Showing off? Flexing of Money Online

I’m not sure how much the PON community follows social influencers or even watches YouTube. One thing I’m growing tired of is seeing them show off how much money they’ve got.

I’m not talking about the obvious kind of flexing where it’s loud and in your face. I mean the more subtle waste of money, like spending on videos or paying for social media verification just to get more followers and make posts bragging about doing it.

I just came across a video by Nottingham-based YouTuber MrWhoseTheBoss called β€œI bought every iPad EVER!” He didn’t stick with upgrading the same device, he bought every model brand new, and then filmed himself unboxing them and chatting about their changes over the years.

I can’t see that as entertaining. It just looks like he’s showing off that he’s got cash to throw away.

The trend among creators like Austin Evans, MrWhosetheBoss, Marques Brownlee, and Unboxing Therapy seems to revolve around flaunting their wealth rather than producing valuable content that highlights the best technology available.

Why do people watch garbage like this?

I don't waste my time watching videos put out to obtain the most views or just simply to waste money. I prefer channels that educate and inform you, so many of the biggest YouTubers just forget about what the common person would enjoy, and it's all to be popular among the younger audience who believe that money grows on trees.

It’s the sort of content you put on when you’re bored, just to have something playing while you do other things. It doesn’t really grab you.

I agree, it looks a bit daft when they’re throwing money around for no reason, especially with the cost of living being so high. There are plenty of people who’d love to have that kind of cash just to afford basic things like food.

I do enjoy some of the stuff they put out, but I also think it’s a bit shameful how they act like it’s normal to waste money just because they’ve got it lying around. It shows a real lack of awareness.

Don't know about anyone else. But I Bet he's a Forest Fan. Could be wrong of course, never heard of him till today. It's just a feeling I get, you know that I Bet he's a Forest Fan kinda feeling.

They’ve got a set amount of money to spend, but instead of coming up with smart or useful ideas, they waste it on pointless things. It shows a real lack of imagination. There are some great YouTube channels out there, like JayzTwoCents. He builds PCs and shares proper advice on tech, which can actually help people understand what they’re doing. The younger generation does seem quite focused on money. It’s as if value is judged more by how much something costs than by how useful or meaningful it is.
