Match Discussion: Game 28 - Pools (H)
@notts-joe I am still questioning Jamie's mindset over Valencic. The one spark of creativity at Crawley and has not featured playing since. The danger is that he goes with Smith as one of his substitutes at home and not giving us a chance of making a creative change, if we need to Edit... I am still of the opinion we need to let the opposition worry about us at home in an offensive attacking sense rather than set up to just nullify the away team.

@notts-joe I am not advocating tinkering that much, but to at least have a midfield berth for either Valencic Aborah or Snijders

@Dripsey3 The set ups away from home may not be entirely applicable to what we need at home. I hope Jamie now recognises this and includes some creative flair like Valencic, Stanley or Snijders.

Match Discussion: Game 27 - The Hatters (A)
@Super_Danny_Allsopp I agree the timing could have been better..but to say in January? Yes, we were starting to go through a bad patch, but no one at that time, was really calling for his head. Maybe the final straw were the cost and perceived "quality" of the new and loan signings in that January transfer window? Whoever scouted these, well we may never know. I would add that if Derry had continued, the ultimate outcome was to be the same, one of the worst, if not the worst home record in 150 years and you were still prepared to give him more time? At least it gave the new manager a few weeks to analyse just how many shortcomings of the squad he had inherited.

Just a few words in appreciation of @erindoors giving insights from the questions asked in this thread. @Super_Danny_Allsopp I have to say SDA that I take issue with your comment concerning Derry's departure "Last gasp attempt to preserve L1 status"..As Erindoors implied, the big picture was there for all to see, a poor footballing philosophy which patently wasn't working @ivansneck I must express these are my sentiments too... Quote "Under Ricardo Moniz, I saw some of the most fluid attacking football that I have ever seen in England. Of course it was of 4th division standard, but it was the attitude, the freedom, the movement, the enjoyment I loved. Like a number of my friends we were suddenly looking forward to home games and being happy even in defeat. Yes it's a romantic view, and leads to glorious failure at times, but I go to sport to be entertained, enthused etc." Unquote It is good to see that in order to achieve sustainability, the building blocks of the Reserve side, does show that we have some good youngsters coming through, for the first time for many years. I am hopeful that Wildin Agathise, Gibson and the return of Pedro's son from Sligo could have real opportunities in next season's squad. The real plead is for Jamie to acknowledge that the back to basics defending can be enhanced by having creative players, harking back to the days of "Rash the smash" and the likes of McSweeeeeeeeeegan types of players COYP

Match Report: Youth Team - Grimsby Town
Always a good read @Shepshed_Pie. I seem to recall you mentioned last season a youth player that was related to Lloyd Richards. Is it Jordon Richards?

Match Discussion: Game 27 - The Hatters (A)
@NewNottsFan Maybe you have misread me. Certainly I do not class myself in the "negative" mode, far from it. I was just pointing out some contradiction between perceptions about Bennett and Stanley. Looking forward to the next game with renewed hope.

Much more reassured that we now know how to set up away from home. The great Jimmy's teams were always hard to beat. I think we are just looking for signs of hope and reassurance that "creative" players have a place, especially at home.

Match Discussion: Game 27 - The Hatters (A)
@NewNottsFan "unless he's not putting a shift in"...well, if you saw Bennett last week, that wasn't a shift in my book. if Jamie has a Derry or Paul Hart mindset, then his appointment is a big mistake. It is important for Jamie to take the crowd with him in support, ..so we look for success today

Match Discussion: Game 27 - The Hatters (A)
@NewNottsFan I am already concerned re Stanley. Stanley has been a real spark of light this season and his dead ball delivery in his last full match was better than anyone else at the club. The trouble is that Jamie seems to have dropped into a Derry type mind set. If he is forcing Stanley out, then what small goodwill that remains will evaporate. If he ever does that, it will not be in my name, creativity and skill must have some place in my Notts County #StanleyIn

Jamie Fullarton: 'I want Notts County fans to be proud of their team'
@notts-joe @Joe JonesThe big fear from the above is that he is putting work rate far above skill and creativity. He has to accomodate the latter into the balance otherwise the future will be bleak

Alex West column: Just what is Notts County's agenda?
Just to step back one moment to ponder, Ray's appointment of Ricardo meant a seismic change in football philosophy, to a progressive total football style along the lines that Swansea followed when they were in League 2. Well Ricardo's gung ho football did not deliver the results one would have anticipated. We naturally assumed that Jamie was a more refined manager but still following Ricardo's style. On the evidence so far, we have retrenched back to Derry's hoofball but with a squad Ricardo built. Are the "pure" footballing talent being marginalised? What exactly did Winter mean by "Best fit"? We will see what Saturday brings

Alex West column: Just what is Notts County's agenda?
@Alex West A nicely written piece. In terms of the squad, it is the piece of the squad that you have not highlighted that has been our downfall, namely the central defence ( and maybe the full backs too). We now have a glut of midfield players but the key elements of the defence were not given sufficient scrutiny. The shopping list last summer had to include a decent tall, no nonsense centre half. All we got was Bennett, which despite of so called good reports from Newport, doesnt really have the stature of what we were really looking for. Amevor, for the Reserves, looks more comfortable as a centre half but whether he gets the chance for the first team, maybe we will never know. Some people have been praising the return of Adams. So when he does return, along with Bennett, they both get played in their secondary positions....midfield..isn't that where we are overloaded with "talent" in those positions? In the Reserves, the defence is working fine, given the number of clean sheets. We just live in hope that Jamie pulls the lever on the one arm bandit and comes up with a winning defensive combination that works. All we have got so far on the machine are the proverbial Melons, with a soft centre

Slightly impressive debuts and then disappoint
@liampie Chris Iwelumo from Watford I seem to recall. File under Dan Chillingworth, Leroy Lita, and countless others in terms of effect.

http://www.nottinghampost.com/Notts-County-0-AFC-Wimbledon-2-Player-ratings/story-28594338-detail/story.html Elite has already posted elsewhere... I would respect a reporter to at least be objective. If that was a 6/10 performance especially for the likes of Bennett, well I am a Tarkers like damp squib / squid. Amending Jimmy's famous words...The best team always win, the rest is just a Powerpoint presentation (only gossip)
-
Slightly impressive debuts and then disappoint
David Clarke ( going back some years for some) although scoring on his debut, I would never have classed it as impressive. In more recent times, Billy Daniels stunner against Crewe.
-
Slightly impressive debuts and then disappoint
@notts-joe started me thinking. Hayhurst, an impressive debut?, I think not. Yes, an assist for a goal but isn't that what he is paid to do? Well, players that can be added to such a category... Dadi, McCourt, Fotheringham, Angell... I am sure there are plenty of others over the years

Notts County succumb to meek defeat against AFC Wimbledon
@NorthantsPie One can say The Undertaker has taken the midfield diamond to a new extreme, The Coffin. two upfront, two near them but slightly wider not knowing what to do, the other two a long way back. Tactical plan, hoof it into the box tis a dead giveaway

@Northants Pie You missed his alleged other quote.. "Players that score spectacular goals like the one at Crawley have no place in my side". Perhaps it was edited out
