Match Discussion: League Two - Walsall (A)

Massive massive win. Whether we deserved it is another matter on the play, but the team stuck at it & some of Martin's subs changed the game today.

Other matches have gone in our favour too, and we find ourselves in 4th place tonight.

Just look at this table. Notts in fourth place but importantly 8 points ahead of the team in eighth place.

Well listening to the radio I spent 60 minutes of that match fearing the worse, Pattersons substitutions made all the difference, it turned into a great battling performance by Notts and how satisfying to win it in the 90+4;minute with a header from Jodie, which he says is his first ever headed goal.

I love Stallard’s description that Jodie was in the “land of the giants” as he scored with his header. Me and Mrs. T were jumping round the room, I think I’ve done my back in. 😂

What a goal this was from Ollie Norburn, & it wasn't just the goal, he hardly celebrated & wanted the Notts players to get back to business to win the game. That's the sign of a leader

What a sublime cross field pass from Norburn to Kouhyar, & then Kouhyar's fantastic cross that found Jodi to head the winner. A great move that demonstrates the Notts County way of playing for all to see.

There's no glossing over how terrible things were for the majority of the game, but the main thing is the win. It was a superb comeback and very exciting in the dying minutes of the game. For those who attended there's nothing at all like coming back in this manner, and it means more when the performance overall wasn't the best. That isn't something we need to dwell on, or be harsh on the players. Unfortunately, I found the game very difficult and it's making me reconsider attending games in the future because I don't go to listen to people abusing the players (both teams).

Notts seemed to lack urgency and failed to generate any genuine forward momentum. Everything was being channeled through the right, and it made it very easy for Walsall to just sit back and attempt to stop us.

I understand why modern football relies on passing back, but it is frustrating and today there was too much of this.

It came as a result of players not making runs or movement, we can blame the player with the ball but if he knows Walsall will pinch it back it will make them re-think who to give the ball. The subs made a huge difference and we started to do everything that was lacking before Walsall had scored. It was a wake up call, and whilst they were poor too. I feel a draw was a fairer result, so I am delighted we pinched all three points.

Winning ugly is something a lot of fans claim to want, but in truth many focus too much on performances and whilst I believe they matter. As, I would rather be a good, consistent team. I understand the importance of winning ugly. Tom Iorpenda, Nick Tsaroulla, and Jodi Jones truly impressed me, although JJ struggled at times with his performance, and I believe it's important to acknowledge that without excessive criticism. It's harsh to be lenenant to him, at the cost of another player who put in more effort but didn't really output much. Just my opinion, of course.
