@Michael D Pie. my report on The Black Boy Inn at Heage. We arrived around 7pm and bar was very busy, a small bar I thought but plenty of staff so service was quick. A good selection of ales, ciders etc. Eating area seemed small until we realised there was an eating area downstairs too. The menu choice was fairly large and I would call it typical pub fayre. We started with ladies going for Prawn Cocktails, and men both went for Homemade Brie wedges, decent sized portions and hot. A wide choice of mains chosen, Gammon steak, chips and peas with 2 fried eggs has I declined the pineapple slice, wife went for Scampi, chips and peas with homemade Tartare sauce, Steak, chips and peas with Stilton sauce, and the vegetarian went for tagliatelle with creamy mushroom sauce ( declined the chicken option). Friends were only ones that went for a sweet has me and wife not really pudding people, Apple crumble and custard, and cheesecake came with biscoff topping, but there were plenty of different options available. All was cooked and presented well and good portions, everyone commented on chips which were proper homemade chunky chips. Overall we were very pleased with food, choices, price was decent, and finally staff were pleasant and helpful when any questions were asked. We would definitely return so to me that’s always a good indicator
