  • I am almost 80% excited, with the rest being a nervous feeling. It's likely this will repeatedly change before I set off to Newport, but it's good to be back. Martin Paterson might not have a fully fi

For me the time period in which we were waiting for the new head coach to be announced really seemed to drag, but the pre-season has flown by and I can't believe the new season is already kicking off

I’m looking forward to seeing how MP’s Notts County play, let’s hope we get off to a flying start. It’s on Sky Sports+ I believe so I’ll probably watch with a nice beer.

I’m liking what I see so far, with a bit of luck we could be at least 2-0 up, as usual Notts have had lots of possession Newport have hardly threatened. Barry Cotter is looking like a threat.Grant hit the crossbar early on and Cotter saw a good free kick saved down to the keepers left. I think we can win this match, Notts have had 10 shots with 2 on target, Newport 1 shot with 0 on target. Come on Notts.

Well it’s a point away which is never too bad but with a bit more bite up front we could have had all 3 points. It’s early days but there are some positives to take from this match particularly in the first half when with a bit of luck we’d have gone in winning at least 2-0.

I suppose one point is better than none, but Notts should be beating sides like Newport. Lack of Fire Power needs to be addressed very quickly or the Magpies could be in for a Rocky Season.

Stall summed it up well, MP will be searching for the right combination of attacking players.

Watching the game, it was a bit Maynardesque in that we couldn't get on top of the game but there were some positive differences...

The midfield was far more positive in it's approach, it seems we might just get the fully recovered version of Palmer we were hoping for

The substitutes came on and asserted themselves, Bennetts, Norburn and Edwards came on and did really well

The negatives today might even be positive if the technical board helps MP realise there are certain losing players that you should hesitate to give a shirt. His early substitutions suggest he can get on top of this himself anyway.

Finally, shout out for Dennis - excellent debut, I don't think anyone else was going to do anything to stop us losing today.

I'll take a point from the first game. It is a positive result to begin Notts's league campaign.

Plenty of possession as we expected but few clear cut chances. Grant should probably have done better with his opportunity in the first half.

I think Jodi did ok in his new position as an attacking midfielder. It will be interesting to see him shape up against better quality sides if he remains in that position.

After all that possession it was dissapointing to concede the goal, but pleased that the ref blew for a clear penalty for Notts, when he could easily have given Notts two more.

I was encouraged by the performance today. Hopefully, the players will begin to gel together as they get more playing time & training pitch practice together. Onto the next match at home to Salford, I can't wait.

Like many fans, I've been waiting to see JJ tried out in this role for ages because if he's at his best he could wreak havoc.

Today gave me a really bad feeling though. Out wide he can spend time teeing up his marker and choose his options. What we can't have is what we saw at times today - wanting time on the ball but being overpowered and dispossessed, then appealing to the ref for free kicks that will never come. If this is going to work out, he's going to have to think faster and be stronger. Early days, If he doesn't get a run of at least 5 games there we will never know.

Agreed, he's always going to be better on the wings because all said and done that's his best position, but as you say he needs five games or so before we can judge whether he can do a job as an AM.

Did anyone else think that Platt was fouled when they scored? Watching the game on the telly he appeared to have been pulled down.
