Match Report: Notts County Held to a Frustrating 1-1 Draw at Morecambe

I think that Morecambe have to have a lot of credit for executing their game plan perfectly on the day.

They got the early goal then just frustrated Notts, broke up the play & tried to protect their lead & then hit on the break. 

Their physically really bothered Notts, but to Notts's credit they kept plugging away & the Notts defence stood firm after the early concession.

In the second half Stuart's substitutions gave Notts extra impetuous & a touch of class from Crowley with a great pass got Austin in behind them & Platt scored a poachers goal.

Notts are made of sterner stuff this season & a defender scoring for them, then in the dying minutes a points saving clearance off the line by Didzy, demonstrates the character of this team to never give up.

Notts weren't at their best, but they still managed to get a positive result against a team that played very well, considering their league position.

its a little disappointing that it took us so long to get to grips with the game, but morecambe do deserve credit. they made it hard, but we made it harder on ourselves. i think we really need to work on moving the ball forward, where supporting players try to make space. we play far better with the ball on the ground until in a position where a cross can come in.

An overall frustrating game with some bright moments. We were slow off the blocks, allowing Morecambe to take an early lead which set the tone for the first half. The second half saw some positives with Platt's goal and a few close chances. McGoldrick and Crowley worked hard but lacked the final touch. Morecambe deserves credit for their defensive efforts, but we seriously need to be sharper upfront and avoid these scrappy matches. This draw feels like a missed opportunity for us. Let’s turn these lessons into wins.

We knew it would be tough. Morecambe did well, and I accept the point. These games will make us stronger. As people keep saying, it would have been a game last season that we might have lost.

Notts just needs to work harder in these difficult games to ensure we are more involved and quicker to figure out how to make chances. It’s a decent draw against a good team. I think some naturally thought because Morecambe are bottom, we should have steamrolled them.

It was a game of missed opportunities and frustrations. Notts had the lion's share of possession but struggled to break down a resolute Morecambe defence. McGoldrick was starved of support upfront, and our lack of rhythm in the first half cost us. The second half saw some improvement, especially with the introductions off the bench, but it was too little too late. Platt's equaliser was well-deserved, but we could have easily grabbed a winner with better finishing. The foul count was troubling, as it disrupted any momentum we managed to build. All in all, a decent point, but definitely room for improvement.

It was a good draw. I think we have to accept that and look at the positives. We turned what looked to be a defeat into a draw. So, I am pleased we managed to get that late goal.

A frustrating draw indeed, especially with how we dominated possession. What's more disappointing is our inability to capitalise on Morecambe being down to 10 men. The team showed character to come back and equalise, but it feels like a missed opportunity. McGoldrick worked tirelessly, but he simply didn't have the support he needed. The foul count was also alarming and disrupted our play considerably. Moving forward, we need to be more clinical in front of goal and cut down on unnecessary fouls. Still, it's a point on the road and we have to build on this going into the next matches.

There's no denying the first half was poor. Compared to Morecambe’s team effort, we struggled, even though we looked comfortable on the ball. There was no organisation going forward, with players ending up isolated or trying to go it alone. The second half was much better.

I can’t fault the outcome. Yes, the first half could have been better, but it could have been worse. Their goal was a fluke with how it landed. I don’t have any issue leaving with a point, as Notts improved in the second half, and that’s typical of football at this level. If we want to get promoted, we need to be patient and avoid moaning. We should get back to winning ways. Make a point, but there’s no need to be negative.

Very good match report. The officials did give some fouls for needless things, but I do agree we have to be a bit more sensible with how we defend. I think part of it was frustration too, but none of our players looked like they were walking. Morecambe are lucky to have ended the game with 10 men and not fewer.
