Guardian article on Notts, McGregor and Grealish

Two of our former loanees are meeting in some football tournament tomorrow. The Guardian have written an article about their time together at Notts. Have a look!

Callum McGregor was highlighted by Celtic, I read some time ago that they wanted a Championship team to take him on loan but only League One clubs came in for him. Notts managed to get in early, he also featured in the team photo as he had been training with Notts before the loan agreement had been confirmed.

I didn't realise that he was 28 now, but he has done well.

The article is a nice reminder how good Notts can be with the right youth signings on loan.

Quite right @Joshua, but we have had a lot of dross as well though to balance this out. Just wish we could nurture our own youth at times.

Will be interested to see if they come across each other tonight at any stage and how they react.

Believe it or not, I recall talk of Callum McGregor being the player that would go on to achieve more in his career. He was the player considered to be 'ready' for first-team football and it turned out to be a massive coup for Notts to get him on loan.

Jack Grealish was always tipped for great things, I believe Aston Villa wasn't that keen on loaning him out but the club and in particular Chris Kiwomya managed to pull it off.

Jack wanted to get some first-team experience, he wanted to break into the Villa team and at 17-years-old he would've only achieved this by going out on loan. I know both players enjoyed their spells with us, Jack's dad once told me that he always speaks highly of the club, looking at scores and when we played Villa in the league cup. He wanted to come across to our fans, just to relive that appreciation he got whilst playing here.

Fantastic players, but let's not forget that Kasper Schmeichel also qualified with Denmark for the group stages (although knocked out).

We also played a major role in his development, but then again, Kasper was always too good for League Two football.
