The lost hills and walkways of Nottingham city centre

Many of these are sorely missed

One of my first memories of my lifetime was the climb up the stairs to Weekday Cross, from the old Broad Marsh bus station

@Piethagoram, when did the change occur? The first picture rings a bell, and I have a vague memory of going to see @super_ram at work.

I might have my bearings mistaken, though.

Does anyone remember Broadmarsh having an upstairs above where Argos used to be, and the BHS? Nobody seems to remember this, but again, I have a memory of being with my grandparents where they went to buy a Game Boy game for me. I have a vivid recollection of it, yet it's said that only one end featured an upstairs. I could have sworn it did.

I know this part, and it looks vastly different now.

My memories began with the old Broad Marsh bus station with cinders, the railway viaduct and the Barton's wooden hut advertising seaside / holiday destinations. The concrete bus shelters too. I think there was cut through to Listergate

The Barton buses to Ruddington looked far more luxurious that the Corporation buses. The South Notts and West Bridgford buses, some had seats right across the top deck , with the gangway on the drivers side.

Blimey these photos bring back memories of when I first started work at Simon,May and co on Weekday cross over 60 years ago. I remember on my first day being given directions to a newsagents on Broad marsh bus station via Drury Hill.I didn't know Nottingham very well and it was a bit of an adventure.I can't remember why I was sent to the newsagent but I have a vivid memory of walking down the steps of Drury hill ,which curved to the right as you descended. It would have been just after 9am and the morning rush had almost passed so was almost deserted and gave a feeling of isolation with it being narrow and not being able to see far in front or behind,The curve seemed to last forever and I was glad to reach the openness of the bus station.

@super_ram, am I right about my memory of Mum then? The moment I saw the image, I remembered a few memories of when I was younger and we would come to see you whilst at work.

I remember always being told not to go too far ahead.

i think some of the really old pictures looks very haunting and a lot of those shown i would not feel comfortable walking near. its interesting to see the memories shared, tho i dont have any to add but its still a good topic that is different.

thanks for sharing @Piethagoram.

@Chris I think you are referring to to the Co-op departmental store which had a furniture section upstairs. You were always being told not to run to far ahead.
