Two Players In?

@Pies4u I think he has been good

Good for you. Are you related to him? I don't know a Notts fan that rates him at all & the scum fans I speak to think he is dreadful.

I think he is a glorified pub player who will be closer to the Conference than the C'ship in 2 years time. He's a big, powerful youth but absolutely no idea how to control a ball, beat a man or hit a ball cleanly & keep it on target at this level. He should have improved whilst with us but he looks like a fish out of water. To quote a certain R Atkinson, " he can trap a ball further than I can kick it".

I'd say that in recent weeks he's offered nothing to our performance, no balance, no penetration & no defensive cover for the full back. The sooner we palm him off elsewhere the sooner we'll improve IMO.

Supposedly he can affect games from afar......... :shifty:

That's only when hes knocking about with his pal William Hill ;)

I guess it's a case of "one mans meat is another mans poison". I guess you two will have to agree to disagree.

For my part I think @Pies4u comments were a little harsh, McLaughlin hasn't been that bad in my opinion and that's what the game is all about ......opinions.

I agree opinions on the game not snide comments

Firstly the need to ask is he related is to prove what point? Secondly the rest of that opening statement just staggers given your previous replies.

Maybe you should concentrate on what you have previously written not quoting people within the game that you obviously hold in high regard.

Why? The Akinson quote is merely to illustrate a point.

You may rate him but I don't know you. I sit with and speak to a number of people who think he's useless.

I think McLaughlin is cr@p, you don't. I can live with that - but I'd love to know why you think he offers anything at all and/or why this fascination with "assists" holds any credibility in your mind.

I think at this level McLaughlin is fine.

He's still the unfinished product and I don't think he will break into the Forest side, however he offers something. It would be interesting to see how does with a bit more firepower upfront, I think if players was getting on to his crosses/balls people may view him in a different light. I heard he missed an open net again the other night, so if that's the case his shooting seems pretty weak.

That said, I would take him because he's fairly decent at this level.

I hope whoever comes in around January are players whom get others similar to McLaughlin performing to an higher standard. It's hardly like going on the radio and saying he's the wonderkid of League One and then retracting your opinion because someone else said he's dog.....

Peoples opinions are what keeps football interesting.

Open and shut cases are pretty boring, though @Pies4u makes me laugh in a good way. I respect when people mean what they say and can discuss their point, as @Northants Pie does.

I've got to say I agree with@Pies4u on the McLaughlin issue to some extent. He isn't up to the job and doesn't really add anything to the team. He is really typical of my current frustrations with Notts. We are still picking up points etc...so let's not go down the 'remember where we set's road again. At some point we need to look forward rather than back and McLaughlin occasionally puts in a good cross. His job is to always be in a position to put in a good cross. The frustration with JCR was always the final ball, but most could agree he did try to add to the game.

Taking JCRs contract situation out of it he was generally ok. McLaughlin isn't even that.

Not acceptable as a player from a higher level to occupy a shirt and show less than what we've seen before. All players have bad games. That's why we're in League one or or a bad year League two. He regularly puts in poor performances and occasionally does one thing of merit.

But as others have said, we all see things differently.

Bring back Enoch I say!

(Joking btw)

It's not that I rate him as this all conquering superstar etc etc, calling him a shockingly bad player though is like i said before a little far fetched, he's hardly a Brian O'callaghan is he? My point re the assists was to merely show his contribution to the team against any other winger we have had playing in that position recently

The problem is that the stats prove nothing.

I'd say that we would create more chances and score more goals if we had a better player than him! Petrasso is a far more effective, incisive and dangerous player. He causes opponents problems, McL falls over the ball, gets caught in possession and generally lets the ball run out of play too often for this level IMO.

Stats won't imptove his ball control or ability to strike the ball cleanly.

I'd just hope that we replace him with a better quality player or that he dramatically improves. Either would be acceptable but I'm not convinced, as yet, that he can deliver. I hope he does, I've nothing against him and he is certainly strong and ought to be a more significant/effective footballer.

@themightymagpies if what I hear is true then it is a two horse race, between Fleetwood and Greg Abbott...

Anyone heard the Andy Johnson rumour?

According to the Post webchat Matt Green from Birmingham might be a possibility, he's coming back from a long injury though so not sure how well that would work.
