefully Derry will choose a standard formation - I honestly feel it's a game we can win and should. I rate Hartlepool, though it's one of them we cannot afford to under-perform in.

Hartlepool Preview
Perhaps not the most glamours cup tie for either side, although it's a chance for Notts to progress whilst we see if we have learnt anything from last season. Colin Coopers as made comments about Notts being able to cause an upset, with Shaun Derry's first game in charge. With Hartlepool being an in-form League Two side, it might suggest that the upset could be the other way around as Notts are currently rooted to the bottom of the League One table. The players will most likely want to impress the new coaching team, so playing a club such as Hartlepool will be a good test none the less. Hartlepool – Play somewhat patiently, they build and attack keeping the football flowing. Luke James is currently the pools highest goal scorer with 7 goals to his name. Jonathan Franks, Anthony Sweeney and James Poole are players Notts will need to watch carefully. Jack Compton returns for Hartlepool having served a three match suspension, whilst Christian Burgess will be forced to miss the game due to picking up five yellow cards. Notts – Are currently somewhat injury hit at the moment. Haydn Hollis, Enoch Showunmi, Alan Sheehan, Mustapha Dumbuya and David Bell are doubtful to feature. Marcus Haber is unavailable to play, with Danny Haynes starting his suspension after being sent off last Saturday against Coventry City. Gary Liddle returns to his former club, where he spent many years. If Notts are to proceed to the next round of the FA Cup, we will be required to be disciplined and focused throughout the game. Shaun Derry is eager to see Notts remain in the hat, just as much as Hartlepool's manager Colin Cooper. Hartlepool are favourites with odds around 5/4 for a home win, Notts come in around 2/1 and for a draw it's 12/5. Come On You Pies!!

Personal Blog - My Views...
The New Manager.... Back when CK was sacked, I didn't really much thoughts on who would replace him. I only had a shortlist of who I would hate to see in the hot seat here at Meadow Lane. Openly, I would hate to see Paolo Di Canio and he was my only real fear. I know of friends who would hate 'Steve Evans' but at least he commits to doing his home work and as a manager he really hasn't done all that bad, it's just a shame about the type of person he is. Now we've seen the likes of Shaun Derry, Brian Kerr and Dean Saunders. Are these really the types of managers we can hope to expect managing the team so many fans truly care about? It's a shame really, it's a succession of bad managers and limited ambition (on whoevers part) for the reason of why we have such a lack of uninspiring candidates. I've actually grown tired of the blame game, I don't care and the type of person I am - I want to see us all move on and accept this, the only real way in doing so in my opinion is to make sure the right person comes in. It could very well be one of the 3 names mentioned above..... Notts County..... Big club, small club or even family club. We have an image, it's not being desperate or the fact we tend to find ourselves far to often in these situations but it's the fact that WE ARE BATTLERS. Perhaps the existing squad don't realize this, along with the tradition and history which comes for playing for the magpies but they have to care. I don't suggest that they enjoy losing, certainly I have the belief that they're good enough. If we go down, I will be there and along with many others. The people who suffer really for supporting Notts, as a club which reflections on the missing fans - The current fan base which I have come to know seem to greatly care and there's a good sense of family/good spirit among them. This suggests as a fan base we are perhaps braver than the actual players, who by the way will most likely leave us after relegating us to the basement division. It will be interesting to see what loyalty these players have! Coventry..... We matched them - I can't refer to Walsall because they looked sharp in the first half and I can't say Carlisle because we were considerably better than them. Coventry looked destined to play out a mediocre game, one which Notts should have taken it to the next level - especially if they had a little of self belief and pride. Can we really be upset about losing to them? No, though it's the fashion we did. It wasn't acceptable and apologizing is not the right thing to do, pretty weak and naive. My Personal Part.... Yesterday I actually enjoyed, I don't see results as being the only important thing. I can take winning, losing and drawing but for me it's about how we do it. The game was horrible, very depressing and I'd rather not try to remember any more about that. Jake was very excited, he likes the group we go with and there's several members (like me) that can make your day just by seeing. One of which did something very nice for Jake and he hasn't stopped talking about it, I really don't mind because I love to see him being confident. It was weird visiting a team playing away from home, although I wasn't impressed by Coventry fans. They seemed very deluded and in their position I wouldn't be making a joke. At half time they gave away free pizza! It was very funny, my honest thoughts was it was a poor joke. It seemed very Americanized, whip the crowd into a frenzy and finish off by throwing football away. Pretty pathetic but I've seen other odd things, so you shouldn't really be surprised. My final thoughts, I'd hate to see people as numbers or making up for a lack. I have to say I feel a little disappointed, especially since I have to make some big decisions but I have to add that the whole day wasn't a disappointment, just watching Notts and going back home.

Coventry 3-0 Notts County
'The sooner the 'RIGHT' manager is installed the better'. You can't go fixing things by applying just glue, you need something to bond and secure the weaknesses. Horrible game to watch, very soulless and withdrawn.

It looks nice and very fancy! I'm old fashioned and for some who's spent the majority of their working life in Hospitality and Catering (top end establishments). I always feel dressing something up so fancy, is a waste of time because it won't change how it tastes and often enough takes time to perfect. You'd be amazed how quickly some dishes can be arranged though, in a matter of seconds.
