  1. @Wheelbarrow repair man @CliftonMagpie Exactly, that's why I thought this would be an interesting topic to disgust As an example, we know that Notts used data analysis and statistics as part of the recruitment process. Notts will also have personality evaluations of potential new players & with all this data collected, will then make a decision on whether the player fits the criteria that Notts want in that particular position where the player is needed. I wonder if international teams, like England use similar data analysis to choose the right players to make up an international squad. My guess is, by what I've seen, very little, because it seems to me that the very best players are chosen because they are the best players full stop, & then they are then expected to play as a World beating team. If I were one of those football journalists, I think I'd ask that very question. It would be interesting to see what the answer would be.
  2. "A deep area of low pressure brings unseasonably strong winds for late June to northwestern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland tonight and tomorrow". Looks like there's a weakening cold front that will move across the County bringing some fresher air our way.
  3. Notts resume on the final day on 177/1 lead Somerset by 67 runs Slater is on 70 n/o Stone is 3 n/o Can Notts force a result today,
  4. Can't be his real name surely, sure he would have got some ribbing at school with that sir name.
  5. @Wheelbarrow repair man I've started a new topic that should lead on very well from our discussion here.
  6. International football teams don't play regularly like club football teams do. When Clubs try to sign the best players they usually sign just one or two at a time, so the balance of the side is not really affected. New players attend training and are moulded into the side over a period of time, not always, some are selected straight away, but a side can easily absorb that new player. With the vast majority of international sides, the Manager selects the best players from that Country and tries to mould them into a successful team So can the squad of an international side numbering 25 of the best players be coached & moulded into a great team, with the majority of the work done on the training ground? Or should the manager pick players, that may not be technically as good, but have a great attitude, have great commitment, energy for & are better team players? I believe the latter because at the end of the day, football is a team game & yes, its ok to have a few of the best players to form a focal part of the team, ie, build the team around them, but as I said, superior team players with good attitude, that are of good quality, but not necessarily the best, could be the best option, to mould into a good side to win tournaments.
  7. @Wheelbarrow repair man It looks likely that England will be playing the Netherlands or maybe Czechia depending on results. Those sides are not walkovers by any means. The Netherlands haven't been firing on all cylinders but are very dangerous. The point is, if we can't break a 57 ranked team such Slovenia down, Netherlands, although they finished third in their group, are definitely a step up. If England don't improve from what we've seen, I do fear for them.
  8. Gareth Southgate was upbeat about England's performance against Slovenia after the match.
  9. Euro 24 Schedule for Wednesday 26 June E: Slovakia vs Romania (Frankfurt, 17:00) E: Ukraine vs Belgium (Stuttgart, 17:00) F: Czechia vs Türkiye (Hamburg, 20:00) F: Georgia vs Portugal (Gelsenkirchen, 20:00)
  10. Three good wins for the Brits in Wimbledon qualifying
  11. Your Wednesday Morning Weather
  12. @Wheelbarrow repair man Jack Grealish tearing down the wing, England are missing his passion and commitment as well as his pace and movement. We know it, why doesn't Southgate know it?
  13. @Wheelbarrow repair man And what's happening to Jude Bellingham? He was hardly in the game tonight, he looks absolutely knackered. He's supposed to be our most gifted player. Most of the England moves should be coming thru him. That's what you get after a long season playing for Real Madrid,
