  1. @KingMaynard had me in stitches when I read his comment. I wasn't aware that they had any sort of 'team up' with Xbox. I would have associated Football Manager more with PC, although I am aware it's on Xbox. What a hilarious remark! I fully endorse more of these types of comments.
  2. I am very impressed by him; I think he is the closest to being an all round keeper that we have had. It might be overlooked, but when you have a keeper that doesn't want to see his team concede goals that can be one of the best attributes to have. It can be a driving force to improve, be better and ensure that a considerable amount of thought goes into every decision made on the pitch. Speaking on match days, fans have nothing but praise for him - although some did express comments for the goal Grimsby scored (which I missed) but I see that has a defensive mistake. He's a very good keeper, who should grow further in the role of our number one. I think the decision by Notts to sign him is a very good decision because he could have easily ended up somewhere else. We now have some who look good with the ball at his feet, can come for the ball if needed, pulls off good saves, strong in commanding his box, excellent in the distribution department and solid with aerial threats. Best keeper we have had in a long time in terms of their all round game, this said, I do believe Sam Slocombe and Aidan Stone are good enough backups. However, they possess contrasting weaknesses. If we were able to combine the best of each of them, I think we'd have someone closer to what we have with Alex Bass.
  3. Introduction: Name: Steff Bale How long have you supported Bromley? I have been attending Bromley matches since I was 11 years old. I’m 52 now! I am a Bromley fan, but many Bromley supporters support other clubs, especially big London clubs. I used to watch Arsenal more than Bromley, but for the last few years, I have been going to watch Bromley more than Arsenal. Are you a season ticket holder? I was a season ticket holder at Bromley until this season when they changed it all. You now have to be in a certain area of the ground, but I prefer to watch home games in different areas of the ground and I do not wish to be restricted, so no season ticket this season due to that reason! Age? I am aged 52. Favourite Player? I would say my favourite player has to be Michael Cheek. He’s the top scorer every season and has scored all the important goals for Bromley, including winning the FA Trophy at Wembley against Wrexham and the play-off final against Solihull to win promotion. He also hit the ground running and is scoring in League 2 as well! How does it feel to be in the Football League, and how has the journey been for Bromley so far? It still doesn’t feel real, to be honest, a club like Bromley in the Football League. I still feel like it’s a dream! Some of the away trips are to epic places with big stadiums, clubs with massive history, and some have even been in the Premier League! It’s what you dream of, really! Bromley have done well so far, holding their own, winning the first 2 games, then a couple of losses (one was very unlucky) and a draw last Saturday away at Colchester. Very credible so far and don’t look out of place in League 2 at all. I think we will be fine. Who are Bromley’s standout players this season, and what impact do you think they will have on the game? I think Grant Smith in goal is outstanding and has kept us in the game many times. He's very solid, one of the best in the league in many people's opinion, including mine. Our defence is solid, all very tall big guys. Byron Webster is excellent at CB, our captain with a huge amount of league experience at different clubs, including Millwall. Kamarl Grant is solid in defence on loan from Millwall. He's doing a fantastic job. Also, Idris Odutayo in defence is very solid, to name a few! Up front, as mentioned, Michael Cheek is excellent and will always have a chance of scoring. He's been top scorer since he joined the club and has been absolutely outstanding, scoring this season too! Corey Whitely is also very good, chipping in with goals, and Marcus Dinanga, who signed from Gateshead with a good goal-scoring record, is one to watch this season. The squad is very well-balanced with experience, young talent, loan players, and some Bromley stalwarts who have worked hard to get into the league. What is Bromley’s preferred formation and style of play, and how do you think Notts County can counter it? This is a bit tricky, to be honest, although some Bromley fans might disagree. I don’t think Andy Woodman has finally found his best starting XI just yet. Obviously, there are players like Cheek and Webster who will always start, but other players come in and out of the side partly due to the injuries and suspensions this season. It was interesting the changes that were made for the EFL Cup match with Cambridge. The team had been rotated, so many squad players started and played really well. This has given Manager Andy Woodman more choices. Bromley like to play an attacking style with high pressing. They will expose opposition defences’ weaknesses, especially down the flanks. Hayes Lane has become a hard ground for away teams due to this. Notts County are an excellent side and always have a good striker who will score. I’m concerned about Notts County’s attacking options, and I think that alone may well be their biggest strength to counter Bromley. How has Bromley’s manager been influencing their tactics, and what do you think his approach will be for this game? Andy Woodman is always very calm and approaches games with a calm attitude. I don’t know exactly how he will approach the game or who will start exactly. I fully expect an attacking approach against Notts County and Bromley must make chances count! I’m sure Andy Woodman will drum that into the team! Andy Woodman is very influential when it comes to tactics, along with assistant manager Alan Dunn. The club recruited a gamer to the staff who was an expert player of Football Manager! This had a lot of publicity and was a brilliant move by the club. This has resulted in expert analysis of opposition, help with team selection through stats to assist the management team. This is working very well by all accounts. How has Bromley’s form been so far this season, and what challenges do you think Notts County may face at Hayes Lane? Bromley’s form is up and down, but they are holding their own in League 2. Hayes Lane is a very difficult place to come and get a result, even though Crewe recently scored 2 very late goals to win 1-2. Bromley’s home form is good and not many teams get a result there. It won’t be easy at all for Notts County, especially in a tight ground which is the complete opposite of the huge Meadow Lane stadium. I think Notts County will have their work cut out and may find Bromley a bit of a handful, especially up front! How has Bromley’s defence been performing, and how do you feel the game will go against Notts County? Bromley have a good defence and a good keeper. They are quite solid. The only criticism is they can switch off late on. I predict 2-2 and an end-to-end game. Bromley must be very careful of McGoldrick, who is still brilliant at scoring goals wherever he goes! What has the journey been like for Bromley over the past few seasons, and how have they adapted to life in the Football League? Are there any key moments or significant tests that have shaped their experience? Bromley has slowly climbed the leagues to make it into the Football League. They did well in the National League for 10 years but needed to get over the line into the Football League, which they managed. For me, the key moments of recent history have been promotion to the National League, the FA Trophy Finals at Wembley, winning one by beating the mighty Wrexham with Michael Cheek scoring, and of course the play-off final at Wembley and Cheek taking us into the league along with the team scoring the penalties in the shoot-out! The significant tests have been all those things plus coming so close to promotion and play-offs. Everything has shaped the club and players into what they are and where they are now. It’s taken a lot of years, but this small South London/Kent football club surrounded by big London clubs is in the Football League to stay!! Final comments from Chris I think Bromley will present a challenge for Notts, one where I hope our quality in creativity and possession will result in an entertaining game. We shouldn't underestimate our opposition, at home they can be a very difficult team to break down, but if pressure can be asserted and the magpies' play to their potential I do feel encouraged. The Ravens will certainly try to press and counter Notts, they have some very capable players that defensively we must manage, but I feel the game could go either way, with a 1-1 draw or 1-2 win for Notts. I am hoping Alex Bass can retain another clean sheet, but I feel it's likely that Bromley will at least score once. 4. My line-up would be. Bass Macari, Platt, Bedeau Wing-backs: Jodi Jones and Nick Tsaroulla. George Abbott, Conor Grant, Dan Crowley Scott, Jatta -- Scott could be replaced with Curtis Edwards or Grant. Likewise, Jatta could easily be dropped for David McGoldrick. I like Scott behind the striker, playing in an attacking role and preferably less out wide. More, where the actions build near to the opposition's goal. I don't mind McGoldrick drifting further back, but I do think he plays best when shadowing the striker (unless he is the striker) ????
  5. From my perspective, I think I hide well until it becomes too difficult. There's been recent seasons where even going to Notts has been hard, but you can let yourself go for 90 minutes with football and the community side to matches being a good distraction. Unfortunately, I did realise that sometimes my mental struggles can lead to poor decisions, but I do reflect on things and try to learn from it. I practice self-managed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I understand the cycles and how things end up looping back, I find it practical over seeing someone who pretends to understand my issues but draws textbook conclusions. I try to be open, as I acknowledge it does help me but can be branded as 'attention seeking'. When I say, I don't like attention, I really do mean it. Yet, I can understand how it might be received by someone who isn't used to or cares about depression. Unfortunately, I do think it can make you a target with unpleasant people. My encouragement is just to show a little care. I have spent hours observing Reddit, and talking to people who feel suicidal. Often, it's feeling alone which can cause it. I think for me, the thought of losing my mum has effected me for many years and when it happened I sort of did okay for the first few months. Having Notts games helped, but out of season it was like being hit by an oncoming truck. Still, I do feel much happier these days. Last week I had a tough few days, but honestly most have been so much better since I had time to reflect. This isn't aimed at making it about me, I am just trying to share my perspective. I don't like the thought of anyone struggling; depression is awful. We live short lives, and it can be the worst controlling aspect of anyone's life. Potential and happiness can be ruined, but with a little support. It can help someone lost, and struggling to find their feet. Correy Campbell, Tim Arnold, and Mark Dicko have been incredible sources of support for me on Twitter. ????????
  6. If we start off by talking about form and reliability, I think the whole squad at least with the outfield players have the ability to come in. At the moment, the only player who hasn't impressed me is Adam Chicksen. I'm struggling to see where he fits in, but I desperately cling on to the fact he could be pushed to produce the form we had during our promotion winning season. That's been his only real good season, prior to that he looked destined to be released and this is how I feel things look right now for him. David McGoldrick in his current form is making it difficult for him to be dropped, though I still believe we need to carefully manage his minutes. I don't deny he can be a good player, but he does burn out and underperform. We need to maintain his current form and fight, as keeping him on the bench is why he's done so well IMO when he has been started. Jatta, once he returns, might find himself on the bench. The options for the starting 11 could be very different based on who we play, and we are lucky that everyone who has played so far looks just as good to start. Even those who have come on from the bench, minus my earlier exception. It's a very good conundrum for Stuart Maynard to have.
  7. Brazil has struggled for some time to integrate their younger talent, so many bright stars of theirs that have fallen short on the international stage. Defensively, they tend to have very overhyped defenders, but on paper I think it's one of their weakest areas. Their desire to have defenders who are skilful and show flare going forward, comes at the expense of actual defensive minds. Don't get me wrong, they are blessed with heaps of talent but even in goal, they should be better. Some only show "world-class" at club level. Argentina rely too much on the reputation of big talent, at the cost of bring through good youngsters. They have some very exciting midfielders on the fringe of international football, but haven't quite given any of them a fair chance. Still, I am surprised to see them lose in the qualifiers.

  9. It's a good read, which highlights how good things are right now at Notts County. Meadow Lane glows in the writing as somewhere people can truly enjoy watching football, and for me, I think this reflects on the gate attendances. Every game I am meeting someone new who tells me that they have decided to come because they are not able to watch much football. The spirit amongst our fans is captivating, and the football is the icing on the cake. I met a bloke who told me he had travelled from Newcastle this past Saturday, with a very thick Geordie accent. He told me that he's a Newcastle fan, but has found travelling to watch other clubs more interesting. Even this week's "Opposition View", highlights how lower tier football is attracting fans from the top clubs. Tom Reed did well highlighting why fans feel more connected to a club like Notts, rather than Newcastle United's or Arsenal's. Football really should be about the fans, clubs should treat every fan the way we treat our clubs.
  10. I don't think some players can change positions as easily as people think within football, Cedwyn Scott before signing for Notts was a predator and deadly finisher for Gateshead. He had formed a formidable partnership with Macaulay Langstaff. It was from speaking with @ARLukomski, at the Alfreton friendly two seasons ago when we first signed them that I went back to watch Gateshead highlights. He does a good job in midfield, but playing someone out of position can throw them off, and I honestly don't believe the injury he suffered last season has helped matters. I'm hoping we can learn how he's doing in the Bromley presser.
  11. I'm really hoping that Notts can continue the current form, Bromley can be defensively good but are quite inconsistent at the moment. I think the approach has to be on recovering the ball and protecting Alex Bass. I hope Jatta can at least make the bench, though David McGoldrick is in good form, which is hard to see him being replaced in the starting line-up. Provided the back three consists of Jacob Bedaeu, Matty Platt and Lewis Macari I think we'll be solid. It would be nice to see Nick Tsaroulla more involved in the game. I think he balances his duties really well, but could make a difference out wide. I am really hoping that Jodi Jones can come back in, I don't think we need to rush Dan Crowley - I don't know if it's true that the pair had a "bug" or a "niggle" but I think Crowley could come on later in the game if he's feeling well enough. The need to make changes isn't strong, so I would hope Stuart Maynard avoids making too many changes. It's impressive just how settled the squad is looking, each game you can see further signs of this and how nice would it be to retain another clean sheet away from home? I think there's a strong element, not just from Bass to avoid conceding but the whole team.
  12. Following this goal, Adam Coombes became part of the Bromley team. 15 appearances and 1 goal for him at Bromley.
  13. It's a great bit of information, and I do love seeing Meadow Lane busy. We could only dream of this prior to the Reedtz, as usually with AH it was reached during cheaper tickets and not really sustained when it wasn't cheaper. I have always liked seeing Meadow Lane busy, but since COVID I do find it makes me very anxious. It's a small thing to overlook, but I would be lying if I didn't miss the quieter days when it felt more tight-knit. This said, I wouldn't wish for things to decrease, I want it to continue. I just find myself missing when everyone was a face I had seen often, rather than more I hadn't - in comparison to the mental side of it. It does show we are heading in the right direction.
  14. Essex reached 457? That seems like a very respectable score to have. That said, I don't know what games are usually won by but from the limited knowledge I do have. It does seem a comfortable amount to have in a cricket game.
  15. @Robbie Outside the penalty area, such as longer distance efforts, would be nice. Though, David McGoldrick is ticking this box from just outside the opposition's penalty area. The main thing is scoring though, but I would love to see some belters from distant and during cover routines.
  16. @liampie It'll pass, it's just frustrating. Thanks mate.

  19. I've always enjoyed catching up with Julie and Jean; they're both great fans. Jean sure is brilliant. I hope you do too, @Fan of Big Tone. ❤️ --- Update: I'm currently working on the Link Tree feature and page. There are a couple of very minor bugs, but I am delighted with it. On to the content for now. ????
  20. I honestly don't know how match fixers can continue to have a career in football; I wouldn't want them at Notts. I think it's graceful when you put cheating ahead of your own talent, it's the easy root to try to get money, but it's more honourable to earn it perfecting your craft. Del Facey ended up in trouble for match fixing, there was another ex Notts player too. I know, Cristiano Montano did, but it's not him I am thinking of. it's someone else from the period when Facey was here.
  21. Annoying, yes! Funny too!! It's very daft, but it's not the worst sending off I have seen. When Jake was playing for a Sunday league team, some joker was being an idiot towards him. I asked him to stop from the sidelines, he was smug, I told him to cut it out and that it wasn't productive to make such comments about a teammate who is new to playing with the group. Then another player of Jake's team, came running over to me and threatening to knock me out. ???? Referee gave him a straight red, said the player blamed me, but it showed how smart he was. 100% his fault, as banter is one thing, but this situation wasn't that. That's by far the stupidest sending off I have seen. Unwarranted, and obvious outcome. I should have had the team was being thrashed too. I regret upsetting Jake, but I stand by my actions because I wasn't aggressive or rude.
  22. Both are great lads, who I hope start to show their potential and manage to come up the level in which they are currently playing. They could be useful players in the National League given the time. They join Shaun Brisley at the club too.
  23. He should do well with them, sometimes there are good players who only excel with smaller clubs or teams with lesser talent in them. It can help lift performances of the likes of Will Randall, when they have the focus and if they don't get it at clubs it can lead to a less focused showing. I mean this with no disrespect, but I believe he's one of those types who like to carry a team and be the main focus. I do find it a bit funny that it's taken him so long to find a club, I wondered if he would return to Sutton United. Very average player for Notts, one who looked to have the quality but not the interest to perform well enough to be starting or getting minutes on the pitch. Which, it's a real shame as we offered a platform to head in the right direction with his career.
  24. I would agree, it's just a tough start. I see them being about a mid-table team, so I am sure their results will pick up. I just hope it doesn't mean that Derek Adams gets the push, because he is more than good enough to turn things around given the time. Morecambe have had some good seasons in recent years, but they just need to pick themselves up and look to improve in time. Losing key players is never easy to bounce back from, but for a club of their size they are worth wishing the best to.
  25. It was great to see Jim and his son back at Meadow Lane. He'll always be welcomed here, and he gave us so much more than some fans realise. I felt pleased to see him being acknowledged more respectfully, as earlier last season there were a lot of disrespectful comments about him being past it. He proved himself with good performance over time, especially when the team struggled. He's a real modern day legend! Someone who should be held with higher regards than Michael Doyle.
