RIP Sven
It's very sad news, it made me wonder if he knew when he recently mentioned how he wanted people to remember him. I am a bit shocked by it still, and very saddened. The times I spoke with Sven at Hart's Restaurant, they will be memories I cherish. I witnessed his kindness, not only asking to speak with me after he first encountered me. Yet more for his selfless acts, the kind of charity that I witnessed where he would support charities without fuss or wanting focus on him. He was a very nice person, who treated people with nothing but respect. Rest in Peace, Sven.

Notts Alumni: Tom Keetley
Born on 16 November 1898 in Derby, Tom Keetley was a legendary English footballer who played as a centre forward. He was part of a footballing family, with several of his brothers, including Arthur, Harry, Joe, Frank and Charlie, playing professionally as well. Keetley started his career with Bradford Park Avenue before joining Doncaster Rovers in 1923. He played for Doncaster for a decade and became their all-time leading goalscorer, scoring 180 goals in 231 appearances. Keetley's impressive performances caught the eye of many clubs, and in 1929, he signed for Notts County for a fee of Β£750. Keetley's debut for the Magpies was a memorable one, as he scored a hat-trick against Bristol City in a 3-1 win. The 1930-31 season was one of his best, as he scored a remarkable 39 league goals for Notts, a record that stood for 92 years until it was broken by Macaulay Langstaff in 2023. Keetley's goals helped Notts to a third-place finish in the First Division in the 1930-31 season, their highest ever league finish. Keetley's playing style was that of a traditional centre forward, who was tall, strong and good in the air. He was also known for his ability to score goals with both his feet and head. Keetley's physical attributes and goal-scoring prowess made him a fan favourite at Notts, where he spent most of his career. His career spanned from 1919 to 1934, during which he scored 284 goals in the Football League. Despite his success on the pitch, Keetley's personal life was not without its challenges. In an era where footballers were not paid as much as they are today, Keetley struggled financially after retiring from football. He became a publican but was declared bankrupt in 1945. Keetley also suffered from ill health in his later years and died in August 1958, aged 59. Notts County fans still hold Keetley in high regard, and he is regarded as one of the club's greatest ever players. His record-breaking season in 1930-31 will always be remembered as one of the finest individual performances in the club's history. His legacy at Notts is further cemented by the fact that he is still the club's all-time leading scorer in the top flight of English football, with 64 goals in 108 appearances. Football has come a long way since Keetley's playing days, with the sport now being the most popular ball game in the world. However, the issue of the welfare of young players in academies and the challenges of life after football still persist. The tragic death of 18-year-old Jeremy Wisten has reignited soul-searching about the role football academies play in developing young players and whether the sheer scale of the operation makes it exploitative. While Keetley's career may have ended almost 90 years ago, the challenges he faced off the pitch are still relevant today. Footballers at all levels should be aware of the importance of planning for their future after their playing career comes to an end. Keetley's story serves as a reminder that footballing success on the pitch does not always translate to financial stability off the pitch. Tom Keetley's football career was one of great success, as a dominant centre-forward who played a vital role in Notts County's best-ever league finish. His memory lives on in the hearts of football fans across England. Take a walk down memory lane by reading more Notts Alumni articles on the Pride of Nottingham, published every fortnight. Bochum's cup shirt
I recall a time when Notts County sold their cup shirts to enthusiastic fans through an exciting auction. I am not sure if it was worth it and I don't remember if it did, but I would much rather the money have gone to charity. I'm struggling to remember who we had played, but I do know one player got into trouble by a certain person for refusing to give the shirt for sale. Much like when Francois Zoko got fined by the club for giving his shirt away. I am not in favour of clubs selling extra shirts, what I am in favour of is teams like Luton Town who respect their fans, by saying their supporters' money for a season by skipping a new shirt. ????

Geraldo Bajrami out for the season.
I can relate to his issues, not that I have done my ACL but from 16 I did tend to get injured a lot of playing football. He might have to seek a specialist to get some solution, but I must say it doesn't look good. Sometimes you don't know when to quit and, you can be stubborn to injuries thinking that it's something else causing them or that you are unlucky. Unfortunately, some of us are born with issues, our genes don't help, or old problems crop up and become bigger along the way. There's the risk that he could be doing more arm in the pursuit of playing football, again, nobody wants to give up and having made it as a professional footballer it's even harder, but he's still quite young. Hopefully, he can review and think about it.

The Magpieβs Eye: Notts County - A Season of Promise and Progress
@liampie + @Joshua, yes, I am caught near the end very briefly. This would have been filmed after we scored, as I am taking pictures. I like your take on the social media posts. It's like a reaction video on YouTube but not personal. Just you're responding and adding your own take on things. It's very well-written. The moment I noticed it, I gave your post a share. I still want to say "tweet and retweet", so badly.

Game 2: Loughborough Lightning v Notts County Women
I don't like the American sounding sports teams names making their way into football, "Lightening" - it sounds silly to me. I hope our women team manages to pull off another good result. COYP!

The Pride of Nottingham Launches Monthly Fan Appreciation Initiative
I have done similar things in the past via social media, and just because I have seen fans take to a certain player. It's really no fuss, I like seeing the reaction and how it pleases people. A kind gesture can make somebodies day, seeing comments, interactions lifts mine, and I am pleased to have something to focus on. I'm sure the majority of fans will appreciate this, as I am delighted that our subscribers are happy to also be a part of them. Without these kind members, it would be difficult to rely on donations or sales from our store. Thanks, mate. I do feel strongly about it. It might be something small, but once they are signed I do know fans cherish them. I wanted the subscribers to have the say on this, as it shows their involvement and how important it is. Most of them don't want anything in return, which is very heart-warming. Yet, I want them to see how their support makes a difference and I think this idea will show the community spirit side of things. Thanks for the kind comment, Lewis.

Football Radar man joins Cheltenham Town as analyst
It doesn't really mean he will be able to put into use anything practical in his new role, but it is interesting. I think it's a good opportunity for him. There's a huge wave of people giving insights into football, some are good, some aren't. Even on X.com (Twitter) some of these people just talk a good game and don't really know anything. This isn't a shot at anyone directly, it's just something I notice. Especially, when you see someone delete posts because it makes them look clueless. There's absolutely nothing wrong with giving your opinion and being incorrect; just don't pretend to be in the know. Those who do know a thing or two, will always stand out and go further. So, good luck to this former Football Radar employee.

Great investigative journalism into Inverness Caledonian Thistle
I can't read the article, since it's behind a paywall, but I do think that investigative journalism is something which still needs to be done. I hope Inverness Caledonian Thistles overcome all the issues. As a Scottish team, I have a very soft spot for them because of @GrannyPie. The shirts they wore back then were truly impressive. I really had a thing for football shirts when I was younger.

Northerner terrifies Londoners
"Will headbutt if cornered!" I remember seeing this before; it's a very funny clip. It reminds me of SNL over in the US. Unfortunately, the way the world is becoming friendliness could be a rarer sight. I can be quite grumpy, unintentionally, but I am trying to take a friendly approach by speaking and saying hello, even to people who annoy me (which is a lot when I am out and about). Those who don't look where they are walking, or are glued to their phones with loud sound playing. Being nice tends to kill their behaviour, plus it saves people's ears when I don't complain about it.

Dan & Jodi: Can Notts Keep Them?
I am not overly worried about the potential of losing Dan Crowley or Jodi Jones. I don't see Notts selling Crowley to MK Dons, I haven't seen much source of genuine interest. I am sure there's plenty watching him, but it seems to me more likely that Notts will have tougher competition at the end of the season. Jodi is enjoying his football, I think he's sensible to know that he and Notts have that connection. He had a tough time at Oxford United, and whilst I do acknowledge that he will probably have desires of playing higher. He has always come across as a loyal person, he remained with Coventry until they decided to let him go (due to injury). Personally, I think he wouldn't have wanted to leave. Notts has taken to him, with Meadow Lane becoming sort of an adopted home and I do believe that he will be wanting to see if we'll be able to play League One football. I think both players might be seeing if this is a likely possibility, it would be encouraging if Notts could strike whilst they are enjoying their football and we have the money to pay a bit more in wages. Get a new deal sorted.

Match Discussion: Game 3 - The Mariners (H)
I think Dan Crowley controlled the ball with his chest, not his arms, but the video angle does make it difficult to see clearly. The Grimsby player threw himself to the floor; it was one of the worst dives I have seen live. How the referee didn't book him for simulation I don't know. Notts made a strong start, displaying great focus and determination. Notts took control after scoring the further opening goal. I'm not even sure Grimsby had an attack in the first 15β20 minutes. If they did, I don't remember it. I mean, there were times later on when we had scored the second they looked determined to make a game of it. At times, I felt nervous about just how much we relied on two defenders to deal with their quick counters. They looked decent as a team with the ball, but clueless without it. Very poor defending, their keeper Jordan Wright had a pretty woeful game, but he was protected very well. Jodi Jones stunning goal, 100% a cross to the far post and the target was Jatta. It just flew into the net superbly, still a great goal even if he didn't mean it. I missed the Grimsby goal, I heard it was an Owler. It doesn't bother me, fans need to understand we are a squad that is League Two standard and some mistakes will happen. If they didn't, we wouldn't be in this league, nor would we have the quality that is in our squad. Even teams in the Premier League make fundamental mistakes, it's how you attack and learn. I believe we are showing signs, I am delighted for Stuart Maynard, and I would heap nothing but praise on the squad for an outstanding 90 minutes performance. Coming home, I think Mark Stallard was a bit complementary to Grimsby. I don't think they were as good as he made them sound, defensively they looked woeful, and I don't think Jordan Wright is a smart choice for their first keeper. As I said, coming into the game he makes me nervous, and I think he showed why. Yes, we were class, but Grimsby didn't really help by being pretty lacklustre. Solid win and overall performance, if we can continue to build on this we should have a good season in store.

Match Discussion: Game 3 - The Mariners (H)
Just after five, I'll be setting off with the lads to go meet a mate and his partner. I am looking forward to the game, I will be keeping an eye out on which Grimsby players I think did well. I am hoping that Notts shows the same level of ball retenion but in a manner that doesn't focus just on one wing. Sometimes the middle opens up nicely, all it needs is for one player to make a good run and whoever had the ball to spot that movement. I am sure it's going to be a good game.

Welcome to Notts, Lucas Ness
He's a very good defender. Notts has shown some smart recruitment here because he will tick boxes with how flexible he is to cover positions. I think this is a great capture for us, I am looking forward to seeing Lucas Ness play for us when the time is right. Charlton Athletic have let go a player who had the potential to be a regular starter for them. A few more seasons, I am certain he would have been in the mix of their defence.

Notts run an innovative programme for people in the community at any stage of their cancer treatment.
Creidt to Notts County Foundation and our club, it's something worth supporting and trying to make a difference. I know a lady in the KOP, who has been fighting cancer. She's a lovely woman, known her for a few years now and always remember seeing her home and away, sadly I don't think she's well enough to go now. Certainly something which makes you proud of Notts, this.

Straight Red Cards For Serious Foul Play
I remember a few challenges that Dion Kelly-Evans did whilst at Notts, some which could have easily seen him walk. Since leaving Notts, he's been a bit sulky with his previous teams and now that he's getting minutes with Woking, he commits a stupid challenge like this. It's not good or defendable by any means. Whilst I did like DKE for his effort, some of our fans cling to him like he was one of our best players, and he simply wasn't. His defending always seemed limited compared to his ability to go forward. If I had his pace, I wouldn't have slid in. It's not going to end well, he could have injured himself. I get that he's probably trying to retain his place and is just trying to work hard, but it's a poor decision. If a stream roller drove that fast, it wouldn't be permitted on a work site.

Wangiri Phone scam
I actually had a call a few days ago, my phone on silent, but I was using it to do something. I noticed the call screen come up, but it quickly ended. I heard what seemed to be a soft-spoken Japanese woman speaking very rapidly. Left a voicemail message. I couldn't make sense of it, I just deleted the voicemail. It was very odd, thankfully nothing jumped out of my phone screen like "The Ring" or one of their famous horror films. Otherwise, I would have had a heart attack.

Fair game Index revised
I think I would have to read their research before taking their thoughts as facts, it's so easy to get swept up with a lack of information. I don't have any concerns about how Notts are run; the club puts families first and does a great job with our younger fans. I am pleased that the YOUngPIES or whatever it goes under is much better run now. I would be very interested to learn why we were rated so low.

Historic Nottingham
I wouldn't mind being able to canoe around the city centre, I could use the paddle as a 2-metre distance marker when people tried walking past on their phones, totally oblivious to the fact they are knee-deep in water. ????
-
Where are they now : Christian Oxlade Chamberlain
I don't want to sound mean, but his best and only attribute was running. Yet, I wouldn't extend this to him doing it with the ball, he always looked quite clumsy and quite fortunate to be playing football. He never impressed me, and I would go as far as saying I believe clubs knew they could give him a hard time due to his lack of ability. I've never seen a player who had glimpses of looking decent enough, only to make a series of poor decisions. One of the worst crossers of the ball I have seen at Notts. I always wanted him to do well and he was friendly enough, I just never saw someone with ability. It could have been a confidence thing, but to me it was more a lack of technical ability. I'd always wish him well though.

Jodi Jones: Players Player Of The Year.
Jodi Jones is a beast when he gets his confidence going forward, in the first half against Fleetwood he seemed more annoyed and irritated. When his heads are in the game, he can be truly unstoppable going forward, and we are extremely lucky to have him at Notts. I think every fan in League Two will see Jodi as a quality player. I know Elliott who recently did the "Opposition View" with me had glowing words for him. I am pleased for Dan Crowley as well.

Match Discussion: Game 3 - The Mariners (H)
The thing I find about Grimsby Town, is they tend to like to be considered the underdogs. Danny Rose is a player we know can cause issues for defenders, but if we remain tight to him and careful in the manner we challenge for the ball. I do think he would struggle. If he starts is a different question, but they have some very good players. Jordan Davies showed good form against Cheltenham, scoring a brace. He's on loan from Wrexham for the season. I am sure he will prove to be an important part of their team, as losing him would be a bit of a blow for them. I wonder if Wrexham does have a recall lease? @Dry Nelson Ray - timing might be hard, but I am sure it's obvious where I am going with this. *wink **wink I don't rate Grimsby's keeper and I also feel their defence can be a bit ropey. Jordan Wright, much like Jake Eastwood, lacks the experience you would expect from a first team keeper. Those are their two options, both of which have travelled between clubs and always seemed a backup. Eastwood once looked quite promising, but has settled for being a reserve keeper a bit too much IMO. Wright's performance for Alfreton Town was not impressive. He was Lincoln's backup keeper before signing for Grimsby, having come through Forest academy. A bit on the short side, but can be decent on his day.
