It's a very surprising & underwhelming transfer for Didzy in his twilight years as a player. I can understand why he was attracted to Barnsley, Didzy knows the Barnsley Boss Conor Hourihane very well so that friendship must have been a big factor with Didzy's decision to join them.

At least Didzy will be playing in League 1 so it's a blessing that he didn't join a league 2 club, because it would have been tough watching him playing against Notts.

I would have loved Didzy to have ended his playing career with Notts by signing for another year, but it wasn't to be. I wish him luck at his new club, & hope he can help Barnsley achieve success.

Him going back to L1 does cushion the blow of the departure

It makes you think he rejoined Notts confident that he'd be involved in a promotion to L1, we were tipped heavily after all.

It became a slog for him at Notts, over-reliance on him by the end and still coming out on the losing side too often. The whole SM season, the Saunders situation, Alves covering must have had him scratching his head at times and wanting to taste something more professional before he hangs up his boots. Oh, and the extra money of course :)

That's just pure speculation. @theAnticlough

It's well known that Didzy wanted to stay, but unfortunately, Didzy & Notts couldn't agree on the terms of a new contract.

Barnsley feels like a bit of an odd choice when you think about the other clubs nearby he could’ve joined. It’s not the most obvious move, considering he had options closer to Nottingham. That said, they do look strong and could be one of the sides pushing for promotion. Still, I’m surprised Derby County didn’t make an effort to bring him back. It seemed like a chance they might’ve taken.

i had a feeling he would want to go to a league one team, but i am surprised a team like barnsley ended up being his destination. i thought he would choose a team a little more local and i think part of me was worried it might be mansfield since he has played for every other club in the east midlands.
