County consider ex-Newcastle starlet

Jamie Barlow

Notts County are said to be interested in the former Newcastle United striker Adam Campbell. The Nottingham Post reported on Friday that the Magpies may be willing to offer the 20-year-old forward a lifeline following his release by the Tyneside club.

Campbell was once held in high regard by United but failed to make the grade with the Premier League outfit and was let go by the Magpies at the end of the season.

Campbell had a fleeting career at St James’ Park which was limited to just five appearances after the striker was shipped out on loan to Carlisle United, St Mirren, Fleetwood Town, Hartlepool United and Gateshead to aid his development.

Campbell spent time of loan with Gateshead last term but still managed to bag 12 goals in 30 appearances for United’s under 21s setup and the Geordie-born attacker’s form caught the eye of Premier League rivals, West Bromwich Albion.

Albion offered the former England youth international a trial back in April but the striker failed to make a lasting impression on the Baggies who opted against pursuing their interest in the player.

However the news of Campbell’s release has alerted the attention of County boss Ricardo Moniz who is keen to bolster his attacking armoury amid the injuries to Ronan Murray and Colby Bishop.

It remains to be seen whether Campbell’s ex- Newcastle colleague, Alan Smith, will persuade Moniz to offer the striker a route back into football following the striker’s fledgling career, with the forward yet to live up to his early promise.

Adam Campbell is a player I would love to see Notts snap up, he's a very promising player and I do believe he could offer us something within League Two. Now rumour is, a set of Championship and League One teams are also interested but Adam has agreed to feature in our first pre season friendly.

If I was Moniz I would look at keeping an eye on the interest shown within Campbell.

Described as "one for the future", we will see how this pays off.

all it takes is for him to settle within the right squad and his potential could be met, it would be nice if for once we worked on making futures and helping players reach their ability.

i would also welcome him to our ranks.

I don't think we should worry about Colby Bishop being injured, I do not see him featuring much for us next season.

That said, we do need some good strikers and backup to help out. I do not really know much about Adam Campbell but his record isn't half bad and it might work out playing more regularly within league 2. If we sign him or help him reach his potential those are questions within themselves!

All I know is we dont seem to give the right players a chance.

Perhaps the tag "one for the future" could be wrong? If West Brom felt he could do a job, he might be suitable for our division or the one above. I would not be put off by us signing him, sometimes its gambles and hunches like this which pay the most of.

Good read this, I also do not know much about him but he could be worth the gamble.

We desperately need some fire power up front to give us more options, maybe this lad will fit the bill if he signs.
