  5. It's been a lovely day today after a bit of a misty start this morning. 24 Deg C here. Walked my couple of miles this morning,15 miles for the week. No football this afternoon at the Euros. Both matches tonite at 8 pm, Looking forward to watching Scotland to see if they can qualify. Helped the wife with a bit of housework. Trying to do my bit since retiring. During this election watching no TV news channels or election broadcasts, sometimes there are better things to do.
  6. On a serious note I wonder why elite players that play for England on a regular basis can't be put on an England central contract, where they are released by their clubs for a fixed amount of time during a season when there is a major international competition, so that the players can train together for 10 to 15 weeks prior to the competition. Those teams that lose players could be allowed additional players in their squad, while those players are absent from their teams. I know that it wouldn't be good for the clubs, & there is the financial issue too, but some way has to be found to get those individual players to play like a team and know each other backwards. Other Countries do it, so why can't we?
  7. I'm just wandering don't we have another attacking midfielder in Didzy? When strikers get older some do revert to an attacking or central midfield role, I can think of famous players like Rooney, Messi, & Ronaldo that have finished up in midfield when they lose some of their pace I think Didzy was kinda doing a type of halfway role for Notts last season
  8. Update. Clarke & Haynes both out after making 50s Notts are 185/6
  9. @Wheelbarrow repair man The 2nd Telly does come in handy sometimes ????
  10. @Wheelbarrow repair man You missed out Belgium . They were quite good last night playing as a team.
  11. @Wheelbarrow repair man Found this on Sam's Wiki page and I quote. "Some analysts have labelled Allardyce a long ball manager, though he has disputed this perception as "totally & utterly wrong." He takes a modern technology & statistics-centred approach to tactics & coaching & has been praised for his organisational & man-management skills". I think he has learned a lot over his 33 years of Football management and people do change. I can remember being upset when Warnock left Notts, I was upset when Big Sam left, the same feeling when Luke left, I'm not quite over Luke leaving yet, but I will be sooner, rather than later. All three are legends as far as I'm concerned. I would also like to thank all PON members who have contributed with different opinions on this subject. We may see things differently on occasions but we always respect everyone else's view. That's what makes our community special.
  12. Now that we are getting to the Nitty gritty of the group matches of Euro 24, we have a change in the match schedule. The final set of group matches in each group will be played at the same time at 8 pm UK time. A: Switzerland vs Germany (Frankfurt, 20:00) A: Scotland vs Hungary (Stuttgart, 20:00)
  13. Lunch on the first day. Notts are 111/3. Haynes n/o 23, Clarke n/o 15
  14. @DangerousSausage Big Sam has 33 years experience in Football Management throughout the Football league included managing Premier League players as well as EFL players. His knowledge would be so valuable as an international coach. And don't forget, a Manager of an international side has a team of coaches working for him, so I think Big Sam could be successful with managing a team of coaches overseeing a national side. The England side is clearly lacking motivation and all the coaching skills in the World can't motivate players, but some Managers can, and I believe Big Sam is one of those managers.
  15. If Newfoundland & Labrador have sponsored Barrow good luck to Barrow. It is a good thing that some money is going to a club that needs it, and it gets Barrow some publicity too. California or Texas can come sponsor Notts front of shirt if they want for several million pounds, I wouldn't say no
  16. Notts Captain Hameed wins the toss and Notts will bat first. Notts team below ????
  17. Would you have picked Big Sam to manage Notts when they did in 1997?
  18. If one reads the link all the way through Big Sam was cleared of any wrongdoing. Nothing to see here.
  19. Exactly @Wheelbarrow repair man Big Sam is a legend at Notts, because he lead Notts to promotion as champions of Division Three at the end of the 1997–98 season, built upon a three-man defence and a mid-season run of ten consecutive wins. Notts broke several club & national records, winning the title by a 19 point margin & becoming the first post-war side to win promotion in March. (Source Google) And ever since that success Big Sam has always been in demand and has never had a problem getting a Managerial position in the years since his time at Notts.
  20. Red ball Cricket returns today with the first day of four, of the County Championship Division 1 match between Notts & Somerset. Play is scheduled to start at 11am. Updates to follow throughout the match
  21. VAR disallowed a Lukaku goal due to this fine margin, a toe end. Is this decision to disallow the Lukaku goal the right decision or is it the wrong decision? I think the decision to call offside is wrong because the naked eye could never determine whether Lukaku was offside or not. And that is just the point. The offside law was never meant to be judged in this way by freezing frames like this. It was meant to be judged by the naked eye of a linesman in true time.
