  1. I think we definitely need some real competition for Slocombe (assuming he stays), in his four year spell here only Patterson was better. Is Mair the man to do this? Maybe, but the fact he's been here for months and only played due to Sam's injury makes me think maybe not. I like Ashmore from Boreham Wood, but you just know a key attribute for a keeper we sign will be their ability to play out from the back, something Boreham Wood don't really do. Another defender, someone who can challenge Baldwin as I think he is susceptible to the wear and tear injuries of high game time. No-one else in the squad can really do what he does. LWB, Chicksen also needs some competition. Jack Bridge? We made a bid for him in January. A midfielder, and another attacker too, ideally Jodi Jones! I like Sbarra too, but if Ruben stays and we have Austin I think that's a bit overkill for that position. I liked Akinola who Chesterfield have on loan, thought he did well against us but didn't start too many times for them.
  2. Not too concerned to be honest. They’re in a bit of mess for one thing and this Alan Nixon is the only one reporting it so far. His bio, behind a paywall, say’s he’s “Creating football stories”. Maybe it is just semantics but to me creating suggests you make something up. More if buts and maybes rather than reporting actual facts… If it starts appearing on BBC Sport, NEP, Sky Sports, The Athletic etc then I’ll be a bit more concerned.
  3. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure there are a lot of clubs in the EFL that are interested, how many could realistically afford him I don’t know, top end L1 clubs is probably the best starting point. I can’t imagine the club have a set fee depending on what division a club is in. They’ll have a price for him and if that is met, and the player wants to go there’s not much we can do. I don’t think he’ll move on though, we’ve got no pressure to sell him and Luke Williams talks a lot about this just being the start of a journey. He seems very happy and settled here too. And I just wonder if Championship clubs will wait to see how he fairs in league 2 before potentially bidding as I still think signing Langstaff would be a big risk for them given the highest level of football he’s played is step 5.
  4. It might have been harsh but getting Mair on for the pens was fully justified. He just looks more imposing too, he's about 6ft 5" and it must make you think you're going to have to really put it in the corner to beat him! I was looking at the stats for penalty saves before the game, they’re on Transfermarkt, interesting thing about Slocombe his last penalty save was in August 2019, and that’s his only penalty he’s saved for us! He’s currently on a 16 game streak with 0 pens saved (that includes Dallas' penalty from yesterday).
  5. GET IN! What a game, what a way to win. Amazing achievement from everyone at the club! WE ARE GOING UP!
  6. Think I’ve just about recovered after a good nights sleep, just trying to recall the game and even though it was just yesterday it’s funny how in the heat of it all parts of it are just blurs! Going into to half-time I just thought, “no, not like this, we can’t end this season by being s’housed”. We started the game really well but not scoring dented our confidence and Boreham Wood’s grew. I love the guy but Ruben had a bit of a mare yesterday. I think his 3rd chance the one where Langstaff or Palmer, I genuinely can’t remember, lays it off to him I was on my feet ready to celebrate! And I thought his head noticeably dropped after the penalty save, he really didn’t do much in the game after that. Langstaff was quiet but he still had a couple of great chances, he didn’t get a lot of the ball but it’s hard to make runs in behind when you’re defending against a team that sits that deep. Hopefully Langstaff and Ruben are saving their goals for the game at Wembley! What a time for Aden to get his first two goals though, we saw the absolute best of him at times defending one on one against Ndlovu, luckily that lapse in concentration didn’t result in us going 3-1 down but his reaction and quickness got him out of trouble. Jodi Jones helped sway the game in our favour too, very good on the ball and the quality in his left foot was there for all to see. That moment when he scored at the end, that is going to take some beating as a best ever memory for me.
  7. Oh. My. God. I cannot go through that again, that game has taken years off me! Just total relief at the end for me, madness, I totally thought we'd blown it at HT.
  8. They've all contributed fantastically. I think Baldwin has been particularly key to the way we play but Langstaff, just wow.
  9. Our away form was very superb this season. Surprised the Dagenham game missed the cut but I guess the problem is there are too many to choose from. I was swayed by volume of goals...
  10. Tough one. I have three which I really like. The 2 free-kicks are quality, Castro's is probably more impressive but the pressure and occasion of the Wrexham game was huge. I've voted for my other favourite though...
  11. My guess would be Phil Turner. I know it’ll be a player before my time, we’ve only recently had skilful midfielders and the ones before that never won any silverware! I don’t know if he won any cups for a previous club but he came out of retirement after 8 years to come on as a sub for Grantham Town. That is incredibly brief!
  12. We're going into this season's play-offs in very different way to the last two. We’ve never really challenged for the title in those previous seasons, and it was always more a feeling of hope rather than expectation that we could win them. That’s not me saying I’m expecting us to win them (nothing's ever straight forward for us!) but I'm sure none of the other teams in the play-offs are looking forward to playing us. They’ve got to beat a team that’s amassed over 100 points this season if they want to go up. I’ll back us to beat anyone at home, especially with a bumper home attendance. And it's confirmed now it'll either be Barnet or Boreham Wood. Wembley is different though; it’s a big occasion and the pressure of the occasion can get to you. If we get there, we’ve just got to treat it like any other game give our best shot and que sera sera… When we finished third and Harrogate finished second, they beat us in the final and you can't say they didn't deserve it. Hoping for a similar scenario this year! (Second place team winning the final, not a repeat of us losing it!)
  13. Very good news. This has been his best season for us, he’s set himself a high benchmark now though! I think the harder challenge for the club this summer will be finding someone to compete with him.
  14. The legend in his home county and argumentative nature makes me think it could be Roy Carroll.
  15. Potentially lucky not to be 3-3. Without being too harsh, Vincent loses all three of his duals, two for the goals and then the header which led to our crossbar being rattled. I guess equally the defending before wasn’t great either but maybe he’s not a potential fit for that LWB going forward.
  16. Is that a lesson learned there, if we do take Palmer off, make sure we have Bostock on the pitch so someone can play that deep midfield role. Credit to the team for not crumbling though and really pleased for Jim, his second hat-trick and this time there were fans to witness it! I didn’t follow any of the Wrexham game last night, I’d have been surprised had they not won. I’m not sure what more we could have done this season in terms of winning automatic promotion, we’re going to break the record for most points only second to Wrexham now. I just hope we can finish the job in the play-off’s because this team absolutely deserves to get promoted.
  17. It’s a tough choice this season but it’s Ruben for me. Pretty sure he’s got the most assists and pre-assists (if that’s a thing) but what I mean by that is when he threads those balls in behind to Nemane, Chicks or Scott and they usually square it for someone (Langstaff!) to score. His general footballing ability is just levels above the NL. You could see it at the start of the season against Forest, when he’s on it no-one gets near him for me. Lots to choose from this season though, and I don’t mind who gets is as there are at least 5/6 players deserving of it.
  18. I thought Woking’s press was good first half, only problem was their game plan revolved too much about stopping us and they didn’t really have much of a plan on the ball. They put in a lot of good work but as with most teams this year chasing the ball tires you out so as the game goes on we’re always more likely to score/play better. Baldwin back was big, he’s vital in that middle of defence/sweeper position. His pace means no one can really get the better of him. Bostock had a great game too covered a lot of ground and Palmer looked better when he pushed higher in the second half. Deserved goals for Austin and it was good to see Morias get some minutes, he’s got a powerful shot it won’t be long before he gets his first goal. I didn’t quite get the switch of wingbacks either, still don’t think JJ is best used here, it’s a touch of Roberts from last season, given he likes to play as inverted winger where does he fit in a formation that only uses wingbacks for width. Chicksen got into plenty of good positions but had to use his weaker foot, we looked better with a natural right footer there. With the toughest games out the way, this run in feels like a bit of waiting game now. Just no bad injuries in the next two games please.
  19. Ed Francis and Kairo Mitchell are out of contract too. I think both would struggle to get game time next season especially if we are back in L2, so for the good of their careers I think moving on would be best. I’d sign JO’B for another year, and I’d give swimming the Atlantic a go if it got Ruben to stay for another year too! All the others on two-year deals, the only one I’d have to really think about is Vincent. I like him but I think the club will move him on, in the knowledge they’ve identified someone better. He’s left footed and energetic and given the departure of Taylor I get why he’s suddenly found himself at LWB since coming back but could this actually be a role he could flourish in? He’s got all the attributes, given specific defensive guidance and training I think he could.
  20. I’m not just saying this because it suits us, but I agree 3 up 3 down needs to happen now. According to last season’s league table Grimsby were the 6th best team in this league, they are comfortably mid-table in league 2. There is no gap between the bottom half of league 2 and the top half of the national league. And look at Oldham and Scunthorpe relegated out of League 2 last year, one’s mid-table the other’s just been relegated again! If this league was a bad as everyone seems to think that would not have happened. It’ll be genuinely beneficial for teams that do get relegated too, getting back into the league would be a lot easier. Imagine first season after we’d been relegated, Harrogate got automatic promotion too, the play-offs (on paper) would’ve been easier for us.
  21. Yeah the theory is that the universe is constantly expanding. So I guess that means if we are living in an constantly expanding universe eventually, if there are other universes out there, we'll eventually expand into them. Doubt we'll ever able to prove it or find out though. Although I'm sure in another universe Scott’s penalty went in, can the scientists find that universe for us?
  22. Nerves are natural at this stage of the season but pretty much all the squad have been involved in play-off campaigns, they know what it's all about now. From my perspective I'm still weirdly positive. Our home form is very good this season but I'd rather see a team like Chesterfield or Barnet visit us in the first game and have a go. I worry more about teams like Bromley or Boreham Wood, they'll sit back let us have all the ball but then spring counter attacks when we've thrown more and more forward. That sort of game would make me nervous.
  23. I think if we are still in this league next season the chances of him staying are slim, but I'm more than hopeful we'll be out of it and he'll be looking to continue his goal-scoring prowess in the EFL with us! ????????
  24. It’s very marginal and I don’t think the half a yard he gained impacts his ability to make the save, if he had been on his line he still saves that pen. It’s easy to referee the game once it’s over, I watched the highlights back (yeah I don’t know why either) but Wrexham had a few offsides given against them when they were level/just on. I’d rather have the odd mistake over something like VAR in it’s current state…
  25. Pfft… Don’t know what to say after that, just gutted and missing that penalty at the end, that hurt. I’m not going to criticise Scott for the miss, he had to courage to step up in an incredibly pressurised moment but it wasn’t to be. Let’s not forget Wrexham are some team at this level, but that was the one game when we couldn’t afford any defensive mis-haps. I know we play a high line but the pace of the likes of Brindley and Baldwin is crucial to that, especially against the runs in behind and movement of Mullin (a great player who tarnish's his rep with the diving). I think we missed them today. That was the automatic spot game in all honesty, it’ll be some monumental collapse if Wrexham don’t finish top now. This season can still end in promotion for us though. We’ve played in a massive game today, with a lot of pressure and eyes on it. There probably won’t be as much media coverage for the Play-off final. If we get there, maybe in a funny sort of way this game will have helped.
