Is this a good move by Carlisle United?

I wish Mark Hughes luck with his latest appointment as Carlisle Head Coach..

If Mark can save them from relegation it would be a a big achievement. Carlisle are bottom of league 2 & 5 points from safety.

His last appointment at Bradford was the first time that Mark had Managed outside the PL. He lasted about 20 months before being sacked with Bradford in 18th place.

It was felt by the Bradford City players that Hughes was trying to shoehorn PL tactics into the League Two side, & this ultimately contributed to the lack of success in his second season.

My take. I think it's a brave appointment by Carlisle, but I think they are taking a gamble appointing him. He has to work with another Manager's team & get them winning very quickly. It will be difficult.

Does anyone else feel like Carlisle United is an episode of Scooby Doo?

I didn't think it could get any stranger than the season we ended up being relegated, having Kevin Nolan, Harry "Useless" Kewell and then Neil Ardley. It seems Carlisle are tempting fate, whilst I would be impressed with the appointment of Mark Hughes - his stock as a manager is falling increasingly lower with each appointment. I thought Mark Hughes did very well in his Premier League days; he had a remarkable time at Blackburn, I felt.

Mark Hughes is risking becoming a football meme for when a manager stays in the game beyond their competence in adapting to how things are changing.

He's done nothing noteworthy to retain his position as a manager since he managed Queen's Park Rangers, and whilst I wish him well. I do like Carlisle; I think they have great fans. There's no denying they are in chaos at the moment, and they seem to think a magic wand exists. His time at Bradford City was uneventful; they had a decent squad that should have done much better, with similar money worries. Which I can see Carlisle getting into with the ways they are spending money to avoid relegation in a non-practical way.

I really hope they avoid the drop. I would hope I am wrong, but I can see Mark Hughes failing in this instance because his squad has no cohesion currently.

All the signings in the January transfer window seem to displace what is actually their biggest issue.

They have a mismatched squad, with deeper issues than scoring goals or defending. I could put a random group of Sunday league players into a more cohesive squad. This isn't Hughes' fault mind, he's just come in at the wrong time.

Mark Hughes will demand better, but that doesn't always result in better form. I don't think his appointment is destined to fail, but I don't see how he will be able to change their fortunes either. If Carlisle United goes down, it won't have much to do with their management this season but all the goings-on behind the scenes, and perhaps the wrong people are being sacked.

i only know him as a former welsh international and he played for man utd, except he was a manager after but his success is before my time mostly. i dont know if hes a good or bad manager but going from the premier league to league two would suggest his career is on the decline. good luck to him at carlisle.

Giving a manager the whole January window and then sacking him anyway is tragic. It's hardy-esque.
