Childhood food memories
I can remember my mum's Spaghetti Bolognese I think that was a staple of the 90s&00s. She used to finely chop carrots and peppers in hers to add more veg without me noticing! Sheppard's/Cottage pies too, again with the added finely chopped veg tactic. Sausage and mash was probably my favourite meal though, with proper thick gravy. Chicken Kiev's felt like another food of that time period, I haven't had one for about 10 years now!

14 Summer Signings. Who's made the biggest impact?
I think there are four very obvious stand out choices in Bass, Bedeau, Platt and Abbott. All have featured a lot and played very well too. I think Tsaroulla is a good player, but heβs not quite clicking for us in the final third. We play him like he's Jodi though and I don't think that always plays to his strengths. Gordon is a bit 50/50 for me, possibly being played more on the left isnβt helping but then he played on the right when he came on against Newport and looked average. Could say the same about Jevani Brown, heβs not been terrible, but no goals or assists in the league is poor, especially when you consider his position. Hard to say much about the rest due to not seeing enough of them. Hinchy looks like a player whoβs played a lot of academy football, technically good but a touch off the pace at times in a proper competitive game. He is young and will improve. Edwards was very lively and good on the ball, I liked him when he played just behind the striker. Grant is like an attacking midfield version of Matty Palmer, doesnβt ever really give the ball away and just links play up nicely. Ness has performed well in recently and McDonald looks more than capable from his limited appearances too. Cundy is possibly a tad unnecessary now, heβs not mobile enough to play in the RCB/LCB roles for me. He is only on a one-year deal, we might even let him go in January. I expect Martin will go in January though as his contract expires then. I think he doesnβt start at wingback because he isnβt trusted defensively, he is more attack minded but the fact weβve struggled for goals recently and havenβt bought him on is pretty telling.

Steve Cooper sacked
I agree that there was always going to be a biggish section of Leicester fans who would be against Steve Cooper regardless as to how he performed. I'm not quite sure what the expectations were though, avoiding relegation would have been an absolutely fine outcome to this season. Their defence is poor and they are still over-reliant on Jamie Vardy, I think Steve Cooper was performing as expected. Everton and maybe Wolves aside their isn't really a host of bad Premier League teams anymore. Relegation now is almost just a battle amongst the newly promoted sides, with one hoping to stay up.

Carlisle Utd, a year under American owners
Some things that stick out for me in that articleβ¦ βManager Paul Simpson survived relegation but the club hero was sacked in August after four games following a bad start in the division belowβ Anytime a manager gets sacked 4/5 games into the start of the season it is dreadful management from the top. Carlisle have basically wasted a whole pre-season, not only will Paul Simpson have spent all summer coaching his players how he wants to play, heβll have bought specific players in for that system. The lack of foresight and planning is dreadful. Players brought in: 22 Players moved on: 16 That is a very high turnover of players, Iβd like to know the last time a team turned over tons of players (without being able to spent a fortune!) and was successful β it was a hallmark of Notts many seasons ago and unsurprisingly we were constantly fighting relegationβ¦ "The Piataks wants to make Carlisle a real, well-run and sustainable Championship clubβ And there you have it, the dreaded βChampionship planβ. Everything will be alright when we are in the Championship, inflate in the expectations of your fan base whilst making promises about something that is very hard to achieveβ¦ Worry about trying to stay in the league and becoming a competitive League 2 club first. I think Carlisle will do well to stay in League 2 this season, they were poor defensively and weak in attack when they lost to us. Morecambe are down there and as much as I donβt like Derek Adams, heβs a savvy manager. Accrington have unexpectedly gone on a bit of a run and given themselves more of a chance of staying up. Swindon look in real trouble too, I saw Ian Holloway saying the reason for their troubles is that their training ground is βhauntedβ. Fully expect to hear that thereβs some strange magnetic field at Swindonβs ground that is stopping them from scoring soon! Still, I think Carlisle ranked quite highly in the best run clubs feature that someone posted on here a few weeks ago. We could offer to switch, but they wouldnβt want the 22nd placed Reedtz Brothersβ¦

Who is your Man of the match v Newport?
I agree with @Robbie, all the back 3 had good games. Ness did well coming in, Platt solid as always and Macari moved over to the left but didnβt look out of place at all. My only caveat is that Newport didnβt really commit many players forward though, so it was always very manageable for our defence. Not much between Palmer or Abbott for me, other than Palmer looking a bit dead on his feet by the end of the game. So Abbott just shaded it for me too.

January transfer window recruitment - Wingers/Wing-backs
I agree about adding another wing-back and I think Iβd be looking to add someone more in the mould of Nemane. Matt Ward possibly, Iβve not seen him play and I think youβd have to be a clear cut above National League level to step up and do well for us in League 2. And I like Anthony Forde, not quite as quick but the guy was and probably still is League 1 standard. The money was clearly the pull that got him to Wrexham, would we be able to afford him? Kavanaghβs numbers make him stand out but Iβm never quite sure of the standard of the League of Ireland and how it compares to the lower EFL Leagues. I remember Andre Wright was on trial for us (when we were in the National League) after getting in the LOI team of the year. We didnβt sign him and he went to play for Ayr United and then Telford and didnβt score for either of them. Obviously there will be players good enough to play League 2 but itβs about spotting the right ones.

Match Discussion: Game 17 - The Exiles (H)
Weird game, totally dominate and although we had 20+ shots we never really forced their keeper into a great save. And some of our shooting was really bad. The fact Jatta, our centre forward, only had 2 shots is also quite bizarre. Brown probably had the best chance first half when Jatta headed it back to him and he completely scuffed the ball from about 8 yards out, he should've scored. Second half Macari is unlucky that his header didn't drop in and Didzy had a decent chance again from a corner. But every other shot was pretty poor. I think a lack of quality with touch of slow attacking play did for us there. We pressed well against them and robbed the ball off them quite a few times but nothing ever really came of it, when it probably should. Teams used to punish us for that last season and we shouldβve done it to Newport today. But at times I feel like we are so married to our patterns of play, when a half chance opens up to go forward, we donβt. Instead, we play safe because we are waiting for certain players to get into certain positions before we attack and then Newport can have a breather and get back into position. I think we are crying out for some pace. Not only do we need to attack quicker but a player or two that can break the lines more and cause more of a threat in behind would be helpful.

Dennis Gyamfi to Notts?
I don't think he would be classified as an overseas player, from what I can find he did grow up in England (living here from the ages of 7-18) so that might be enough and if it isn't he came through the English academy system. A βHome Grown Playerβ is defined in the (Rule 33.8) as a player who: Irrespective of their nationality or age, has been registered with either: their current club (who is a member of the EFL); and/or a club and/or any other football club affiliated with the Football Association (βFAβ) or Football Association of Wales (for example, EPL or non-league clubs) for a period, continuous or non-continuous, of three seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which they turn 21). Basically a player needs to have been in an English Team/Academy for 3 years between the ages of 15 and 21. He spent 4 years at Leicester, leaving when he was 18. So he'll have had the 3 years.

Match Discussion: Game 17 - The Exiles (H)
Jatta and McGoldrick both go straight in for me and Crowley too if heβs fit. It does slowly start to feel like we are becoming very reliant on those 3 players and thatβs not a good thing. I feel like Brown is at a bit of a crossroads now, I thought after Alfreton heβd kick on, but heβs still yet to score or assist in the league. Sam Austin also has the same issue. And I still feel like Iβm yet to see the best of Gordon, and whilst Tsaroulla looks promising heβs still only provided one assist... Defensively I feel we are a lot more solid, but is that now coming at a cost to our attacking play? We are really struggling in an attacking sense (outside of Jatta, McGoldrick and Crowley) our other attacking midfielders and wingbacks, whilst having had more game time recently, have struggled to have much of an impact for me. That first half against Crewe, in an attacking sense, was probably the worst Iβve seen all season. We need to step it up a bit now. A game against Newport should suit us though, they are one of the poorer teams defensively in the league and one of the worst pressing sides (in terms of effectiveness). And we tend to very well against the lower mid-table sides too. Aaron Wildig has just been ruled out for the season for them and was probably one of their best players. Weβll likely see the tallest man in the world again as Kyle Hudlin (formerly of Solihull Moors) is now at Newport and heβll provide a threat upfront.

Dennis Gyamfi to Notts?
Interesting, I was thinking we are a bit short in numbers in wing-back and he was rated by Leicester when he was younger. Having done a quick search he actually turned down an offer from them and was training with their first team before he left. He then signed for Dinamo, but never played for their first team. Clearly very talented but just hasn't been able to settle at a club by the looks of it. If he's out-performing Tsaroulla and Gordon in our training, he'd probably be worth signing (assuming he is actually training with us!)

Winter matches do you enjoy them?
I'd much rather be watching a game when the temperature is 20Β° and not 2Β°. When it's mild over the winter it's ok, but when the frost covers are just being whipped off before the match with the snow is still lingering around the sides of the pitch I don't enjoy it. I can remember going to an away game years ago, when I was about 15, Shrewsbury v Notts and I was in that "I know better than you" teenage stage. So whilst I did have a coat and hat I wasn't exactly wrapped up because I was adamant it wasn't that cold out... It's quite an open ground at Shrewsbury and there was an icy wind blowing in all game. By the end I was probably just minutes away from becoming an ice sculpture, no idea how I managed to shuffle out the stand. My face, hands and feet were absolutely freezing.

1,950 league defeats
One game closer now! It's a very admirable way of looking at it, to say we have been punching above our weight! No doubt at times we have but also, it does show how for long periods we've just been pretty rubbish.. ???????? Where are the other founding members on that list? Anyone near us? All apart from Accrington who no longer exist are either in the Prem or Championship right now! That's quite depressing in a way, why has it gone so wrong for us! Results have definitely improved since the Bros came in, maybe Grimsby will actually beat us to it!

Ryley Reynolds on loan to Kidderminster
Heβs kind of come out of nowhere, I hadnβt heard of him until he was involved a lot in pre-season and he fared pretty well. Then heβs continued to be in and around the first team this season, without really getting the chance. Playing in League 2 might be tad higher than heβs capable of right now so a move to Kidderminster seems perfect. If he does well at Kidderminster heβll have the chance to potentially stay longer, or even possibly move to a club in the National League. All looks quite promising for him at the minute.

Notts injury watch.
Arguably 4/5 that are injured would be in our starting 11. I also think we are missing Edwards and Grant more than we realise. And to answer your previous question, Iβm more than happy if we donβt reveal our minor injuries. Long-term stuff is pretty obvious but I donβt need a list of who is and isnβt fit before a match. Some teams will focus more on us then themselves when they prepare for a game against us. For example, a team could spend time in training where they focus on ways to cope with Crowley and Didzy. Then it gets to the game, neither are playing, we change things up so they have to adapt in game. That might turn out to be an advantage for us, football is all about those marginal gains!

Match Discussion: Game 16 - The Railwaymen (A)
Frustrating to lose the away record in that way, that first half was probably going down in history for the most uneventful and boring halves until we decided to let them score from our cornerβ¦ I know we are hampered with injuries to our forwards but the 4-4-2 in that first half just didnβt work, especially going forward, only Tsaroulla looked like he knew what he was doing in the oppositionβs half. Two upfront actually hurt us as both Brown and Scott looked a bit lost. I thought second half we were better but after that penalty (where Bogle just tried to do a cut/chop back completely lost his footing and fell into Platt) we just got a bit rocked. The attacking quality just wasnβt available and it really hurt us today. Even when everyone is fit I do think we are crying out for a bit more pace though, especially upfront/wide, we need to become more of a threat in behind teams. 6 yellows, 1 red for Crewe and the ref missed a nasty stamp on Abbott first half - that would've been replayed multiple times via VAR in the Prem... If weβve got out of that game with no injuries weβve done well.

Can Notts Get Promotion in 2025?
Before the season started I was just hopeful that we'd be challenging for a play-off spot, so to have basically been in and around the autos this season has been a pleasant surprise. That said it is all very close, there's only 8 points difference between 2nd and 15th at the moment! So a lot can and will change with 2/3rds of the season left to play. I'm still not sure we'll finish in the top 3, I hope we can and I think it is achievable. We've faced some good teams so far and no-one has really out played us. Also going into the second half of the season we'll have Jodi back, that will be a massive boost.

Notts, the second worse club in EFL2 ... discuss
Notts had been making big losses even before the Bros came in, didnβt Alan Hardy lose something like Β£3million the season we went down? Youβre not going to be able to come in and instantly reduces the loses, especially when youβve just been relegated out the football league too. The key thing for me is that our debts have slowly been reduced, and Joe Palmer has spoken a lot about the aim of getting the running cost to 0 in a few years and that it is achievable. So whilst we still might be making losing we have a plan to turn it around and we're on our way to achieving it. Iβd be interested to see why and how the likes of Chesterfield and Salford scored higher. Chesterfield were in the National League longer than we were and were pretty much run on loans whilst still spending comparatively large sums. And Salford are purely reliant on the money from the old Man Utd Boys and a billionaire! Their 1000 fans arenβt exactly covering much of the costsβ¦ And I agree with others that finances aren't the defining feature of what makes a well run club. Carlisle who are second in that list are nose diving in to the National League and you'd struggle to find a Swindon fan that thinks their club is well run! The Bros have stated on numerous occasions this is long term for them and Iβm certain when they leave the club itβll be in the best place itβs been for years.

Macaulay Langstaff Watch.
I donβt want discredit and diss all the league 2 centre backs but the standard of player heβs playing against will have increased dramatically. For perspective Lee Gregory scored 9 goals in the Championship for Millwall, they were relegated and the next season in League 1 he scored 18 goals. That shows you the difference in quality from League 1 to the Championship is big. Even if Macca isnβt scoring, playing in the Championship will make him a better player. I think everyone wouldβve been slightly surprised if Macca had gone two Millwall and continued his strike rate. Heβs only had 9 shots this season, he probably used to get 9 shots per game with us! Thatβs just how it is at Millwall though. They donβt create many chances and so they donβt score tons of goals. They grind out results, in their last 5 games they havenβt scored more than 1 goal per gameβ¦

Is The Chosen One In Hot Water?
I think he would see himself as far too big to manage a team in a relegation battle. I've seen the rumours about him wanting the Newcastle job, they'd be daft to boot Eddie Howe out for him in my opinion. The only clubs I think would want him are those with more money than sense. Forest wouldβve been likely candidates but theyβre doing well with Nuno so youβre only really left with West Hamβ¦ No way a top 6 club goes near him and the sensible smaller clubs know heβs more hassle than heβs worth.

Four Defeats In A Row For Pep Guardiola
I really would love to see Pep just go rouge after his time at Man City and just pick some random club in a random league just to see how far he could take a team with an ordinary budget. I still think he's a very good coach it's easy to dismiss his achievements because he's always had great squads but lots of managers have managed big clubs with lots of very talented players and failed miserably. The idea that losing 4 games in a row for City is a crisis shows you how good they've had it for years. I fully expect them to go on some ridiculous 12 game winning streak later on in the season!
