Match Discussion: League Two - Accrington Stanley (A)
Notts have a good recent record against Accrington. In the last four league games between the two sides, Notts are unbeaten with three wins & one draw. Accrington currently stand in 16th place in League 2 with thirty points. Notts will be hoping to repeat their creditable performance that they achieved against MK Dons on 29th December. Notts will be hoping that Kouhyar will be fit to play after he went off injured against MK. I expect Martin to keep with the same side that started against MK, unless Kouhyar is unfit to play. It will be important for Notts to get back to winning ways, after two draws & one defeat in their last three matches. No match in League Two is easy & this match will be no different & I'm sure Accrington will sit back and try not to make it easy for Notts, but I do believe that Notts will get the win which will keep them in touch with the leaders. I predict a 3:0 win🙏

Getting your best players on the pitch
Certain players were brought into the team because the powers that be at the Club thought that those players would be able to execute the playing style that the Club prefer to play. That formation being a 3-4-2-1 or a variation around that formation. I agree that creativity in this team is important & that this style of play needs creative players to make it work successfully. I still believe that having a back three is my preferred option. Having two wingbacks that are good defensively is a must, along with two strong central midfielders that can also drive forward & initiate attacks. I do think that Martin is right to encourage competitiveness in the squad, & players should have to fight for their place, but I don't necessarily think that Notts should change a style or formation just to accommodate having as many of the better gifted players in the side as possible. Martin has to ensure that the side is collectively his strongest all over the pitch, & that sometimes means that some of the gifted players may have to wait their opportunity on the bench.

Half way mark - Players of the season so far
For me it has primarily been a team effort that has Notts currently in sixth place just four points behind a promotion place after 23 games. My top five, not any particular order, who have stood above the rest are. Matt Dennis, 22 appearances, 10 goals & 1 assist.Conor Grant, 22 appearances, 2 goals & 1 assist.Tom Iorpenda, 23 appearances, 2 goals & 4 assists.Jacob Bedeau, 23 appearances & 1 assist. Captaining the side in Palmer's absence.Nick Tsaroulla, 21 appearances, 2 goals & 3 assists.I think all of these players have performed at a consistent level over a large number of games. There are also players who have played less games & played at a high level too, but I am looking for consistency over the largest number of games, so that is how I made my choice.

Who's your Man of the Match v MK Dons (A)?
The same players seem to be featuring very highly at the moment. The defensive team of Macari, Platt & Bedeau & Iorpenda & Norburn. I think that Tsaroulla did well & Kouhyar had a good game too before he was taken off injured. Out of those players I mentioned I'm going for Iorpenda as my M of the M, who I thought had a great game. It will be hard for Martin to replace him in the centre of midfield the way he is playing.

Match Discussion: League Two - MK Dons (A)
I'm pleased that Notts turned things around from the terrible performance against Chesterfield to being the best side against MK Dons. Iorpenda seems to get better with every match & it will be difficult for Palmer & Robertson to dislodge him. Kouhyar had a good game before he became injured. I still think that Tsaroulla's best position is in the left which he demonstrated clearly against MK. Notts deserved to win the match & were unfortunate to lose the lead by an individual mistake. Chesterfield & Walsall lost while Salford drew their match, so Notts are still up there & in the mix. It is going to be a close fought fight for promotion in the 2nd half of the season with every match being competitive & tough to win. The January transfer window could prove to be vital.
