Match Discussion: Game 3 - Plymouth (H)

This will be a bigger test for Notts, I felt nervous on the day of the Stevenage game but this is something different.

If our defence and team allow Plymouth to attack, then fans will soon get annoyed and the awkward vibe which came back at times during Stevenage will be all the more present. Fingers crossed we will play wingers who are instructed to be direct - the passes will make the difference if we can manage to get shots on goal.

Play someone alongside Stead, let him drift and save his energy.

Get the defence to press, not flick and if they can - clear the ball. I don't care personally if the defence lumps the ball away, allow the midfield and attack to play the pretty stuff. I just want the defence to do their role and keep the pressure off Collins.

What would be your team? Predictions?

Not quite certain yet which of the new signings are defenders who can also play in midfield and visa versa, and whose best where; so no team selection from me! Except to say Hollis if possible to be rested, and I would rather have Snijders on the pitch than Burke. Hopefully Notts can press from the kick off and put Argyle on the back foot, I don't want to see Notts trying to soak up pressure.

My own resolution is to save any criticism for after the match, so unlike Saturday I'll only be shouting encouragement, as I think how this game turns out will have more impact than the Stevenage performance.

My match prediction is that JS will have demanded and will get a better team effort over the 90 minutes.

I think we are going struggle, they look fairly well grouped already and attack pretty much directly (the type we seem to buckle under).

We'll need to call upon some of the new signings to stay tight at the back, it's important that we at least manage to get a draw but I do think they could win 2-0 (if not worse). I just hope afterwards when whatever happens does, fans consider the amount of games it will take for the squad to settle and the issue that comes if negativity sets in now. 5-7 games in, I think things will be different but I hope we can play well.

A good result tonight could lift things around Notts massively.

It will be a very tough game, they will be ready for a fight since they have started off badly

Id play 4-1-2-1-2

Collin

Tootle-Duffy-laing-Dickinson

O'Connor

Rodman. Snijders

Aborah

Forte-Stead

I like Tootle at centre mid but id rather we play wingers than wing backs

Back to the old days 2-3-5
Collin

Duffy Laing

Tootle O'Connor Dickinson

Snijders Aborah Stead Rodman Forte

Sheridan should be eager to beat his former team, likewise Spencer who starts up front for argyle

im nervous but why did mark stallard say that notts have not scored a goal so far this season? stead scored last sat lol.

Take a bow Jon Stead!

If he continues as he is, he'll prove me wrong - as I didn't think we would be our leading striker but clearly so far he's taken the challenge to prove he's still got it. Plus considering he was rumoured to be attracting interest, he's shown that his head is firmly on playing well for us. Shaky start by Notts, yet Plymouth don't look that impressive. If we keep focused and hit them we could get another goal.

Wel we lost at home to a team who hadn't scored a goal before tonight thanks to more crap defefending. Crikey, who'd of thought it? In other news, water is wet, and it's been revealed that the pope is catholic

I thought we were the better side tonight, we definitely had the chances to win the game let alone draw but we lack quality when it comes to finishing, they had 2 good chances and scored from them, just like last season we dominated but couldn't score when the opportunities came, we must give Sheridan time, the booing at the end was terrible, how can you boo a team after 3 league games and dominating against one of the favourites to go up

I didn't notice that, the only booing I heard was directed at the ref.  I thought the players got a good reception after the final whistle.

You may well be right, but its happened at both home games now, but we have had a bad ref for both

Fans seemed to be disheartened, which is to be expected - the results so far haven't been good enough but decent performances would have helped. It sounded like tonight we played well and deserved something from the game, however the defence needs work - why haven't we tried to replace Dean Yates with someone of 'experience'? Perhaps Jamie Fullarton would like a coaching role? Mind you even this he may be out of depth with. :P

It's early, I keep saying but if anyone new is reading this - the first win will be massive for us.

Things take time and there are good players trying to settle. All of the new signings look like they can do a job for us, although Collins should probably miss the next game as a first team starter - give Loach the chance and if he does well, look to strengthen the 4 people (it should be 4, never 3) and work on seeing it click. Plymouth are a good side, regardless of if they hadn't scored until now - stats mean nothing in football in most cases anyway.

Plymouth were there for the taking, but Notts simply weren't up to the job. Improved performance? Definitely. Shaky defence? Definitely. As Laing settles in, that should sort itself. Next up a trip to the monkey hangers. I doubt it will be a 0-0 draw. They have scored 6 and conceded 5 in 3 games.

Disheartened...yes, but only in the aspect of our bench. Why is Smith even on our bench?...taking the place of someone with promise like , Pedro's son. Campbell and Oliver can be perceived as not good enough..things are that bad i may even want Idle back :D

An improvement - both the team and the atmosphere. Fantastic individual effort from Stead. There were a few times where Plymouth had chance to regroup as the ball went backwards and sideways rather than forwards. it keeps possession but is frustrating to see. Sometimes Notts players seem slow to move into space and support the player with the ball, and then the ball has to go back to the defense making it easy for the opposition.

Though it was a defeat I came away in a better mood about Notts than Saturday's draw.

I agree Sheridan and the team need time. Didn't hear any boos but I left on the whistle.

It sounded like it was just a few at the top

Sorry to say it, Notts got what they deserved yesterday.

Only a few players stood out for me as having an acceptable game and we may have pressured them, but the defending was utterly atrocious. When will we learn to defend set pieces?

We did have twice as many shots and corners as well as 56% possession so how we deserved to lose I'll never know
