Everton's new stadium

Featured Replies

It'll be an amazing atmosphere there today. It's a unique place to watch football too, so much better than a motorway junction.

Also a bit jealous that Mansfield are playing there soon (apparently if you win a game in the League Cup, you get to play in another "round" - why did nobody explain this to us?). I wonder if @Dan is going?

I think the new Everton stadium is just another soulless bowl like the Arsenal & Spurs stadiums. Unfortunately nowadays they want to build these stadiums that lack identity & you can't tell one from the other apart from the colour scheme.

Goodison park had its own identity & also had bags of history & memorable moments. Who can ever forget the classic 1966 World Cup quarterfinal between N Korea & Portugal at Goodison Park. Korea were 3:0 up but lost to Portugal 3:5 but Eusebio scored 4 goals in a great comeback by Portugal.

A football ground is much more than a place to sit down & watch your team. It is a place that creates a sense of identity & belonging & brings people together. It brings with it a unique atmosphere that is unique to every traditional football ground up & down the Country.

Very True @Robbie the old grounds do hold some great memories of Matches and amazing Atmosphere. I remember standing in the Old Baseball Ground where the Rams used to play. The first time at the old Derby ground, I went with my Best Mate and his Dad, who told me Hold your Ground Young Un and don't let people push you around. I also remember when Home Fans and Away Fans stood shoulder to shoulder in the Pop Side before Fan Segregation (late 60's early 70's.). At the Baseball Ground you were also very close to the Pitch, which I think really did add to a Matches Atmosphere. I Don't know what it's like at Pride Park, as I've never been. But I suppose like the Game it's self Stadiums have to move with the Times. Wasn't there a rumour some years ago, that Notts and the Red Dogs were going to Share a Newly Built Ground at one time? That Doesn't Bare Thinking About.

as far as new grounds come, i do think everton has a nice stadium and it looks like its had the seats arched back to keep the sound in. a lot of modern grounds get it wrong, but i think this is one of the nicest and i do hope the fan noise is kept inside.

It looks amazing. They have done a great job with it, and whilst it's not traditional looking. It's by far one of the best rebuilds, which has some inspiration from Goodison Park.

@Dan should be there, as I believe he's still Mansfield's photographer, and I can't see him passing it up.

There are Notts fans going who want to tick the stadium off their "ground visits," and I hope they will be in the Everton end. Some new grounds will never compare to lost and former stadiums, but Everton have done well, IMO.

A field where dreams become reality.

There were 3 Notts fans in the away end mate. Two of them I got tickets for!

Yes mate I went. It took me back up to 92/92 again. It’s a decent stadium but they’ve got lots of teething problems to sort out. They had to delay kick off to get everyone in. It was a bit of a shambles. Also they parked the away coaches 20 minutes walk away so we had people on sticks, crutches and even in wheelchairs having to walk all that way. And after the game they were even further away because they left room for all the Everton coaches that were going back to Wrexham, Chester, Wales etc. loads of other issues too.

if you go onto my Facebook or Instagram there’s quite a few pics and vids on there that I posted during the night. Not had time to do the match pics yet didn’t get home until 3am.

Wow @Dan You'd think that a modern Stadium would have special parking for coaches close to the ground in a bus park.

That's really shoddy @Dan, I've also heard some stories about that now. As the stadium is obviously only accessible from one side, you'd have thought they would have some proper infrastructure in place rather than just muddling through somehow.

In general I'm a fan of old grounds because they generally have that sense of history, even if the original stands are long gone. But the point of it all is ultimately to watch the game, and preferably without a restricted view. If we are going to have new grounds, I'd like there to be something unique about them.

Agreed. Give me an old ground every day of the week. I’ve been to Tranmere today, I’d choose going there every time over Anfield or Bramley Moor Dock.
