  1. Kevin Nolan has spoken of the virus which is currently plaguing the Notts County setup and is hoping that it will clear up in the next week or two. A number of players have been suffering with the bug as Elliott Hewitt missed the games against Swansea City and Barnet. Alan Smith and Lewis Alessandra, meanwhile, both sat out the trip to the Hive, and Nolan has acknowledged that it's "going through the whole club" at present. "I've not been feeling great myself and Richard Thomas has been the same," Nolan told the official club site on Monday ahead of the Carlisle United fixture. "The kit man, the PA and the psychologist have all had it, so it's going through the whole club at the minute. "Every 24 hours we're getting two players back but losing another two! "It's unfortunate that this bug has surfaced when we're spending a lot of time with one another on the coach and at hotels. "It's hit us harder than if we were playing Saturday-to-Saturday or at home because I would have been able to give the lads some time away from each other. "We're hopeful we can get over it in the next week or two and have a fully-fit squad again." 2. Notts County's FA Cup journey ended on a sour note as Swansea City ran out 8-1 winners in their FA Cup fourth-round replay at the Liberty Stadium. Tammy Abraham and Nathan Dyer grabbed braces, while Kyle Naughton, Wayne Routledge, Tom Carroll and Daniel James all scored one apiece as Noor Husin's impressive 35th-minute strike proved a scant consolation. How did the Kevin Nolan, the Notts players and the fans react to the result? Pride of Nottingham has compiled the post-match reaction. Kevin Nolan "When you come to these clubs you have to hope for a bit of luck and that they don't treat it as well as they did tonight. "They showed their quality and their class and when you have that you have to hope your players play to their maximum but I just don't think we were there tonight as individuals and a team. "I don't think we deserved to lose 8-1 but everything they hit seemed to go in. "I can't put it into words (how good the fans were). They were quality throughout the game and they deserved to be here today. "I'm just sorry that we couldn't keep the scoreline down and give them more to shout, sing and dance about. "They kept me right up for it and hopefully that can continue between now and the end of the season and we can give them something back." Notts players on social media The Black and White Army Northants Pie: Its not getting beat thats embarrasing its the way we have just been statues with no pace and made them look like fooking Barcelona. We have been a joke tonight, I don't care for the whole their Premier league etc etc, we have been an absolute joke. My little lad has just gone to bed heart broken by our farcical performance. One thing it did show is our severe lack of pace all over the pitch, this will need to be rectified in the summer (I'm sure it is already being planned for). We desperately needed Liam Noble on the pitch, his tenacity and willingness to get stuck in was so badly needed last night, the only time any of our players gave them something to think about was when Alan Smith came on and let a couple if them know they were actually in a game and not an exhibition against a bunch of infant school children. Piethagoram: Having travelled to the Liberty..and waited ages for a taxi in the freezing conditions.... can't feel my feet..... Anyway, Swansea had targeted Dicko for his lack of pace and inability to put in real challenges. However, the real problem lay with Virtue.... Defensively so inept, was wandering around midfield without ever picking up a man, hence Swansea could pass through our midfield at will. Hewitt would have put in a shift, which would have given us a chance Even experienced pros like Hunt, one pass cost a goal but his kick it anywhere...when we needed to control possession. At least The General showed how to tackle and put in challenges. I hope this has opened Nolan's eyes... we missed Yates as Virtue is no substitute. We could not win the second ball to save our lives. Ian Kirke: I was there in person. I could have stayed at home and watched it on the box with my feet up. But no, I made the effort and travelled over 6 hours there and back. It was a gutless display. Some Notts fans will defend the indefensible and remind us all of where we were this time last year and use offensive language to justify their moronic jibes. But that was a spineless display lacking effort or respect for the Notts fans who sang their hearts out all night. I sincerely hope it’s the trigger point that propels us to promotion, but please don’t paper over the cracks Mr Nolan. True Notts fans can forgive if the team display passion, effort and heart but don’t expect me to join in the ‘Oh it was only the FA Cup’ & ‘They were a Premiership side what do you expect?’. I expect passion. That wasn’t evident last night. Paul Bowers: On sat Hardy does a brilliant thing to bring in thousands of potential new fans in to the club. On Tuesday we put on a pathetic display on national tv and drive them all away again.I don’t think anybody minds that we lost, but to not even put up a fight was soul distroying and has turned us in to this mornings joke. We need to get bums on seats and I’m afraid that’s not helped. Trevor Robinson: This is what happens when key players are missing and you give your opponent's far too much respect. We gave them too much room and let them come at us every time. Elliot Hewitt you were sorely missed.... Dave Woolley: Yes, to all off the comments below. Humiliation, however I would sooner lose that 8- 1 than have won it 1 - 0 then go and lose or draw on Saturday. We must win on Saturday and 1 - 0 will do..... keep the faith lads. 3. Alan Hardy has praised Notts County's fans for their "astonishingly good" support at Swansea City and stresses the need to focus on League Two beginning with today's game with Barnet. The Magpies fans continued to sing even when their team was on the receiving end of a 8-1 defeat in Tuesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay at the Liberty Stadium. Hardy admits the heavy loss left him struggling to sleep afterwards and says he felt sorry for the travelling fans, but is eager to move on and hopefully end the week with a win at the Hive Stadium. "I didn’t sleep well afterwards as I didn’t doze off until 3am," the club owner wrote in his weekly Nottingham Post column. "I was reasonably philosophical but I just wanted to be on my own. "I didn’t care about the money and I felt sorry for the fans because they were astonishingly good. They never stopped singing and the majority of them would have travelled back that night. "It wasn’t a nice feeling knowing they had seen the team lose 8-1 but we move on and now our sole focus is the league, in which we have a massive game at Barnet this weekend. "We are in an excellent position, although it is incredibly tight at the top. "With six of the top eight playing each other this weekend, it represents a good chance to open up a slight gap on some of our rivals. "Let’s hope we can end the week with a win as we chase our ultimate goal - to seal one of those automatic promotion places." 4. Kevin Nolan has stressed that Notts County's players will become stronger following the FA Cup elimination at the hands of Swansea City in midweek. The Magpies did superbly to earn a fourth-round replay against the Swans after holding them to a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane in the first game. However, Carlos Carvalhal is working miracles with his new side, who have beaten both Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League prior to meeting Notts at the Liberty Stadium. As it turned out, the Welsh side was in rampant form which, combined with a County off day, culminated in a 8-1 hammering. Nolan has suggested that, in hindsight, the prospect of beating a side experiencing such an upturn in form was perhaps a bit "crazy" but the gaffer is eager to now kick on in League Two, beginning with Barnet away. “The last two results Swansea had at home before playing us was beating Arsenal and Liverpool,” he told the Nottingham Post. “But people thought we could go there and get a result. When you look at it like that it’s crazy. “That’s what football does and that was because of what we produced in the first game against them. “That was down to the players, not me. They made people believe they could cause an upset. “That’s why the BBC chose to screen the game live. We maybe froze a bit, and got taken in by the whole glamour of it and we were punished. But this will make them stronger.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 5. Kevin Nolan has outlined the need for Notts County to put the FA Cup elimination at the hands of Swansea City behind them and focus on the upcoming League Two trip to Barnet on Saturday. While the Magpies were in action at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night, Accrington Stanley beat Swindon Town to move up to third in the standings, nudging Notts into fourth. Although saluting his side's great cup run and describing the Swansea replay as a welcome "freebie", Nolan says there are "different things to worry about now". “I can’t see it affecting any confidence in terms of what we are doing in the league,” he told the Nottingham Post. “The cup game was a freebie for us and it has been a great run. It’s been fantastic for the fans and for Alan Hardy and myself. “We can be disappointed yes, but we have different things to worry about now and we are looking forward to another difficult game at the weekend.” Following the Swansea game, Nolan also gave updates on Elliott Hewitt and Matt Tootle and hoped that they would be fit for the trip to the Hive Stadium. “Elliott picked up a bug so we wanted to keep him away and he stayed back at the hotel,” he said. “Toots played in a game behind closed doors and got 70 minutes in. “So we are getting there with all the squad and you can see there is good competition for places. I am hoping that we will have fully fit squad for the weekend.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 6. Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal has praised his players for making Notts County look like "they are not a good team" in their FA Cup fourth-round replay on Tuesday night. The Swans were held to a 1-1 draw in the first game at Meadow Lane but recorded an 8-1 win at the Liberty Stadium to send the Magpies crashing out of the competition. Carvalhal, who has masterminded an upturn in form for a Swansea side that looked set on dropping out of the Premier League, admits he knew they were in for "a challenge". "It is important if it is the best result in the history, but the most important thing is the attitude of the players that made all the difference," Carvalhal told BBC Sport after the game. "I [told] them before the game that we have a challenge. "I am very proud of the players as they accepted the challenge. They made Notts County look like they are not a good team, but they are a good team. But we the way we played made the difference, the attitude was fantastic." 7. Kevin Nolan has declared himself proud of his Notts County players for their impressive FA Cup run despite it coming to a humbling end in their FA Cup fourth-round replay at Swansea City. When the Magpies claimed a 1-1 draw in the first game at Meadow Lane, there was much scope to believe an upset could have been on the cards in Wales. However, Carlos Carvalhal's charges were on top of their game, while the visitors very much had an off day, culminating in an 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Swans. Despite the scoreline, Nolan was quick to pay tribute to his charges and will now focus on getting them ready for Saturday's League Two trip to Barnet. “I am so proud of what they’ve done,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. “They have been absolutely fantastic because they beat Brentford away, they earned a draw against Swansea who are a Premier League side. “They’ve been brilliant this year and now they have got to turn their attentions to the league. That’s our main priority." Speaking about his side's performance in the second game, Nolan added: "I think our time was at Meadow Lane a couple of weeks ago when we had them on the rack. “I felt a lot of things would have to go in our favour, but it just seemed everything they hit went into the corner, the top corner. They showed their Premier League class.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 8. Notts County's evening in the limelight ended up being as one-sided as Apollo Creed's bout with Ivan Drago in Rocky IV and yielded the same outcome as Swansea City ran out 8-1 winners in Tuesday night's FA Cup fourth-round replay at the Liberty Stadium. With the game being televised and Swansea being held to a 1-1 draw in the first game at Meadow Lane, there was real hope that the Magpies would be able to register a very plausible giant killing against a Premier League side who, despite enjoying an upturn in form, remain in a relegation dogfight. However, things did not go to plan as Carlos Carvalhal's charges cavalcaded into County's half from the off and tested Adam Collin through Tammy Abraham and Nathan Dyer before finding the breakthrough on 18 minutes. Luciano Narsingh, who struck the opener in the first encounter, was instrumental once again second time round as Kyle Naughton set him free down the right, reaching the byline before cutting back for Abraham to rifle past Collin at the near post. Before there was even time to properly write down and post the goal information on social media, the Swans doubled their lead, Abraham turning provider with a perfectly weighted through ball which found Dyer, who in turn sidefooted home. Goal number three came on the half-hour mark as Narsingh, once again deep inside the Notts half, cut the ball back for Dyer to sweep a first-time shot from just outside the area across Collin and into the far corner. For a couple of minutes, hope was restored among the Black and White Army when Noor Husin, who struck a wondergoal against Crewe at the weekend, was on hand to make the most of a failed Swansea clearance to curl a superb effort from 20 yards out beyond Kristoffer Nordfeldt and just inside the post. That hope was snuffed out just before the break, however, as Narsingh ran on to a diagonal pass from Kyle Bartley to break free on the right once again, before yet another weighted cutback found Abraham, who slotted past Collin for a 4-1 half-time lead. There was to be little in the way of damage limitation, however, as Swansea - who, it has to be said, are a completely different beast in recent weeks from the meek outfit of before, given they've beaten Arsenal and Liverpool under Carvalhal's watch - continued to slice through the County defence like a hot knife through butter. Save from Jon Stead's effort early in the second half, which Nordfeldt kept out, it was largely one-way traffic and four more goals would be scored by the Swans, through Naughton, who punished Collin's poor punched clearance; Wayne Routledge, who placed a low 18-yard shot into the corner; Tom Carroll, who rifled a superb effort into the top corner from range; and Daniel James dispatched number eight. 9. Swansea City boss Carlos Carvalhal has stressed that, whilst his focus is on Premier League survival, he will still field a strong team against Notts County in their FA Cup fourth-round replay. The Magpies travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on the Swans tonight, who have enjoyed an upturn of form in the league in recent weeks. Swansea had just 13 points to their name from 20 games when the Portuguese was named as Paul Clement’s successor; they have taken 11 from six under his stewardship. However, they were unable to see off Notts at Meadow Lane in the first game, Jon Stead salvaging a 1-1 draw after Luciano Narsingh had put the top-flighters a goal up at the break. With a double injury blow coming in the form of Leroy Fer and Wilfried Bony sidelined until the end of the season, the former Sheffield Wednesday manager insisted he will not take any risks by using players with knocks. “We will try to win this game,” Carvalhal told the official Swans site. “We will not take any risks with any players who have some small pains or are risking injuries. “But we will play a strong team. As I said before Wolves (in round three) and before the first game against Notts County, our main competition is the Premier League. “If you gave me the choice of staying up or winning the cup, of course I would choose staying up. “But we are happy to play these cup games. We understand the prestige of this competition. We have to respect that and we also must respect Notts County. “It will not be an easy game, but we will fight to get to the next round.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 10. Notts County coach Mark Crossley has revealed how Cardiff City have allowed the Magpies to use their training facilities ahead of tonight's FA Cup fourth-round meeting with Swansea City. The first game finished 1-1 at Meadow Lane which meant a replay at the Liberty Stadium for a place in the fifth round and a trip to Sheffield Wednesday. Cardiff are now hoping to see their bitter South Welsh rivals beaten at the second attempt and Crossley says the Bluebirds are paying back a favour. “Our chairman owns Ilkeston Town and Cardiff used their ground before their FA Cup tie at Mansfield," Crossley told reporters. “They were grateful and returned the favour for us this time. It was instant ‘yes’ from them - not a problem. “We’ve got three days down there and that’s the right way to prepare. We’ll be using some excellent training facilities once we get down there. “Everything between then and now is all about looking at Swansea’s strengths and weaknesses. “We’ll be able to do that at a hotel. If it gives you that extra one per cent chance of getting a result then so be it.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 11. Notts County travel to the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night for an FA Cup fourth-round replay against Swansea City with a fifth-round trip to Sheffield Wednesday up for grabs. How will the Magpies fare against the Swans? Can Kevin Nolan's charges build on their 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane or will Swansea's Premier League quality show? Here is Pride of Nottingham's pre-match preview. What happened in the first game Notts began brightly against the top-flight strugglers but their opponents soon stepped up a gear and had the hosts under the cosh before finding the net on the stroke of half time through Luciano Narsingh. The Magpies were much improved in the second half, however, as Jorge Grant spurned three gilt-edged chances in quick succession. Eventually, County's pressure was rewarded as veteran striker Jon Stead turned home on the hour to draw the Magpies level and ultimately clinch a replay at the Liberty Stadium. Current form The Swans have improved drastically in recent weeks under Carlos Carvalhal, with three wins and two draws from their last six Premier League games, including wins over Liverpool and Arsenal. Notts endured a tricky January form-wise in League Two but head into this game on the back of a 4-1 win over Crewe Alexandra, with a return to 4-4-2 reaping dividends for the Magpies. Stats Swansea will be hosting Notts for the first time since a League Two clash in December 2004, with cult hero Lee Trundle netting a hat-trick in a 4-0 win for the hosts. The Swans have lost three of their last five FA Cup replays in which they have been the higher ranked side, although they did beat Wolves in the last round, 2-1 in a third-round replay. Notts County have only progressed from one of their last five FA Cup replays, last winning in a replay against Premier League opposition in February 2010, 2-0 v Wigan. Swansea have won three games in a row at the Liberty Stadium in all competitions for the first time since their final three Premier League home games of 2016-17 - they last won four in a row at home in May 2016. Team news Striker Wilfried Bony and midfielder Leroy Fer have been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up long-term injuries. On-loan midfielder Renato Sanches is also out for a month with a hamstring injury. Leon Britton and Angel Rangel are also unavailable for Tuesday night's clash, while Andre Ayew and Andy King are cup-tied. Notts have no new injury concerns ahead of the fourth-round replay, although goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons remains suspended. Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Ben Hall is ineligible and fellow deadline day loan signing Mason Bennett is cup-tied, having played for Derby County. 12. How amazing would it be to see Notts make yet another round in the FA Cup? I think it would be incredible, and tomorrow night Kevin Nolan’s side will head into a game against Swansea City whereby we could progress to the 5th round. This season has been very surreal, it’s almost at the complete end of last year’s spectrum and I believe the hard work on the field is paying off dividends. It’s a tough ask from our squad playing in the fourth tier of English football to go to a Premier League side and play in such a fashion that could snatch a win. However, I feel we are very much in contention to achieve such a result and even if we don’t, it’s just nice to see the clubs name up there in the headlights. Our home tie against Swansea provided that we could match them and at times play well enough to deservedly do so. The second half at Meadow Lane was a joy to watch and I would hope that we could encourage another similar display, even if we are away from home. In the recent league game against Crewe, we rebounded very well to the opening shock of conceding early, and the players showcased a real belief in determination in getting a positive result in front of 17,000 spectators. I feel we need to approach the game forgetting about whom our opposition are, or how many divisions are between them and us. Approaching the game with the mindset that we won’t be outplayed, nor will we surrender, yet to make a solid statement and push to see just how much further we can go. There’s no reason why we can’t just go and express the type of football we want to play or achieve something which most may feel is impossible – I’ve always said that Swansea is a team I fancy our chances against. Kevin Nolan has also recently expressed his feelings towards the tie, stating that he's "really looking forward to it". "I know Swansea had another good result at the weekend so it will be a tough one, but we go there full of confidence." he added in a recent press release. Unfortunately, Swansea have also lost two key players in Wilfried Bony and Leroy Fer, who have been sidelined for the rest of the season due to serious injuries. The Premier League will also be their main focus and, despite this, I feel Carlos Carvalhal will field a side which he believes is still strong but again it may not risk a few of their other bigger named players. Regardless of who plays, I would hope we go there believing that we can continue our FA Cup journey and, I would hope there’s a high level of belief within the Notts camp. It really would be incredible to see us progress to the fifth round and take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. As supporters we have had a very turbulent time over the last 3 to 4 years and it’s fantastic to now see just how well Notts are doing. Alan Hardy has restored the faith of many Notts fans and Kevin Nolan has introduced a winning way to Notts – something which no fan isn’t thankful for. Now let’s go to the Liberty Stadium and showcase further that amazing turnarounds can happen if you fully set your mind on it! 13. Kevin Nolan has expressed his delight with Notts County's big 4-1 win over Crewe Alexandra in terms of carrying the momentum forward into Tuesday night's FA Cup fourth-round replay at Swansea City. The Magpies drew 1-1 with the Swans in the first game to secure a replay at the Liberty Stadium, with a fifth-round meeting at Sheffield Wednesday up for grabs. County's League Two form in January was wobbly but the team got back to winning ways against the Railwaymen in front of a packed Meadow Lane on Saturday. The result kept the club in the division's automatic promotion places and, on the back of the win, Nolan is eager for the team to get back out onto the pitch promptly. “I am really looking forward to it,” he told the Nottingham Post. "When you win games you just want to be back out on the pitch. “There’s a lot of work to be done from now until Tuesday, but we will enjoy this result for a bit. “I know Swansea had another good result at the weekend so it will be a tough one, but we go there full of confidence.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 14. Alan Hardy has expressed his disappointment with drawing Sheffield Wednesday away in the fifth round of the FA Cup but believes that Notts County could beat the Owls should they get past Swansea City. The Magpies remained in the hat for Monday's last-16 draw after holding the Premier League Swans to a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane for a replay at the Liberty Stadium. The winner of the tie will go on to face Wednesday at Hillsborough and, despite hoping for an away tie against a Premier League giant, Hardy thinks the Yorkshire side could be a similar proposition to third-round opponents Brentford. “We were hoping this was going to be the big one after Brentford and Swansea. We were hoping this one would be Man United or Spurs away,” Hardy told the Nottingham Post. “It’s not to be but it gives us a great opportunity to progress through the rounds if we can beat Swansea. “We have got a chance to do that. We’ve shown we aren’t scared of them. I know the boys are up for the replay. “Wednesday are an iconic club in their own right. It’s one of the great grounds in the country. “It would be a great atmosphere. They’re well below Brentford in the Championship and we won there. “There’s no reason we couldn’t do that again. The lads would love to go there. “Sheffield is one of those great tribal football cities like Newcastle or Manchester.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 15. Swansea City boss Carlos Carvalhal has praised Notts County for stepping up their game in Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round encounter at Meadow Lane, which enabled them to come away with a 1-1 draw. The Magpies began brightly but their opponents soon stepped up a gear and had the hosts under the coash before finding the net on the stroke of half time through Luciano Narsingh. Kevin Nolan's charges were much improved in the second half, however, as Jorge Grant spurned three gilt-edged chances in quick succession. Eventually, County's pressure was rewarded as veteran striker Jon Stead turned home on the hour to draw the Magpies level and ultimately clinch a replay at the Liberty Stadium. "After the first ten to 15 minutes we started to control the game," Carvalhal told reporters. We created chances and took the lead against a side that defended very well and in numbers. We were prepared for that and we were in total control. "In the second half we must give credit to Notts County. They played more long balls and were more physical. They scored and they deserved it during that period. "After that, it was just Swansea on the pitch moving the ball. They were compact but we created two clear chances to finish the game. The negative was not winning the game, but there are lots of positives about this game. We are still fighting in this competition. We have another chance to get to the next stage of the competition." 16. Jon Stead kept up his record of scoring in every round of the FA Cup as his equaliser earned Notts County a deserved replay in a 1-1 draw with Swansea City in the fourth round. Luciano Narsingh's strike on the stroke of half-time put the Premier League's bottom club ahead at Meadow Lane but the Magpies went up a gear after the restart, with Jorge Grant coming close on three occasions in quick succession. Stead, who famously put in a superb performance for Bradford City in their fourth-round upset of Chelsea several years ago, then fired home on the hour mark to guarantee a place in the hat for round five and a replay at the Liberty Stadium next month. Pride of Nottingham has compiled some of the key post-match reaction from Notts boss Kevin Nolan, the players, and the fans. Kevin Nolan "I'm absolutely delighted and immensely proud. We got we deserved and made the better chances throughout the game. "But against a Premier League team they only need half a chance and it's in the back of the net and that showed today. "We were really good in the first half but all it took was one slip and we were 1-0 down. "The reaction after the break was fantastic and we had some excellent opportunities both before and after our goal." "The way the players have performed today is a testament to what they are all about." Jon Stead "We matched them and we've got to be immensely proud of ourselves. "We were a bit cagey in the first half but at the start of the second half we really showed what we are capable of and pushed them all the way. "You know they are going to have large amounts of possession and keep the ball well so it's about getting in the right areas and limiting their space. "We had to work hard for it but we gave as good as we got and created some decent chances. "If we had won the game I don't think you could have argued too much about it but, on reflection, a draw is probably a fair result." Shola Ameobi "We got our just rewards for a really tough, battling performance. We're in the draw for the fifth round, and in the FA Cup magical things can happen. "We know it'll be a tough order at Swansea, but the team spirit in that dressing room right now is fantastic. We'll go there and give it all we've got." Players on social media The Black and White Army Who R Ya? You Pies!: That was class , great atmosphere , great occasion , terrific result, in the draw , get the replay on TV , well done Notts great combative performance had our moments as well , so proud COYP Chris: No criticism of either us or Swansea, I felt both teams did very well. Second half again for Notts was a delight to watch and, although I think it shown how the formation being 4-4-2 suites us best. I do feel we gave Swansea a good fight and wholeheartedly deserved the draw. Very impressed with our fans and the fact the performance was motivated. Liampie: I thought we could count ourselves lucky that swansea seemed poor on goal in the first half. we had a few okay chances but never really tested their keeper, i do think we defended well throughout the game. good to get level with them after the lapse in concentration. Jay Dalton: notts gave 100% shola held the Ball well Collin made some crucial saves and when stead got the leveller the fans errupted l with sheer jubilation brilliant kop atmosphere Trevor Robinson: Great support from the kop today. I'm in Pavis stand and you lot sounded fantastic. Pat yourselves on the back. Jimmy Gee: Soft goal just before halftime spoiled good work. Deserved equaliser, Notts had more chances to win it. 17. Notts County have earned a place in the hat for the fifth round of the FA Cup after holding Premier League side Swansea City to a 1-1 draw in Saturday's fourth-round match at Meadow Lane. Stead, who famously put in a superb performance for Bradford City in their fourth-round upset of Chelsea several years ago, then fired home on the hour mark to guarantee a place in the hat for round five and a replay at the Liberty Stadium next month. How did the game pan out? Pride of Nottingham's Chris takes a look with this weekend's Tactical Talk. Was the result fair? Both Notts and Swansea really went head-to-head yesterday. Swansea obviously looked full of energy and naturally looked very creative, as any Premier League team should. Notts struggled to match them at times in the first half – however over the course of the 90 minutes, the magpies’ actually improved and grew in confidence. A draw is very fair, some fans feel we should have won but honestly both teams could have done this. How did Notts play? First half we naturally did a lot of chasing, yet there wasn’t much wrong in terms of heart or performance. Notts just naturally struggled at times due to Swansea making it different through their play. One note for me is the lack of pressing at times and I feel defensively we should have shaken off the nerves sooner. In the second half, Notts really took the game to the Swans and the game became very open as a result. There was a lot of character, passion and desire in this game from a Notts perspective and reverting back to 4-4-2 really showed why we had done well in previous games before the formation switch. How did Swansea play? They played well, credit where credit is due. However, going 1-0 up there was a lot of time-wasting – in fact, I recall times even before they scored but this is quite normal in football. Swansea looked creative, very direct and they played neat overlays, which put Notts often on the back foot. The Swans were a joy to watch at times, and I feel if their strike-force had played better – the outcome might have been vastly different but this doesn’t take anything away from their performance as they did well. Did our tactics work out? Reverting to 4-4-2 must have taken some swallowing of Nolan’s pride, it was clear that 4-5-1 isn’t a formation which would work for Notts – could you imagine how many limited chances we would have had against Swansea if we hadn’t have reverted? I felt the line-up was pretty spot on, it was nice to see Terry Hawkridge starting and I felt we had a lot of width about our play – something that has been lacking even before we went to five midfielders in previous League Two games. It was clear that Kevin Nolan had told the players to go out and enjoy themselves. Notts played organised but almost with a certain level of freedom. Attacks were carefully played out, although at times passes did stray or certainly became rushed – this for me was down to nerves and, I feel the tactics were spot on. How did the referee perform? There were periods of the game that I felt he liked breaking the action up, solely just to sound his whistle but overall by the end of the game I actually felt he did alright. Second half he noticeably improved, and as a result allowed the game to flow better. It was nice to see him standing his ground when players attempted to sway his decisions, something which most recent officials haven’t done well but this referee did okay. No real complaints as such from me. Who do we play next? Focusing on the FA Cup here, it’s obvious that the fourth round replay will be against Swansea – yet it will be interesting to see who we might possibly get in the 5th round, provided we make it that far. I actually feel we stand a greater chance of upsetting them away from home. How should we play them? I sent out a tweet before the game against Swansea City echoing my thoughts on how Notts should be balanced and, defensively aware. I felt breaking out on the counter would serve us well, especially if we didn’t commit too many players forward. This would ring true playing them in our 4th round replay, it’s important that we don’t get a rush of blood and go all attacking on them. We need to build carefully, pressing them into wider positions as a way to open the game up. Jorge Grant did really well with taking a lot of the play forward, with the likes of Elliot Hewitt running himself into the ground. These will be things we must repeat when fancy Swansea next. I would like to see our two strikers stay further up the field, however if we can find a way to get the best out of Liam Noble – I feel his energy being found could give us two players to unlock any opening which may present themselves. It’s important we go and, in the process ask questions – ensuring that Swansea City’s defence doesn’t have it easy. If we pressure them in the right way, I feel a cup shock could very well be on the cards – as winning a team at their home ground often happens against the big boys as it lifts the opposition players. Swansea City fan views (from The Fans Network) Londonlisa2001: I thought we were absolutely woeful. We were a little better in the first half than the second, but we didn't give a crap. Not giving a crap and playing at half speed when you saunter out a 2 goal victory is one thing, doing it and not being able to beat a team that together quite possibly gets paid less than Bony is on is a disgrace. I didn't see it as a chance to walk around and build patterns, I saw it as a chance to give it our all (at least until safe), and score some goals in an attempt to create some confidence and put some zip and spark into our lacklustre forward line. Cockneyswan: After watching that abject performance, I think Carlos message must have been "ok if you can win it without too much effort do it, however if we lose don’t worry, we got bigger fish to fry." Unfortunately Notts co delighted with another pay day. Jackrabbit: I only saw the second half but it was obvious that County wanted it more. I sincerely hope Bony is unfit and lacking match practice because he was dreadful - slow, ponderous, clumsy and indolent. Both he and Abraham were AWOL in the goal area. A centre forward needs to be pressurising the goalkeeper, be on hand for crosses in front of the goalkeeper and be available to tuck away rebounds - neither of them were ever there when they needed to be. Abraham was our only touch of class at the start of the season. What has happened to him? Ki made mistakes but he looked classy - he passed the ball well and tried to slide balls inside the fullback for Narsingh to run on to. He doesn't deserve the special bile he gets on here. At least he looks like a footballer. Ayew must have been as underwhelmed as we were by the Swans performance because when he came on he decided he would beat County on his own. All in all Swans looked like a team that were saving themselves for a big game on Tuesday night. I thought County were terrific. 20. Kevin Nolan has lauded Notts County's "magnificent" performance in their 1-1 draw with Swansea City in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Magpies began brightly at Meadow Lane on Saturday but their opponents soon stepped up a gear and found the net on the stroke of half time through Luciano Narsingh. Notts were much better in the second half as Jorge Grant spurned several chances before veteran striker Jon Stead turned home on the hour to clinch a replay at the Liberty Stadium. "I'm absolutely delighted," Nolan told BBC Sport. "I thought the boys were fantastic, and we were unfortunate not to go in the break level, but the reaction in the second half was brilliant. "The lads' work-rate was brilliant, and the togetherness, and the communication - we were magnificent. "I think we showed them a bit too much respect in the first half, but we rattled them early doors in the second half, which was magnificent. And we got the goal in the second half, but we couldn't quite keep it going. "It's [Stead's] vision in and around the box that does so much for us, and it's his nous that allows him to get in the right areas to score goals, let's hope he continues doing it for us." 21. Notts County's FA Cup adventure is still alive as the Magpies held Premier League side Swansea City to a 1-1 draw in Saturday's fourth-round encounter at Meadow Lane. The hosts began brightly as Jorge Grant and Jon Stead combined to get the ball into the box and Elliott Hewitt came within a whisker of turning home at the far post. Swansea took a while to get into gear, with Mike van der Hoorn and Tammy Abraham failing to trouble Adam Collin, whose return to fitness coincided nicely following Ross Fitzsimons's suspension. Around the half-hour mark the visitors began to provide more of a threat as Van der Hoorn and Wilfried Bony both mustered more significant chances. Notts, however, resisted and looked like going back in the dressing rooms all square but on the stroke of half time Carlos Carvalhal's charges took the lead. The Magpies' defence was cut open as Ki Sung-yeung, on for the injured Renato Sanches, rolled the ball into the path of the overlapping Luciano Narsingh down the right side of the penalty area. The Dutch forward made no mistake, beating Collin with a low shot into the far corner of the net to edge the swans ahead just at the right time. Notts were much improved after the restart, however, and Jorge Grant had three chances to equalise as he went close with a free kick, then rifling over the bar, then nodding a header just wide. Grant made amends by turning provided as a rejuvenated County side launched another attack in the opposition third, his low ball across the face of goal turned home at the far post by Jon Stead. Swansea, desperate not to add another fixture to their schedule given their Premier League strugglers, pushed forward in a bid to restore their lead. Ki's dangerous 80th-minute strike was parried down low by Collin while Bony sent a header just wide of goal as Kevin Nolan's side held firm en route to a famous draw and a replay at the Liberty Stadium. 22. Alan Hardy has expressed his hopes of seeing Notts County repeat the heroics against Brentford in knocking Swansea City out of the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage. The Magpies have done superbly in the competition, seeing off two higher-league teams in the Bees and Bristol Rovers, plus a banana skin in non-league Oxford City, to find themselves up against the Premier League side. Hardy has described the third-round win over Brentford as the greatest day of his reign as chairman so far and is hopeful to become "the centre of the headline-writers’ attentions across the world". "When I bought the club just over a year ago, never did I envisage Notts County playing a Premier League team in the FA Cup fourth round at Meadow Lane," Hardy wrote in his weekly Nottingham Post column. "But it has now become a reality and we are hoping that, come 5pm, we will have become the centre of the headline-writers’ attentions across the world. "I accept that nobody will give us a chance of winning, but earlier this month there were plenty who dismissed our hopes of getting a result at Championship side Brentford. "In the end we produced a quite magnificent performance to win 1-0, in which determination was matched with inspiration as Jon Stead’s wonderful goal sealed a memorable victory. "I said afterwards that it was the greatest day of my reign as chairman so far. I was so overcome with emotion I felt as if I couldn’t breathe. "Should we do the unthinkable against a Premier League team blessed with so much talent, I’m sure it will eclipse that fabulous afternoon we experienced in West London. "I know the players are absolutely buzzing with excitement because games like this do not come around very often. "Equally, the fans I have spoken to cannot wait for kick-off because they know our home record is extremely impressive regardless of the last couple of results. "Like our manager, Kevin Nolan, said in the build-up, he fancies us against any side at Meadow Lane so why can’t we beat Swansea? "We hope to have more than 10,000 fans inside the ground, generating an excellent atmosphere to give the players further inspiration. "And with our home record, combined with determination, quality, and incredible backing from the stands, we would give ourselves a fantastic chance of causing a real upset." 23. Much like in politics, a week - or to be precise in this case, two - is a long time in football. When Notts County learned of their FA Cup fourth-round opponents, quite a lot of fans would have been happier to be up against Swansea City than against Wolverhampton Wanderers. After all, one is a team top of the Championship with momentum, players way too good for the division and shedloads of cash, while the other is a down-and-out team with morale the same as their position in the Premier League table - ie rock bottom - and couldn't score in a brothel. Notts, meanwhile, had enjoyed a decent enough festive period, began the year with victory over Port Vale to entrench their place in the top three of League Two, and had put in a superb performance to beat Championship Brentford on their own turn in the FA Cup third round. Then, over the following two weeks since the fourth-round draw, Swansea City have drawn against Newcastle and beaten Liverpool in the league, as well as overcoming Wolves in the cup, while Notts have drawn one and lost two in the league to put their automatic promotion hopes in jeopardy. Another transformation is that of Ross Fitzsimons. When he came along at the FA Cup fourth-round draw event at Meadow Lane, he could do no wrong. After Adam Collin suffered his long-term injury, a lot of people were worried about just how good the back-up keepers at Notts were. Fitzsimons was drafted in, a big ask for a 23-year-old who had virtually no experience of senior league football, but over the coming months put in impressive performance after impressive performance to leave fans wondering whether Collin was going to simply reclaim his first-team place. And then, came the moment when he went from "hero" to "zero" in the eyes of a lot of fans - Crawley Town, Meadow Lane, Tuesday 22 January 2018. Notts were level with their opponents in injury time but had just been reduced to 10 men and were hanging on, but they had possession as Fitzsimons claimed the ball from a corner and set himself up to lump it upfield while the outfield players made their respective ways forward up the pitch. And then came the glitch in the matrix - Fitzsimons, still in possession of the ball, kicked out at Mark Connolly, who then made the most ridiculous fall since the ref that was nudged by Paolo di Canio all those years ago, and by the rules of the game, red card and penalty. I admit I described the ending to the game as "shambolic", and it certainly was. You can understand to a degree how a footballer can get so riled up that they lash out at another, and you have to wonder whether Connolly had said something to Fitzsimons prior that made him lash out. But at the same time, as football mistakes go, it's pretty big - I'd compare it to an own goal scored by a player who decided to pull off some inexplicable stunt and, predictably, it backfires - Lee Dixon's own goal in Arsenal v Coventry is a prime example of it. Not deliberate, but so daft that it feels like it may as well have been. Predictably, heads were lost among the Black and White Army, many of whom wanted to see Fitzy dropped from the first team entirely or sacked outright for the incident. It all felt like a pitchfork-wielding mob. Yes, it was a bad mistake. Yes, it cost Notts a point and deprived them of yet another goalkeeper at a time when things are wobbly and ahead of a crucial cup tie against PL opposition. But Fitzsimons will know this. He will be absolutely mortified to have succumbed to his red mist and his confidence will undoubtedly have taken a hit, especially how he will now be powerless in the stands watching his team in action when they need him the most. And he will learn from it. Kevin Nolan has had his fair share of brain farts over the years as a player and, even though he probably gave Fitzsimons a rollocking behind closed doors, he's come out in support of his player and will be good guidance to helping him overcome this blip. In the meantime, there's a chance Collin could return to contention and, if not, Branislav Pindroch will be given his own chance to try and make the number 1 spot his own. So in conclusion, the best thing to do is to keep faith in Nolan and in the club, and I'm sure when Fitzsimons returns from his ban, he will be a much better, wiser player. 24. Head to head Notts County have met Swansea City/Town 70 times over the years - the Magpies have 24 wins, the Swans have 30 wins, and 16 games have been drawn. The first meeting came on 23 October 1926 in Division Two, Swansea Town winning 3-1 at Meadow Lane. The last time both sides met was in League Two on 5 March 2005, a 1-0 win for the Magpies thanks to Mark Stallard's 50th-minute goal. The last meeting between these two sides in the FA Cup came in January 1934, with the Swans winning 1-0 at home. Stats Notts County have reached the fifth round on just one occasion this century, beating Wigan Athletic 2-0 in a fourth-round replay in 2009-10. The last time Swansea reached the fourth round was in 2014-15, losing to Championship side Blackburn 3-1 at Ewood Park. In fact, the Swans have been eliminated from two of their last three ties against lower league opponents. After being eliminated in eight successive FA Cup ties against top-flight opposition, the Magpies have progressed in two of the last four - beating Wigan in 2010 and Sunderland in 2011. Swansea City have won just eight competitive games all season so far - three of which have come against lower-league opposition in domestic cup competitions. History Swansea City began life in 1912 as Swansea Town Athletic Football Club. Following the lead of many other South Wales sides, the club joined the Second Division of the Southern League for the following season. J. W. Thorpe was the club's first chairman. A site owned by Swansea Gaslight Co., called Vetch Field due to the vegetables that grew there, was rented to be the club's ground. The club's first professional match was a 1–1 draw at the Vetch Field against Cardiff City on 7 September 1912. During that first season the Welsh Cup was won for the first time. The Swans beat reigning English champions Blackburn Rovers 1–0 in the first round of the 1914–15 FA Cup, Swansea's goal coming from Ben Beynon. Following the First World War the Southern League dropped its Second Division, and with many clubs dropping out due to financial difficulties, the Swans were placed in the First Division. After four seasons in the Southern League, Swansea became founder members of the new Third Division of The Football League in 1920 and then Division Three (South) the following season. The club changed their name in 1969, when they adopted the name Swansea City to reflect Swansea's new status as a city. Swansea moved to the new Liberty Stadium during the summer of 2005. The first competitive game was a 1–0 victory against Tranmere Rovers in August 2005. Team news Notts County goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons and defender Matty Virtue are both banned for Notts County after being sent off against Crawley Town. Matt Tootle has missed the last two games through illness and remains out for Saturday's FA Cup encounter with the Swans. Swansea, meanwhile, have no injury concerns - striker Tammy Abraham, defender Angel Rangel and Bayern Munich loanee Renato Sanches have all trained and could feature at Meadow Lane. 25. Kevin Nolan has given his Notts County players one simple message ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round meeting with Swansea City - "enjoy it". The Magpies have seen off Bristol Rovers, Oxford City and Brentford to reach round four, where they have been drawn with the Premier League strugglers. Although Swansea have picked up form in recent weeks, including a shock win over Liverpool, Nolan is eager for the players to just make the most of the occasion. “Enjoy it,” Nolan said at his press conference, as quoted by the Nottingham Post. “When I was playing, and because the priority was the league, I was always left out of the squad. “But these are the games that, when I look back, I would have loved to played in. “These games don’t often come along. It’s once a year and it’s how far you can get in the competition. “I want my lads to enjoy it from now until 5pm on Saturday. And whether we win, or lose, I know they will have given me everything to make sure they get into the next round.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans.
