  1. Luke Williams is the best man to get us challenging for promotion. Don't forget, we are still in a position to challenge for promotion in 2024. We have to take note that we have stepped up a level. We have to compete with every team in this league no matter where that team is in this league they will all be tough. We've already seen it in the first half of the season. All the teams are capable of beating each other in this league. Teams have studied us and they have their plans to exploit any weakness we have. We just have to ensure their plans don't succeed. I've no doubt Luke will sort things out in the new year with the right recruitment to strengthen our squad.
  2. Welcome @Max Roberts from a fellow newbie in arms
  3. I'm a newbie just like you. Welcome @StanfordPie Newbies aren't newbies for long.
  4. For me I've always been one for the players to do their talking on the pitch. The Manager/ Head Coach is obligated to face the media of course. Always good to get their thoughts and feedback. That's fine. Players are under enough pressure to perform week after week without having to worry about having to face the media for post match interviews.
  5. I agree with others. Aidan just lacks confidence, just as other members of the team do. It will pass after a set of good results.
  6. A fantastic 12 months of success for our great club. The progress that we have made during this time is absolutely remarkable, but also well deserved, setting records on the way. Not only winning promotion, but in a position at the end of 2023 to challenge for back to back promotions. Roll on 2024.
  7. I believe the Champions league should be for one set of Clubs, Champions only of their national Premier leagues. When they increased the number of clubs that could qualify they devalued the competition & it became just a money making exercise, and it also finished up devaluing the Cup completions because the big clubs field their weaker teams now.
  8. Like with every Notts fan, I've gone through every emotion following this Club. This club has something special about it. The history, the successes tinged with the failures, the ups, & the downs, Witnessing milestones like 3k, 4k & 5k league matches Privileged to see 3 great Managers and witnessing us going from the Fourth to the First Division. And last but certainly not least, being part of this great and loyal fanbase that have played their part in the success of the club. Long may it continue.
  9. I believe in Luke Williams & I am convinced that he will get us out of the blip in form, & turn things around in the new year. To be still in sixth place and challenging for a play off spot halfway through the season. I'm sure many Notts fans would have settled for that at the beginning of the campaign.
  10. I believe this is a great signing for Notts. Lewis is an exciting young player that has loads of potential to grow, and I look forward to seeing his further progression in the black and white.
  11. Macaulay has written himself into Notts County folklore with his goals that got us back into the Football League. I just hope that he will stick around at Meadow Lane for a few years because he can certainly make more history for Notts & help us to climb that Football pyramid.
  12. Agree: Our attacking prowess has always been our strength and has been masking our failings in defence since the beginning of the season. That's why I'm confident that once we have sorted out our defensive shortcomings, we can push on after the new year. We really need a good start to the game on Boxing day.
  13. I used to go to the matches for a while with my elder cousin. He was a big Notts fan. It was through him that I became a Notts supporter.
  14. A Merry Christmas to you all.
  15. Hull City 2 v Sunderland 0 Watford 2 v Bristol City 1 Exeter City 1 v Wycombe W 2 Fleetwood Town 1 v Carlisle United 1 Barrow 2 v Stockport County 1 Joker Bradford City 2 v Morecambe 3 Altrincham 0v Halifax Town 1 Southend United 3 v Barnet 1
  16. I have such great memories of our grand old stadium at Meadow Lane. I can remember when we played Everton in the FA Cup at home on a wet day in March 1984, standing on the Cop getting wet through. The ground was absolutely packed with 10K Everton fans. We lost to an Andy Gray header he headed in only a few inches off the ground. When I was a boy I would stand at the front of the Cop, behind the goal. When I grew taller, I would watch Notts standing on the County Road side or pop side. There was a large step at the back of the lower tier that you could get a good view from standing at the half way line if you got a place there. Spent many years standing. Never sat down until it became all seater. How many of you remember our old ground and where did you watch the games. Did you prefer to sit or stand?
  17. Definitely. And another important change that has crept into the game is the Head Coach not picking the players to bring in to his club. It's right that the Manager should consult others over recruitment, but the Manager should have the final say over who to recruit.
  18. Notts Country is a founding member of the Football League and now has 5000 league matches behind them. What a fantastic achievement and what a legacy to have. I'm so immensely proud of my club.
  19. Cooper's sacking is just an example of the way Football is going since the Premier League was formed. A Manager has a bad run of 10 games or less & there's a clamour, pushed by the media, & pundits to replace him. On the other hand, in the lower leagues of the EFL, Managers are poached by higher league clubs to the detriment of those lower clubs. The rest are always playing catch up, & it's difficult enough to climb through the leagues, without losing a good Manager & then appoint a good replacement. Luke has done wonders for our club & I'm sure there are other clubs keeping their eye on his progress. It would be hard for Notts to replace him if he moved on.
  20. Thanks for the welcome.
  21. Agree. The officials in Rugby & Cricket seem to be clued up and work with their VAR system much better than the Football officials do. I thought that VAR was supposed to eliminate most of the mistakes by the Ref but it is clearly not doing that at all. VAR is actually causing even more controversy.
  22. Again, expert analysis by Mark. I agree that we are lacking inspiration on the pitch at this time. I believe that confidence leads to an inspired performance & confidence is clearly on the low side following a poor set of results. I do believe that we could do no wrong by signing a player with a presence on the pitch, who's prepared get stuck in, a bit of a hard man, tall, strong, & can lead & inspire others on the pitch, a Brian Kilcline type. I'd also sign an additional defender, defensive midfielder & additional attacker. I also believe our tactics should be a little different for away matches being a little more defensive & rely on the quick break more.We have shown that we can create & score goals playing in different ways. We will always be a threat to any side with our forward line. In the end it is Luke that has to get things right, and I'm confident he'll do that.
  23. Yes Piethagoram, I think the best team lost when we played Brescia in our first Anglo-Italian final at Wembley. McSwegan should have buried that chance in the 1st half, the handball by their player that should have been a pen & Charlie Palmer's effort that was blocked on their line in the dying seconds of the match from another long throw from Andy Legg. Then of course there was Steve Cherry's unfortunate mistake that led to their winning goal.
