I watched the match through the red button on Sky and thought Notts started well. It felt like one of those games where we would score early and then take control. Crewe had a few tidy moments, but I wasn’t worried until they scored from a corner. That goal seemed to unsettle us and change how we played. Crewe had a good spell for about ten to fifteen minutes after their goal. During that time, we looked sloppy and struggled to get back into the rhythm of the game. Once Notts found their footing again, they were clearly the better side over the full ninety minutes. Crewe were physical, with elbows flying, pushing and falling to the ground, but they did offer something going forward. They looked sharp on the counter, and Martin Paterson needs to find a way to help Notts stay solid by attacking more, rather than letting the pressure build through corners. It was gutting to lose to a penalty, especially when we had two clear shouts ourselves that could have changed the outcome. James Golding and Jack Lankester were lucky to stay on the pitch. Golding should have been sent off after three separate offences. He elbowed Scott Robertson, shoved Jodi off the ball, kicked him on purpose, and pulled Alassana Jatta’s shirt so hard he couldn’t move. The referee saw it was a foul but didn’t show a card. Lankester also hit and kicked Robertson, then tried to make it look like Robertson was the one at fault. I hope Notts reports both incidents to the FA. Positives: Good performance away from home Tyrese Hall is starting to settle in Jodi looked back to his best Nick Tsaroulla scored a brilliant goal Notts played the better football overall Negatives: Gave away a soft penalty Lacked sharpness in front of goal Poor marking for Crewe’s first goal Slow to respond after conceding early on
