Eating in the 1950s
This will amuse some of our older members. Eating in the 50s Pasta was not commonly eaten. Curry was a surname. A takeaway was a mathematical problem. A pizza was associated with a leaning tower. Crisps were plain; the only choice we had was whether to add salt or not. Rice was only served as a milk pudding. A raincoat was what we wore when it rained. Brown bread was considerd food only for the poor. Oil was for lubricating; fat was for cooking. Tea was brewed in a teapot using tea leaves, and green tea was unheard of. Sugar was highly regarded, considered "white gold," and cubed sugar was seen as luxurious. Fish didn’t have fingers. Eating raw fish was seen as poverty, not sushi. None of us had ever heard of yogurt. Healthy food consisted of anything edible. People who didn’t peel potatoes were viewed as lazy. Indian restaurants existed only in India. Cooking outdoors was called camping. Seaweed was not recognized as food. "Kebab" wasn’t even a word, let alone a type of food. Prunes were considered medicinal. Surprisingly, muesli was available, but it was called cattle feed. Water came straight from the tap; if someone had suggested bottling it and charging more than petrol, they would have been laughed at! And the things we never, ever had on our table in the 50s and 60s: elbows or phones. Credit Goes To The Respective Owner

RIP Mick Walker
We played some great football under Mick both as Youth Coach, when he brought some great players through the system and later as manager when he took over from Neil Warnock.

Match Discussion: Game 31 - The Shrimps (H)
After last night result for Doncaster Notts will go second if we win, this has to be a big incentive for the players if they need one, I don’t care how we play as long as we get a win, it’s all about results now so win ugly if you have to. COME ON YOU PIES!

Swansea Sniffing Around Richard Montague... again..?
Luke Williams interview here seems to support the rumour, he talks about someone coming to the club as Director of Football.
-
Stuart Maynard delighted to keep in-demand Jatta at Notts
I think we are all delighted to be honest.

Swansea Sniffing Around Richard Montague... again..?
As you say @Robbie it’s a rumour at present sometimes these things get started by one person then it gets picked up by someone else and before you know it the rumour appears to be coming from several different sources. Lets hope there’s no truth in it because he’s doing a great job for us and the brothers certainly won’t want to lose him.

Excellent choice @super_ram I love that album. We are back home now it was only 1 hour 40 minutes so not too long a drive, the house is freezing though, after having had the heating switched off for a week, I think I’ll invest in one of those gadgets that lets you switch the heating on remotely.

Should 3 Clubs be promoted from the National League?
When we were in the National league I was definitely in favour of 3 teams being promoted but now we are in the league I’m not sure, in case we get sucked into a relegation fight in the future, is that selfish? Probably. 😊

@Robbie it sounds as if you are around my weight, I too would like to get under 13 stone but every time I get somewhere near I have a holiday and eat and drink more than I would normally. ☹️

Weekly Chat Monday 3rd - Sunday 9th February
After saying we were going to have a relaxing day we changed our minds and walked into York again because we wanted to walk on the walls, however I don’t like heights and they were very high in parts with no rails in parts so we walked part way then as soon as we could we got off with my legs feeling like jelly. We walked around the rest of the walls on ground level which I was much happier with. Once we’d done that we had lunch in a lovely old pub and I had a pint of Timothy Taylor’s Landlord. Back home tomorrow and back to reality after a lovely holiday.

Weekly Chat Monday 3rd - Sunday 9th February
Good morning, it’s a chilly start here. The last day of our holiday today, so we are going to have a bit of a gentle day, we’ve walked lots during the last week, yesterday we walked into York along the River Ouse and back again, it’s longer than walking along the road but more pleasant. @CliftonMagpie glad to hear you are on the mend and also pleased to hear @liampie is feeling better. Sorry to hear the gaffer @Chris is suffering though, I hope things improve soon. Nice pictures @Piethagoram a friend lives in Bourton on the water the Cotswolds is a lovely area of the uk. @menzinho we love the Canaries in winter we sometimes go in February but this year we are going in March, it’s great to get away from the winter gloom, I hope you get something fixed up. Keep posting folks it’s great to hear your news.
