Chelsea face 74 charges by the FA over Agents payments.
I bet they’ll have to deal with the consequences much sooner than Manchester City. It always seems like the bigger clubs get more time or leeway. It’s frustrating when people talk about making football fair, but teams still get away with dodgy behaviour. The punishments often come years later, when the damage is already done. If the rules are there, they should be followed properly and dealt with quickly. That’s the only way to keep things fair for everyone.

Director of Football: Now You See Him, Now You Don’t
thommo commented on allardyces tash's blog entry in Tune in Next Week: The Ongoing Drama of Notts CountyI’m not sure it matters too much who takes over, as long as the focus is on the basics. Montague understood the squad and signed players that fitted both the system and the league. Since he left, there’s been a feeling that we’ve lost that eye for detail. Gagliardi looked like he wanted to roll the dice with loans, which is fine if you’ve got the budget of a Championship side, but we need stability. It doesn’t mean the season is doomed, but it does explain why things have looked uneven so far.

Should Notts Skip the German Tour Next Season?
Yes, @Piethagoram. But I agree that having a prepared squad for these kinds of trips is much more useful. If the team isn't ready, the benefits are limited. A striker won't get better if they hardly touch the ball or have few chances. Playing against stronger teams can help defenders, but it doesn't do much for attacking players. Some of those games were tough to watch. They must have been draining and had a real effect on team morale. Even though they were only friendlies, the frustration would have built up.

Should Notts Skip the German Tour Next Season?
I don’t think it’s helped us this season. There were plenty of things that needed improving, and for some reason Notts never seems keen to host friendly games. Maybe it’s because they don’t expect a big turnout, but I think these short tours in Germany cause more problems than they solve. One issue is the lack of media updates. The media team were clearly travelling and busy, but from a fan’s point of view, it felt like we were left in the dark. It didn’t come across as very open or organised. Better planning would make a big difference. I still believe we need a more grounded pre-season, with more games played at Meadow Lane. It would help new signings settle in and take some pressure off when it comes to building the squad. I was surprised we pretty much repeated the same pre-season as last year, just with different German teams. It felt like a missed chance to do things better.

Martin Paterson Hails Back Line and Second-Half Response at Prenton Park
The first half was fine, but the goal we conceded came from trying to play out from the back. I don’t think we should be passing into areas where the other team is pressing and our players have to chase the ball. It’s something we can fix. Tom Iorpenda didn’t have many options and ended up passing backwards, which gave Tranmere the chance to press. I don’t blame Iorpenda for it. He’s still learning and it was just one of those moments. I was pleased with how we responded. Notts looked confident and clearly better than Tranmere, who only caused problems by pushing forward and being physical.

Superstitions
There are plenty of quirky and silly superstitions out there. When I was a lad, the older men in my family used to say they were all just old wives’ tales. This is an interesting story though, and I was surprised by how good it was to read. It’s the sort of thing that sticks with you.

Match Discussion: League Two - Tranmere Rovers (A)
This fixture against Tranmere is bound to be tough. They're noted for their strong, physical play. Still, it's about time we overturned our recent results. I believe Dennis could be the key player, given his current form. If he manages to penetrate and pressure their backline, we might witness a change in match dynamics. We shouldn't underestimate the power of our midfield either. If they hold strong, they can safely link our defence and attacking play together. Though securing all three points seems ambitious, a well-earned draw would also be a respectable outcome. Let's keep the optimism flowing and support our lads as best as we can.

Match Discussion: League Two - Bromley FC (A)
Bromley should give us a clearer picture of where Notts are at. Their manager is no slouch, he’ll have done his homework and spotted areas to exploit, especially after our recent defensive lapses. Bromley’s unbeaten run speaks volumes about their discipline and structure, so we’ll need to be switched on from the off. It’s not just about attacking flair. we’ve got to tighten up at the back, especially when dealing with crosses. If we’re careless, they’ll take full advantage. The referee’s role could be crucial too, particularly if Bromley look to disrupt the flow with time-wasting or gamesmanship. Still, Notts have the tools to rise to the occasion. The squad's starting to settle, we’ve got options to stretch their defence. Bromley may have picked up wins against lower-end League Two sides, but they’re not invincible. If we stay composed, move the ball well, and take our chances, we’ve every reason to believe we can get a result. A strong showing here wouldn’t just earn points, it would send a message that Notts are ready to compete with the more organised outfits in the division.

Notts County Cruise Past Shrewsbury Town with First Win of the Season
You could see straight away the energy levels were much higher than last week. The pressing worked well, Shrewsbury kept giving fouls away, and it gave us chances to dictate the play. Midfield ran the game with Palmer holding it together and Norburn putting himself about. Iorpenda had a strong match too, unlucky not to score when his shot was saved. What I liked most though was how the substitutes added to the performance rather than just seeing time out. Grant’s finish was superb, first time and right in the corner, and it capped off what was a proper home display.

Jodi Jones Targets Goals and Promotion as Notts County Prepare for Salford City Test
What I take from this is Jodi isn’t just happy to keep doing what he’s been doing, he’s looking to improve in specific areas. Goal scoring is something he’s right to target because if he adds that regularly to his game, he’ll be one of the most dangerous players in the division. The fact Martin Paterson trusts him to have freedom on the pitch while keeping to a structure says a lot about his football intelligence. Salford will be a good test, but I like the confidence in his words. If the rest of the squad shares that mindset, we’ll be in for a good season.
