Nobody’s blaming the result on the referee or the officials. People are just pointing out that the referee had a poor game, which is fair enough. It’s silly to say that mentioning it is just making excuses. A lot of these comments seem to be coming from people who weren’t at the match, so they won’t have the same feel for how things played out. The simple truth is that Salford City were well organised and played quite well. We gave away two goals, and for most of the match our performance felt off. That’s what made the difference. If Notts had played more attacking football, things might have turned out better. But the midfield didn’t really get going, and Matthew Dennis up front didn’t get much of a chance to show what he can do. There’s no need to panic. It’s only two games in, and the players will need to improve when facing physical sides. The main thing is, if we’re going to play with a lone striker, he needs proper support from midfield. It also shows that we could do with another striker who’s comfortable leading the line. Dennis looks promising, but he seems more like someone who plays off a main striker rather than being the one up top on his own.

Jodi has always been a player who thrives when the team’s attacking, so moving him higher up the pitch feels like a natural step. His willingness to adapt but still stay true to his strengths is something every manager values. The bit that stands out to me is how he embraces competition, not every player likes it, but he seems to see it as a way to get better. With the atmosphere at Meadow Lane tomorrow and the squad we’ve got, this could be a season where Jodi Jones really kicks on. If he stays fit, he’ll be one of our key players without doubt.

He looks like a useful footballer, and his previous experience sounds like it can transition to English football. If Mai Traore has the right attitude, he'll use this move to help us climb out of League Two or attract better opportunities for himself down the line. Somewhere in the middle would be nice, but he sounds very promising.

Let's face it, the previous owners in Trew and Hardy neither knew what it took to find and encourage good players nor harbour a supportive fan community. I would fear a fan zone under them, especially the Trews. While a live game of Cluedo might be fun, I wouldn't want the politics causing alienation of the fan base. To get on the subject, I think you can see the stats side of the recruitment coming into it now that things have settled. The club is doing wonders in identifying players. Some haven't worked, like Will Randall. I think that's more down to the player than the recruitment itself. There will be fails and duds, but when you are winning games, it's a lot easier to foster that winning mentality. The first season, we signed what we could. The campaign after that, the real squad building started to take place and in time it led to investing properly into the team. With the current campaign being the best season, I feel the recruitment can't be faulted. A strong focus on fixing the goalkeeping and defensive issues, adding to the wider weaknesses, especially in terms of the ability to defend. Yes, I would like to have had Macaulay Langstaff replaced earlier, but I think waiting until January made the board realise what funds remain would be best spent going for promotion. It's nice to read and feel optimistic about every signing, without worrying if they will fit or do well. That's a big, big improvement, don't you think?

Luke Williams is very detailed in his approach to coaching; he thinks a lot about protecting his players first and foremost. That’s a great thing, as some managers will insist more from players due to their position being on the line if success doesn’t come. I am sure this isn’t the case for Williams. Yet, he takes care of the injured players and acknowledges that it’s important to keep Cedwyn Scott’s injury quiet for now, which is a very respectful sign of that. His coaching and management style is impressive; he is the best manager Notts has truly had in decades.

All I am going to say, is prepare for a meltdown if Tamworth end up getting the better of Notts.

I think at this point people just need to look out for their families and respect the guidelines, the death rate is enough to make most take this pandemic seriously.

I'm away, so it will be the first game I've missed also season at Meadow Lane. Notts have to start bright and positive early on, they perform better with this approach and the confidence just picks up.
