  1. Not that anyone would believe this, I am sure, but I was a very fussy eater - I still am to some degree. I love potatoes, they are easily in my top 3 favourite foods because you do many things with them. Mashed potatoes are absolutely the most incredible thing ever! I have always liked carrots. For some reason I think baby ones tend to taste nicer, but I haven't had them in years. I used to feel disappointed when @super_ram would put swede in his mash. If anything green touched my plate as a kid, you would consider yourself lucky if I touched anything. Now, I like virtually them all. Peas, runner beans.
  2. The board may request that we try to play 'pretty football', but I don't think it will be enforced. We started last season off well, playing some good football and to the mid-point, we were scraping results. You can only make suggestions to a manager/head coach on how the team performs, but the main thing is getting the results. Although, I do think playing good football is better than winning ugly. Notts will have a vision of what they will expect and want to see under Stuart Maynard, but his approach and focus will be more on training and match preparation. Getting to the point of handling tactics, with the vast majority of demanding tasks falling on other peoples shoulders. Managers like more control, whereas coaches enjoy getting stuck in with training and motivating the squad. I would suspect that Richard Montague is more involved with many aspects of the day-to-day operations, and not just the recruitment. Just behind Joe Palmer and responding to the Reedtz brothers. Although, I think the Reedtz are more over watchers and quite happy to allow their staff to run the club.
  3. I know it's just a friendly, but I would like to see a settled squad take part in the first half. Introduce some of the other players and youngsters in the second half, it would be a shame for them not to be involved. I think from a prospect of starting a strong squad, it would give them a good insight into where we are - whilst allowing travelling fans to feel like we are taking the friendly a bit more seriously. Although, friendlies are friendlies and nothing more. I do believe it would lift morale and give those expecting to start some form of push as we continue our pre-season. Revert to trailists, and mixed sides after.
  4. @Wheelbarrow repair man: Where you type your comments, you should see a paper-clip icon. Drag an attachment into it or choose to upload a file. Once uploaded, you will see a + button to add it to your comment. (Same for mobiles and handheld devices, it's just a little different) Alternatively, use https://imgur.com/ Then click the embed options, copy the URL and paste that into the text field followed by enter (it can do it without but might take a bit longer).
  5. A quick google into that shows: Which explains why I recall seeing pictures of the crown on older England shirts. Our very own, Tommy Lawton wearing a shirt with the original logo (featuring a crown at the top of the lions). It's funny what you remember when someone points it out, as I wasn't sure when it was removed from the football team logo. Yet, I do recall seeing it. Personally, I like the simplified look.
  6. Lee Carsley is the only real candidate I am bothered about, Eddie Howe should be left to continue with Newcastle. If he can gain a bit more experience, he would be a good choice. The rest of the English managers are lacklustre, Graham Potters shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the national team. He's not the answer in my humble opinion.
  7. Outside of football, this is by far one of the best logos. The Rose is a very British symbol.
  8. His move to Meadow Lane has been a revolution, as he did ignite our push to get back to winning ways. He's a calm striker, who has a lot of strengths, from his pace to the finishing ability we have seen. I think he would thrive being played more, as his height gives us something we can use to hold up the ball. Playing Cedwyn Scott off him, could be a good partnership - especially if we allow them both to play somewhat freely in attacking roles. It amazes me how Jatta manages to retain the ball when marked by two-three defenders. He naturally attracts them and somehow manages to do something with the ball. When I first saw him, I thought he might be a bit awkward on the ball due to his height, but appearances means nothing. He's got natural ability and an eye for goal.
  9. @ARLukomski.... So far, I would go for... Bass McDonald, Bedeau, Platt Nemane Jones Robertson Palmer <-- Crowley ->> <<- Scott ->> Jatta Wing backs: Nemane and Jones. Robertson acting as the defensive cover and anchor, Palmer (when fit to get us moving forward). Crawley and Scott to operate within the attacking midfield zone. Jatta as the lead striker. Bench: Slocombe, Macari, Tsaroulla, Gordon, Austin, Edwards, McGoldrick.
  10. Personally, I think it's a culture and chance issue. Notts is in a position where it's ambitious, and it might be seen as a luxury to play a youth prospect or young professional. I have been very critical of my disappointment regarding this over the years, as I have seen enough wasted talent. If Stuart Maynard could be bold enough to ensure that the likes of James Sanderson managed to start at least 12 games this season, even if the majority were low-key cup games, it's still vital minutes which lead to experience. Experience which isn't always gained by going out on loan, this is more clubs hoping to excel the progression so the young player(s) are near to the first team in terms of footballing minutes. Without really committing, we'll never know if any of the youngsters before their release if they will reach the ability where they can become a strong first team candidate. Our academy is very good. I have seen training sessions before the issues under AH, and I am sure it's returned to that level, if not better under the Reedtz. The thing is, the majority of fans say they want to see youngsters given the chance but quickly turn against the idea. I have seen no end to promising players falling to criticism whilst they are learning. It's not productive, especially when it's over critical or directly put to them. At the same time, due to the pressured environment managers are less likely to give youngsters the chance because it could be them that ends up being fired if results don't go their way. Crewe Alexandra have a decent youth setup, as do a few other clubs, where players are given minutes and nurtured. Notts must start giving them better opportunities, and because it can work, the pay-off is highly beneficial. Especially when players start performing at a higher standard than what you are playing at.
  11. Well, students could find them, and it's not a safe idea to combat mass shootings with more guns. What would be a better solution would be to make sure that school had appropriate security. Schools in the UK look like prisons, whereas in America they look like nice normal places. The UK goes overkill on the security side, America thinks the only solution is having more violent weapons at hand. Another issue is that school shooters may decide to target meeting points or other venues if schools do manage to cut down on guns/weapons getting into them. The problem just doesn't go away. I do find it curious as to why we don't tend to have violent crimes in schools. It's a good thing, knifes are such a big issue in the UK. Whereas in the United States it's more guns.
  12. If we can make some more solid signings, I see no reason why we couldn't compete for an automatic spot but if the squad remains like this - I think playoffs would be more likely. We have the quality that could potentially do better, I just think without that extra depth we may struggle at times like we did last season. This is the season where we need to go further and try to secure a playoff place or higher. Should we fall short, I wouldn't be that disappointed provided we gave our all and that we finish higher than we did last season. Progress can only be made by challenging ourselves to go that extra bit further.
  13. Marc Guehi deserves to be named; he played far better than Kyle Walker. Walker had a good tournament, but there were elements of his game where he wasn't at his best - at 34, you expect this. Marcel Sabitzer and Georges Mikautadze would have made my team of the tournament; both players did well for their respective countries. Spain had a very good campaign, but some of their players are only being named because they made the final and won. Some did well but don't deserve to be selected ahead of others.
  14. I haven't really done anything outside since Sunday, but I feel good, which is a nice thing. I have been working on PON, going through my list of things to do and generally trying to keep things well maintained. Tomorrow, I will be allowed out for some time and I will be on my best behaviour. Cheeky needs to look for a few things and so it means I get to accompany her. It's nothing special, but I do like getting out when its possible. I keep trying to talk Jake into having walks, but he's unwell himself at the moment.
  15. I have seen the footage numerous times. When I was younger, I felt amazed when I first watched the game in colour. As all the footage before was shown in black and white. Here's a great read about what happened to the shirts after the final whistle had blown - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-63703479 @super_ram likes to tell me, that England lost to Scotland in the very next game after the World Cup final. ????
  16. I agree, it's a step too far to charge parents of a mass shooter with manslaughter. It's a worrying aspect, as a lot of people own guns, and they're a common place in America. I understand that parents would want to teach their child to safely use a gun, but it should be difficult for them to get hold of It's easier said than done, because it could have been a machete or knife. My friend, who is a teacher in Kansas City, posted on Facebook about how encouraging teachers to have a gun themselves for safety - in case of these incidents occurring - would only lead to further issues. America doesn't focus on the actual problem; they overthink it and come up with stupid ideas. Mass shootings are awful, and I know Steven King has felt responsible for his book 'Rage'. The way things are going, he was right to allow it to fall out of print because he could end up with silly charges brought against himself. This said, the parents should be held responsible as mentioned by @Robbie.
  17. Such a cool 'old school' styled stand. The arched middle part, at least, inspired the rebuild of Meadow Lane. That's such an iconic part of the Meadow Lane stadium that it wouldn't look right if it hadn't been. I also find it fascinating that it was delivered by floating it over the River Trent in 1910. I just couldn't imagine a stadium being dismantled and transported like that.
  18. Great video! Very funny that neither animal detected they were being watched/filmed. It caught something that you might not get to see otherwise.???????? There's a squarrel that lives near my home, which is very funny. It does lapse of my front fence as part of its exercise, almost as if it was like the TV 'Wipeout' but without the water. One time it was doing it, I was sat in the living room looking out at the front garden and noticed there was a black cat stalking it. The Squarrel didn't bother, it just continued doing a circuit of the fence. The cat thought it was being clever by climbing the fence which is to the street, it was acting like it was just minding its own business. The Squarrel continued to run round the fences and along the front of my house, as it approached the cat, the cat jumped into the front garden again acting as if it was doing its own thing. The moment the squarrel reached the point where the cat had been, the cat jumped up and squarrel had reacted ahead, pushing itself up right and performing a martial art kick which would have been befitting to a scene from 'The Last Dragon'. It stunned the cat, and it flew off the fence. The Squarrel remained in an alert position but soon went off. The cat eventually jumped back onto the fence and acted like its pride had been hurt. ????
  19. Personally, I think Gareth Southgate did the right thing by stepping down. He's done well in his role, but the division between England fans and this past tournament performance despite making the final just hasn't been to standard. I would have been happy had he decided to remain in the position, but I think he knows that not all of his ideas on what makes England click are right. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the attitude he has had made him feel he needed to step down on a high. It's sad, because some of the nonsense directed towards him isn't needed. Using sporting events as a reason to give another human abuse is just outright wrong. Unfortunately, it leaves me feeling disinterested and of the belief that the FA will struggle to find a suitable appointment that will please the majority of England fans. It's going to be a tough task, Lee Carsley wouldn't be a bad call, but I don't know much about his style of management.
  20. 1999-2004/5 I was very England focused, more so than Notts. It was difficult after my grandfather died to get to Notts games, still at school. I mostly checked on scores for Notts, but I wasn't as focused on them. I would watch Match of the Day religiously, and it was something we did as a family. Admittedly, I was still very much into Arsenal at this stage. So, England was an easy way to watch football, and we had big names that gave me the hope that we could do well in a major tournament. Not that the golden generation ever delivered this, but it was great seeing the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Alan Shearer etc. I used to also always wear my England coat, and/or shirts. Now I am more focused on Notts, as I have aged I realise that football is more enjoyable to have that belief but to find more enjoyment from league football. So, I would choose Notts easily over England, but I care about them both.
  21. We just ignore them; it's very annoying. It's also horrible to do, as I briefly worked for a windows' company that used to send groups of 5–10 people out into areas trying to sell windows and doors. My parents had new windows themselves and the person handling the sale, ask @GrannyPie if my brother and I had jobs. It's by far the worst thing, but if you have the knack of talking and confidence, then it can pay very well. I don't waste my time with cold callers, or those people approaching you in the streets trying to sell stuff.
  22. Good luck to them with the upcoming season, I'll be keeping tabs on them and hopefully helping to spread awarness as suggested.
  23. I liked Darren Caskey, fans more knowledgable of his time at Notts always make me laugh when they tell me about him. Though, I thought he was a good footballer. I can't say I have seen him play for us many times though. Also, I remember this but never really dived into it.
  24. I think it was Russell Howard who joked about this awhile ago, when it was being reported. It's a silly thing to do, which issuing a ban is the right thing. Officials aren't there to be part of the celebrations or to even be in any sort of spotlight. There have been referees and assistants who have asked players for selfies, this is also something which shouldn't happen during officiating games. Fans need to be able to trust that there's no unbiasedness and act professional.
  25. Amazing location and design of the stadium, but I do echo the comments about traditional grounds like Goodison Park being missed. Imagine watching a night game in the Premier League. It looks amazing!
