Memories of the 1996 playoff final between Notts and Bradford

26 May is the anniversary of when Notts went to Wembley to take on Bradford in the playoff final and sadly were denied promotion in a 2-0 defeat.

Dan Hamilton opened the scoring for the Bantams just eight minutes in and, despite a Magpies fightback, Mark Stallard struck after the break to send the Yorkshire side up.

What memories do you have of the day? Let PON know!

I recall being very disappointed with the game, my Grandfather took me and I remember it quite well despite being young. Our fans seemed very up for the occasion but the outcome was quite poor. I wasn't impressed with Bradford at all.

I don't remember much of a fightback at all. We barely even got going andΒ Bradford fully deserved the win. Even the atmosphere from the Notts fans was strangely subdued - as if no-one really believed we were going to do it.

We stumbled into that final, as Murphy had sold all of our best players and replaced them with very average ones, especially in midfield.
I think apathy had set in with most supporters and all I remember were around 11k notts fans outnumbered by over 25k Bradford fans and a game that we were dominated in.
It was a rubbish game, followed by over 20 years of rubbish since, bar 2, or 3 seasons.
