  1. Sunday Afternoon Weather. Southern districts will bear the brunt of the rain through Sunday afternoon, with some heavy pulses at times. Brighter skies and sunny spells for those further north.
  2. After such a disappointing game on Saturday, Notts need to bounce back with a convincing performance against Sutton at Meadow Lane. The key areas again will be in defence and attack. Stuart has to get the balance right between those two areas, which I'm not convinced he has just yet. In addition Notts need to move the ball much quicker and get back to the slick one touch football that has been lacking of late. For this must win game, I would rest McGoldrick & Bostock and replace them with Jatta & Austin in the starting 11. I would put Macaulay as centre forward supported by Jatta, Cowley & Jones. It's time to go back to the point when Macaulay was the attacking focus I would start the game with a back four and have the same shape that was successful at Newport. It is absolutely essential that Notts do not concede early, I also would like Notts to employ the long game much more than they do. I'm hoping for a convincing performance on Tuesday with a 3:0 or 4:0 win, however any type of win would be welcome at this stage.
  3. India v England third day. England are in danger of losing this Test and the series after India took the initiative on the third day of the fourth Test Thirteen wickets fell on a day that proved tricky for Batting with a pitch taking lots of spin. India rallied in the morning and were all out for 307 giving England a lead of 46 on first innings. England struggled in their second innings and lost wickets regularly on their way to 145 all out leaving India with a target of 192. Before stumps were called India finished on 40 for 0, well on their way to their target. England will need quick wickets tomorrow to put India under any pressure at all, otherwise the match should be over some time after lunch tomorrow.
  4. I get your points @Fozzy Notts just don't seem capable with dealing with the high press and this problem has carried on since the last half a dozen games of last season. Teams have figured us out and all seem to play a similar game against us now, and we are incapable of countering it. One way is to go direct but we seem reluctant to do it even though it has worked when we've tried it occasionally.
  5. I agree @Wheelbarrow repair man with most of what you say. We have 13 games left. At a stretch we need 9 wins to have any chance of making seventh place. Personally I think it is unlikely now We need stronger players in this league that can graft, harass and muscle their way through a match, particularly in midfield and the centre of defence. A mixture of muscle and flair is needed. We have the flair but lack the muscle. We also need more height at the centre of our defence, and we have to be better at dead ball situations, corners and free kicks, Maybe a long throw merchant too. I remember how Andy Legg was so dangerous with his long throws. I'd give Stuart till the end of the season because we are safe from the drop. That's a positive. He has shown he is prepared to try different things unlike Luke The owners have made it clear what type of Head Coach they want and believe in, so I think we should trust there decision making. They will know if it's time for a change.
  6. Sunday morning Weather. A chilly but bright start for many on Sunday morning, with some frost and fog around. At the same time, heavy rain and brisk winds will move into the southwest
  7. Time for a plan D. Grind out results and go long. We have Jatta who's big enough and strong enough to receive the long ball, hold up play and distribute it to Jones, Cowley or Langstaff. The pretty football may have to stop for a while
  8. At least Stuart Maynard has a plan B and a plan C, all Williams had was a plan A. I would rest McGoldrick, Bostock and Nemane for the Sutton match and replace with Macari, Jatta and Austin. Macaulay needs to go back into the centre forward position with Jatta and Jones supporting, Macari at right back and Austin, Robertson and Cowley in midfield, with a back 4 in defence. If we have to go long instead of playing out all the time so be it.
  9. Welcome @ShannockPie to PON. You've joined a great community of Notts supporters.
  10. Very dissapointing result today. It looks like Crewe got their tactics and shape exactly right, but Notts didn't have a clue what shape was their best, chopping & changing several times during the match Crewe were clearly the better team today. They used the high press to perfection against us and were clinical on the break. Notts having the majority of the possession counts for nothing if they cannot defend their area when it counts. How many times have we been undone by this tactic this season This performance today just Sums up our season. Joint top scorers in the League, but on the other hand, second worse concession of goals in the League. I don't blame Maynard for our troubles, I blame Luke for allowing the bad defensive play to continue, without doing anything about it. The January transfer window was a lost opportunity too. Looking at the other matches today, many of our rivals have lost or drawn today, and remarkably, we are still in the mix for that seventh place. IN the end though, our defensive frailties are going to cost us this season. A team rebuild is in need for next season, even if this doesn't include Langstaff, Jones and Cowley.
  11. Your evening weather for Saturday.
  12. The Notts side against Crewe today. Alassana Jatta on the bench
  13. Jamie Murray is a doubles Champion again. He and his partner, Michael Venus, win the Doha Doubles Title.
  14. The Afternoon Weather for fans going to matches today. Scattered showers for most today, with a few sunny spells. Some of the showers will be heavy with hail and snow over the highest ground too. Cloudier across southern counties of England and Wales, with showery rain possible here.
  15. India v England Stumps on Day two of the fourth Test. England find themselves in a good position having restricted India to 219 for 7 in reply to England's 353 all out. So England will go into the third day tomorrow leading India by 134 runs with 3 Indian wickets to take. A 100 run lead, if England can achieve it, would be very handy on a wearing wicket.
