Opposition View: Accrington Stanley Fan’s Perspective on Facing Notts County
Introduction: Name: Michael Beardmore. How long have you supported Accrington Stanley? I’ve supported Accrington Stanley since I was about 8. I’m now 35. Are you a season ticket holder? Yes, I’m a season ticket holder. Age? 35. Favourite Player? Shaun Whalley. Andy Holt has been a prominent figure in the club’s management. How do you feel about his leadership and the direction he has taken the club? Are there any specific initiatives or changes he has implemented that you particularly appreciate or disagree with? Andy Holt has been amazing for Stanley. What he has built at the club is incredible, including the ground and clubhouse. I agree with the changes he has made. How would you rate Accrington Stanley’s performance so far this season? Are there any standout players who have made a significant impact? I don’t think we have played really badly. We’ve had a couple of tough games. Against Doncaster away, we were well in the game for 65 minutes. Shaun Whalley has been as consistent as always, showing quality. A few new lads have looked good too. Tyler Walton looks like a real find. Are there any specific matchups or battles on the pitch that you think will be particularly important in determining the outcome of the game? We just need our defence to stay strong. Maybe Farrend Rawson can try to keep Daavid McGoldrick quiet, but it won’t be easy. What are your expectations for the upcoming match against Notts County? Do you feel confident about Accrington Stanley’s chances? We played okay there last season, but again, it won’t be easy at all. I’d take a draw now; I’ll say 2-2. What do you see as the biggest challenges facing Accrington Stanley in the near future? Conversely, what opportunities do you think the club should capitalise on? It’s always the same for Stanley, keeping our better players is a challenge every season. And some of the young lads too. It’s not easy. What are your expectations for Accrington Stanley this season? Do you have any specific hopes or predictions for where the team will finish in the league? Safety first, I’d take mid-table, but I would love a play-off push. Maybe this young team, including Donald Love, isn’t quite ready for that yet. Accrington Stanley has a reputation for nurturing young talent. How do you feel about the club’s youth development program? Are there any young players you believe have the potential to become key figures in the future? We have a fantastic young set-up with the likes of Alex Henderson, Connor O’Brien, Dan Martin, Aaron Pickles, and a few more. Yes, the future does look bright. Final comments from Chris Accrington Stanley are always a team which is well-organised and works as a unit. They will be dangerous on the break and counter. Notts County must show their robust approach to defending, with Stanley being quite effective at set pieces and this will be a key area for the magpies' to balance. In attacking, Notts will have to make use of all the space on the pitch and when chances present themselves, it would be good to see the centre of the park explored and not just the flanks. We have the quality to punish them, but I believe it will fall down to pressure and who takes their chances. I predicted a 2-0 win for Notts. Match Discussion: Game 5 - The Owd Reds (H)
The key for Notts will be to try to make sure we continue with the good work down the flanks, but at times drift into the centre of the park when play opens up. We can be a bit predictable when we rely on the wider areas of the pitch, and it's the quality we have that makes it work. It's like how we focus on trying to create chances where there's little for the finisher to do but tap the ball into the net. I would like to see us take a few chances from the edge of the box and focus on getting shots on target. I doubt deny that Accrington will be very organised themselves as a team but it's important that Notts tries to balance the way they create chances.

Flying over the San Sirrel
I have to be picky, the video quality is awful and reminds me of when I used my Nokia 5310 Xpress Red phone. It's very whitewashed, which takes the enjoyment away from actually seeing it. There are cheap drones on the market that can capture better footage.

Memory Club.... Rotherham & Kevin Keegan visits Notts
I wondered if Kevin Keegan had done some sort of event I hadn't heard about, as many of my Facebook friends managed to get their photos taken with him. Impressively, he seemed very friendly and was all smiles. Now it all makes sense. It was interesting to see him at Meadow Lane. The memory club is a very good idea.

Scouting dossier : Swindon v Notts
Yes, when I posted in a banter group on Facebook asking for Swindon Town fans to answer some questions. He was a player mentioned before I had even spoken to anyone, but the fans I did speak with said he was a very good player for them.

Alternative grandstands...
Why not? It's quirky and it repurposes an old bus. A lot of non-league clubs have parts of their stands taken from sheds and other building materials. I forget what, @super_ram told me about Alfreton Town's stand(s). It's something along this line, that one of the stands was made up of something re-used nearby.

Match Discussion: Game 5 - The Owd Reds (H)
I see the game similar to Swindon Town, Accrington might not have had a great start, but they are better than where they currently sit. We know very well they can punish you if allowed to get back into the game, they can lead and work well as a team to come back into games. Notts will have to be at their best, as we might hold onto the ball and have a high possession rate, but it's important we defend robustly, but also try to keep the play in their half of the pitch. Last season, they impressed me with how dangerously they could break or counter. I haven't seen much of them this season, but I know they are a good team and have a knack for nurturing young talent.

Prediction league 24/25 round 4 - Saturday 31 August
It's all about maintaining points and remembering to post to each round! I am sure everyone will have a rollercoaster of a prediction League. When you are nearer the bottom, there's only one way to go.

Callum McGregor against Rangers
He did runs like that so many times for us, it was a very nice goal. A little bit of Goo Goo Doll's Iris, which caught me by surprise.

Speeding in Notts, A38 hotspot
I hate speeding, it's pointless and just causes issues. It's not the car(s), but the drivers. So, many bad drivers speed and think it's perfectly acceptable. That said, it's quite well known that laser speed guns usually are poorly maintained and not calibrated properly. I know, the police will say otherwise and even if you research it, a lot of places state "accuracy and reliability in measuring vehicle speeds." but again the laser speed guns need to be checked before use and often they are not. It's the issue with the police issuing them to "staff" rather than actual trained officers, or training the staff to calibrate and maintain them. Still, it's very shocking to see such high numbers recorded in Nottingham.

Coolest Summer since 2015
When it's been warm, records have been broken and those really hot days we had - it made it hard for me to adjust to them. They were way too hot, but it's been okay. A little too much rain for me.

Memory Lane for Fan of Big Tone
It was a real pleasure to interview Colin Slater, PON might be the only one to have his story from his words. Colin will always be our dear Uncle Colin! I actually used to call him at first, he always insisted that I called him Colin, but I tended to be much politer than that. He wrote some excellent tales, including for us. I'm sure him recounting legends such as Tony Hateley would be a great read.

Notts County Women v Sutton Coldfield Women
Great result for the Notts County Women's team, it's a very good win. The table is looking good too, building on last season is very important, and the start will show how the squad has improved. It's good to see them starting off this way, as it gives belief that they won't struggle and can keep pushing on in their bid for promotion.

See you guys Saturday
It's been awhile, @BradtheMiller. I can't say I have checked out your YouTube channel, but I will give it a watch soon. Meadow Lane has changed a lot since your last visit. The Family Stand will be a good area to watch the game as it's not all that busy. Around the ground, it's still very busy even with The Navi and The Nest's fan zones. Enjoy your trip, don't be worried about sharing a video. I don't mind at all.

Match Discussion: Game 4 - The Robins (A)
I have to admit, I had my reservations about the starting line-up, and I wasn't aware that Jatta had been ruled out. I did wonder why he wasn't on the bench. It was more about what would have happened if David McGoldrick had to go off, than starting. I know we could have pushed Cedwyn Scott up top, it highlights the importance of having someone as back up, or can fill in the position. I noticed Swindon Town had scored, then that it was 1-1. I didn't feel all that great, so I didn't listen to the commentary. It was a very good win, I did see the stats early on when it was 1-0 and at the end. It doesn't sound like either team were bad, just that we took our chances. I am going to watch the full highlights, so I can see the game in more detail. https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/videos/de4e5b7c-4b00-45b2-a38f-28b7506c98e0

Weekly Chat 26th August- 1st September
Today, I made homemade pizzas for everyone. Ava requested a stuffed crust, while Jake and Ellie devoured two 12-inch pizza each, topped with delectable cheesy bites. Then a half-and-half 12 inch pizza which I shared with @cheeky~k8. Made the dough before going to see @super_ram. We talked, then went to try to tidy the garden up a bit by breaking down branches, which was good. So, I definitely got in some exercise today! Came home, rolled the dough out and in went four homemade pizzas. I've been given new exercises to do, and all three seemed to make a difference when doing them. It's just a balancing act as I do tend to tire easily, but I am very happy with it. A little pain doesn't bother me, I have arthritis in my joints already. The back pain is the worst though, but I am determined to make the most of what I can do. So, pretty pleased with it. Thanks, Tony!

A Statement From The Notts County Board of Directors.
TBH, an update on contract talks would have easily outweighed any disappointment from the transfer window deadline day. I think Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley will be waiting to see how things progress, but if Notts are approaching talks with them, then we need to sell how they are performing and give them reassurances that we are pushing for promotion. Players naturally want to be a part of ambitious clubs, it's all well-being linked to the likes of MK Dons, but there's no guarantee when making a move like that. Come Christmas, ideally that will be when Notts tries to get them both secured with a contract extension.

August Player of the Month: Pride of Nottingham
Congratulations, Dan Crowley! It was well deserved! Each of the nominations worked tirelessly during August, and it was a good month for the squad as a whole.

Welcome To Notts George Abbott
I'm not expecting a Ryan Yates type signing, although I do think from the sounds of it George Abbott sounds a more gifted footballer in terms of talent. I mean, it would be awesome if he was a work horse, or of the mould that we experienced with Jack Grealish and Callum McGregor, but I think that seems unlikely too. I have very little expectations from him, but I am encouraged, and I believe he will give us all. The comments about his defensive capabilities are a good sign, League Two is far more physical than youth football. Yet I think given a chance he will flourish and even if he's not of the benefits of the players mentioned previously, I am sure he will stamp his own marks on his time here. He sounds decent enough, he spoke well in his video, but not so much the video Notts used on the reel. He sounded very much like a footballer, but that could be down to being unsure what to say.
-
Welcome to Notts, Jevani Brown.
I don't see him as being an important part of the squad, if he becomes this, it would be a bonus but to my eyes he's more cover. I think there's a higher possibility that we might play him not as a striker. Obviously, I think we have signed him to give us options for that area. I just think we'll see him playing deeper, which if, it is the case, it could free up Cedwyn Scott who would benefit from playing as a striker. It's quite underwhelming, but it's for Jevani Brown to prove himself. There were comments about him coming back from an injury, so there's that potential that he might not be quite ready. Since this seems to be a remote transfer, I think it's highly likely that we couldn't make options before Brown's worked out, and he's come into the plan since then. As I say, if he does well brilliant, if he doesn't play much at least we have the cover. If he doesn't perform well, then I think we haven't lost anything. There's always January, which I feel we might use more productively.

A Statement From The Notts County Board of Directors.
It sounds very much like a PR statement to try to defuse any potential disappointment. "always making responsible decisions with the long-term financial sustainability of the club in mind." I didn't expect us to throw money at the transfer window, reading between the lines it sounds like the club has actively tried to bring in players but have fallen into the market of signing loan players towards the end of the transfer window. There's nothing wrong with that. I am sure that the recruitment process looked at the options, and we might not have got all the players we aimed for, but that's football. "We’re confident that we’ve achieved those objectives this summer and have every belief that, while League Two is shaping up to be an extremely strong division once again, the squad we’ve assembled is capable of competing for promotion." I feel confident, there's always January to review what we have budget wise and what players could possibly make movements coming in. The positives are that we have rejected bids, those could have seen reinvestments in the players, but I don't think we would easily find that type of quality. Dan Crowley and Jodi Jones are vital to the team's dynamics. It's a welcomed statement but quite basic; I am sure I would have expected one. As I say, I think it's to keep morale up and avoid negative landmines from going off.

Match Discussion: Game 4 - The Robins (A)
Given the chance, I think we have to play through the middle a bit. Swindon might be expecting us to use the flanks, I think Tranmere Rovers assumed that and away from home we can't rely on the home advantage to lift the players. I really hope Curtis Edwards is rewarded for his superb game against Grimsby, I think he would make the difference again if we start bright enough. I've been noticing a lot of comments about Kabongo Tshimanga lately. I think he's very overrated and has wasted a good opportunity at Peterborough to make something of himself. He doesn't worry me, League Two might be more of his standard but if we play well defensively, he has always looked very average against us. He did when he played for Chesterfield, and he was in form for them. I don't want this to sound like I am dismissing Swindon's chances, I just think they'll have better options.
