  1. At half time I thought we was well in control, yes the game wasn't perfect but we had Accrington Stanley in our pockets. They had to resort to diving and heavily pulling on shirts to try and get things from the game - after our second goal we should have killed the game off but failed to do that. Stead really needs some sort of inspiration to warrant starting, Forte looked much better for the minutes he played. Think we do need another striker, though the issue with Stead/Ameobi is that Nolan constantly plays them without resting either really. I'd have taken Stead off at half time.
  2. Oh no, don't say that @Fozzy. Twitter will have a meltdown and he won't want to go on it again for several days. Haha!
  3. Tonight's one of those games where past encounters go totally out of the window, it's all about who shows the most determination to win - I think it will be a close game personally but I do believe Notts will edge the final outcome. There's a lot of teams chasing for a play-off place, so this will make the game interesting as we are both sides that would ultimately want to seek out such position. Yet it's still early days and we are feeling out our opposition, as will other teams and I just hope that we take the pressure off ourselves by retaining the ball. Accrington Stanley will want us to do a lot of the running around, whilst they absorb the play and wait for us to make a mistake.
  4. Stanley are a decent League Two outfit these days, they can also play some good football and aren't aside easily pushed off the ball. Tonight should be a great game between two teams chasing a play-off place come the end of the season, fingers crossed we can warrant and deserve the win. COYP!
  5. Now here's a surprise, well done Jake Bugg for doing something positive.
  6. But you have to pass to retain the ball? Fundamentally this is one of the most basic aspects of football. If you don't pass, you won't score and if you can't retain the ball - well you'll be in trouble because it sums up how Notts prior to Kevin Nolan coming in. So he doesn't want the players to pass for the sake of it? I suppose he means he doesn't want to waste possession.

  9. The squads hard working, the early signs of flaws is also being focused on - after Coventry I have to praise the players for bouncing back and for committing themselves to what Kevin Nolan is trying to do. It's very promising, yet more hard work and determination is required. Brilliant read @samwatto2008.
  10. You can't say that @CliftonMagpie!! This good feel factor needs to continue, so a draw is the bare minimum. We just need to see another decent performance because things right now on looking quite good, bar the odd thing which can easily be fixed - I actually feel very confident going into games. I did after Coventry (they're a decent side at this level).
  11. Togetherness can go a very long way, even without the depth in terms of skill or flare but I think we have a decent squad. We just need to always focus, and work hard.
  12. We need to avoid changes after the Wycombe win, I think the only consideration may be down to tactical reasons. I can't see Fitzsimons starting, Hewitt should probably be replaced and Stead should start on the bench for me. He hasn't impacted any games to my knowledge and has been very disappointing. We can't keep starting Stead and Ameobi either, it isn't quite working - so give someone else a chance to prove their worth. Stead usually becomes fired up from not starting and if we can get him to replicate his form of last season (before his injury) he would be worth starting. Accrington will want to slow in their building, so we should get more time on the ball. Allow Grant and possibly Milsom/Yates to do the running and creativity. We should be good, I'll predict a 2-0 win.

  15. Sounds positive, though he's clearly making excuses for some of their play. Second half I was told for 20 minutes they was hammering us, yet it doesn't matter if they was missing 'some key players' - the manager has to make do and we both go into the game with a squad.
  16. How many times does he need to prove his worth though? Every manager seems to have their favourites, and it always seems that that no matter what Jonathan Forte is fazed out of the team - but he comes back each time (provided he's given game time). He fully deserves a run in the squad, whereby I am certain Kevin Nolan will see his worth to Notts. I hate to say it but it's all on the managers shoulders now, yet I am baffled as to how other players manage to retain their place for doing very little.
  17. Notts County's season continues to move in an upwards trajectory after an impressive display - albeit with a temporary blip - in a 4-2 win at Wycombe Wanderers in Saturday's League Two encounter at Adams Park. Richard Duffy opened the scoring with a header and some comical defending led to Adam El Abd scoring an own goal to see the Magpies two goals up early on, a position retained at the break. Wycombe, to their credit, fought back and clawed two goals back, but perseverance from Notts saw Jonathan Forte claw his side back into the lead before he laid the groundwork for Lewis Alessandra to add a killer fourth. In this article, Pride of Nottingham looks at several aspects of the game, from the performance to whether the result was fair, and how to build on from a successful weekend. Was the result fair? It’s refreshing to write this - Notts fully deserved the win and, although claiming all three points was made tougher by allowing Wycombe back into the game, County fully deserved to power on and claim the win, so absolutely fair! How did Notts play? Notts put together a fine performance in the first half, with the pressure heavily preventing Wycombe gaining any forward momentum. The opening goal saw a surge from Notts, and for the most part the football was bright. In the second half, we saw that jagged play return and Notts looked out of the game after conceding twice. Yet things clicked after Jonathan Forte scored and Notts seemed hungry for more goals! How did Wycombe Wanderers play? First half they were simply outclassed, and looked certain to fall victim to a heavy defeat – yet Gareth Ainsworth managed to spark a temporary revival which saw the host take the game to the visitors. Overall they put together a heroic performance but fell short when it truly mattered. Did our tactics work out? Kevin Nolan introduced Jorge Grant to the starting 11, and applied tactics, which would cast doubts over the ‘route one’ claims – in the first half Notts played some very good football, showing no fear against Wycombe and working hard. A relapse briefly, mostly due to a loss of focus – would eventually see two substitutions fix anything that may not have been working. The tactics from the word go, to the in-game plans worked a treat! How did the referee perform? There were some dubious decisions, yet he largely allowed the football to flow throughout the game and would only fall to some very minor criticism from me. Who do we play next? Accrington Stanley, who are they? Don’t forget that the game is played on Friday 25th due to the Forest game. How should we play them? It’s hard to consider any changes after the recent results, and performances, there are very few things to suggest. Others may wish to see Adam Collin dropped for Ross Fitzsimons but this is extremely unlikely to happen. Given the opportunity to add a bit of pace upfront instead of Jon Stead is the only change I would suggest. Notts must continue the direct approach, whilst maintaining the spirit to score and of course ensuring the play stems from the floor. I would suggest that centre of the park is the ideal area for us to explore, as there should be more time to create chances there. Wycombe fans view (courtesy of Gasroom.org): fedup1980: There is no denying that the quality of our football is very poor regardless of the goals. Shev: Left ourselves too much to do. Three of their four goals were horribly soft. At least we are finding the net - 7 in 3 games, but 8 conceded is not going to cut it. bill_stickers: I'm less angry at the 4-2 than I was at 2-0. At least we played some footie second half and it was entertaining. Their third was undeserved but the fourth just shows how poor we are defensively compared to two years ago. Shev: It did show something to get back to 2-2, but it is a shame we look so wobbly every time a ball is knocked into our box. There are going to be a lot more high scoring games, seeing as so far both teams are guaranteed two goals just for showing up. Glenactico: Similar game to Cheltenham. Stinking start left us chasing the game, then we stuff up the comeback with some woeful defending. I'd venture that our attacking football was better than County's. Second half we were excellent and looked a real threat. Could easily have put ourselves 3-2 ahead. Defensively we look horrible. Not winning enough in the air and Brown really hasn't inspired any confidence at all. wformation: A disappointing result today, but the second half did show that we can play football which is enjoyable to watch. Unfortunately, the OG in the first half and the third goal, following a foul close to our penalty area, undid the improvement. If the squad maintain the style we played in the second half I think the rest of the season could be very exciting and certainly enjoyable. Already we have scored 7 but conceded 8. So we can't say we are not seeing many goals. With the injured players back who knows how much better we might get. 18. Good old Jonathan Forte saving the day, I hope he has a word with Kevin Nolan because that's two goals by him and he's looking a great option. 4-2, completely different turn around after we allowed Wycombe back into the game. Surely the points are ours now?
  19. Everything was in our favour at half time, with Charlie Slater and Mark Stallard mentioning that it's 'an easy team talk' for Kevin Nolan. I would have stuck to whatever was said before we even kicked off, informing them to go for a third but to keep their focus throughout the field. It's very disappointing to see us give a lead a way like this, it really shouldn't be a case of seeing Notts crumble once we concede. Despite all this things sounds fairly positive, yet it seems like momentum is in favour for Wycombe. Is it Collin or the awful defence from last season? Fingers crossed we might be able to get back in the lead or just take the point. It wouldn't be a bad result, just expect to be better when leading.
  20. Kevin Nolan will always have this effect over potential signings. I'd like to see him, and others helping players a bit more because certain ones seemed phased out completely but have been retained. I just think this would benefit him but he's still learning, so we need to be mindful. Yet Ryan Yates seems to be decent prospect, I do think Jorge Grant is the superior player mind.
  21. I think Yates is better at doing the ugly work, much like we had Curtis Thompson doing. Against Chesterfield for me he did much better at defending and winning the ball back, he seemed lost and nervous in procession going forward and drawn a lot of criticism at half time and after the game. *Cough *Cough @Super_Danny_Allsopp I really think we need to set ourselves up to be more creative, so again I echo the Spurs styled formation. Yet provided we keep Wycombe quiet, we shouldn't really need to worry. They're a good side and are unpredictable, yet we beat them by playing as a unit and being direct - so we really need to ensure we are getting our creative players on the ball. Milsom and Grant would do me just fine.
  22. Forte with Ameobi would be good to see. I wouldn't change much else for the sake of it, yet perhaps Dickinson deserves a start ahead of Jones? I can't believe I'm suggesting this, but we do have to reward the players that perform well. It's going to be a test, yet I can actually see us winning if we setup up well against them and work hard. Provided the basics are met by us as a standard, chances will come and I wouldn't be surprised if Grant/Forte don't run the show.
  23. We aren't swapping Premier League stickers or Topps trading card games. I'm sure there's some very good players who could do a job here, though lets not get ahead of ourselves. We need to keep the squad numbers down but if there's a goalscorer then I am all ears.
  24. Walker's a striker buddy, but yeah - I've read the reports also. I don't mind loans as much, yet we have to avoid the pitfalls which we have seen previous seasons (large squad, unsettled players, too many loanees) etc.
