  5. I belong to the old school of thought. A Head Coach should have plenty of input when it comes to recruitment. A good Head Coach will have a good idea what kind of player that he wants to build a successful squad. A Head Coach at Notts will be aware of what the owners want regarding the playing style & the Head Coach should know lots of players around the Country & I think that it is vital for the Head Coach to be involved in recruitment discussions. For all said & done the Head Coach picks the starting 11 & 7 substitutes for every match. We have already seen that the last Notts Head Coach didn't play players that for ever reason he thought weren't up to it. It is vital that every player in the squad, if fit, should have a part to play. Modern football is a squad game, & the Head Coach should be able to call on any one of his players to do a job for him when they are called upon.
  6. A Head Coach chooses his Matchday squad for each game. Is it necessary that a Head Coach has input in the recruitment process, or isn't it necessary?
  7. Wow @super_ram you are a hard taskmaster. At least I earned two stars 😲 .
  8. He looks to be an exciting signing. He has great potential, he has pace, he's powerful, & it appears he can play in different positions that will suit Notts. I'm sure that Notts will use him as an attacker, in an attacking midfield position & also on the wing. His recruitment fits the Notts recruitment mantra. He is young, has potential, he can be used in different positions, & he's a free agent. Although I'm excited by his signing I would love to see Notts mix the young with signing older experienced players, who I believe Notts need to maintain a promotion challenge.

  16. Nice to see a team winning the Champions League for the first time. Congratulations to PSG on a great performance on the night. I believe the Champions League has been devalued with so many non Champions being allowed to qualify nowadays. I would prefer that only the league winners of each Country's top league should qualify. At a stretch, only the runners up in those leagues should be allowed to join them.
  17. Maynard's record 24/25 Notts were fifth highest goal scorers in league 2 (regular season) Notts conceded less goals than 17 league 2 clubs. (regular season) Notts recorded 16 clean sheets. Notts recorded 20 league wins, 10 of those were away. Notts recorded 2nd best away record in league 2. (regular season) Notts avoided defeat in 32 league games. Notts finished in 7th place in League 2. Notts qualified for the league 2 playoffs. In the past that record would not have justified a manager losing his job. How times have changed.
  18. Lots of reasons why there should be an EFL 3. The National League has a good standard & the top third Clubs of the NL can compare favourably with the bottom half of League 2. Financial turnover is higher in the NL compared to the past. All NL clubs except just four in 24/25 were full time professional. Unfortunately, not all NL clubs grounds are EFL ready. Many will have to upgrade their grounds to hold at least 4K & meet more stringent safety requirements to meet EFL standards. Another issue would be how the extra league would affect the League & FA Cups. Would there need to be a preliminary round for EFL 3 clubs? Yes there may be existing issues to be ironed out, but the prospect of a new EFL league 3 would be an exciting prospect for football fans across the Country. Implementation of three up three down promotion /relegation across those four Divisions of the EFL, (including EFL 3), would be a much fairer system
  19. Looking at his wiki he has had a long career in the lower leagues as a player & manager. One of his career highlights was In October 1988, Belford joined Tamworth and set a club record of 712 minutes without conceding a goal in February and March 1989. He was part of the FA Vase winning team in 1989. Strange that he never forged a successful career in the EFL. Sometimes it comes down to getting an opportunity & a lucky break.
