Notts County Cruise Past Shrewsbury Town with First Win of the Season

it was a very good performance, with improvements to make but that will come with more confidence. i thought we did very well to create chances and the quality of them made it difficult for shrewsbury town. very pleased with the win, i hope we can move forward from here.

It’s just the result we needed, hopefully this will give the squad the confidence they’ve been sadly lacking when they take on Bromley on Saturday, they will be a completely different kettle of fish.

You could see straight away the energy levels were much higher than last week. The pressing worked well, Shrewsbury kept giving fouls away, and it gave us chances to dictate the play. Midfield ran the game with Palmer holding it together and Norburn putting himself about. Iorpenda had a strong match too, unlucky not to score when his shot was saved. What I liked most though was how the substitutes added to the performance rather than just seeing time out. Grant’s finish was superb, first time and right in the corner, and it capped off what was a proper home display.

It’s important not to get ahead of ourselves, just like at the start of the season. Still, it was a strong showing, and the goals made it a fun match to watch. Notts put in a good shift. Shrewsbury looked like they’re struggling more than we are, which is a positive sign for us, though it’s a shame for them. I was hoping we’d keep a clean sheet, but credit to them, their goal was nicely taken.

Notts could do with some work on these situations. Our positioning wasn’t the best for their goal, but apart from that, there’s plenty to feel good about.

Tsaroulla’s finish was pure class, glad to see him starting.

It was nicely missed by Roos who obviously forgot to dive and then belated did it too late, it was comical. Not long afterwards he did dive at the right time and made a good save from a shot in an almost identical place.

It was great to get our first win of the season. Some of the Notts play was exquisite & reminded me of the way Notts used to play in the National League.

Hopefully, the win is going to give the players plenty of confidence especially the goalscorers. It was a good team performance & several players stood out for me like Tsaroulla, Dennis, Jones & Iorpenda.

It was a positive evening but I do think that we have to guard the fact that the opposition wasn't the best Notts have faced this season, & there were times when Notts gave the ball away carelessly at the back & a better team may have punished them.

But a win is a win, & Notts can look forward to the game on Saturday against Bromley with renewed vigor. They just need to tighten up at the back & stay focused for the whole 90 minutes.

Really liked the balance in midfield yesterday with Matt Palmer sitting deeper. It gave Ollie Norburn and Tom Iorpenda more licence to push forward and they caused problems all game. Shrewsbury couldn’t cope with Jodi pace in the first half, and once Nick Tsaroulla scored just after the break it felt like the result was sealed.

Watched the Shrewsbury goal back several times now.......Roos dives towards the goal bound header but it seems like he didn't stretch out his arms towards the ball.........or are my eyes deceiving me?????

Good performance from kickoff to finish; there will be things that can be improved on, but the focus on the win needs to be the main thing. When the players head into training next, they will hopefully have some pressure off their shoulders and a focus on enjoying playing can return. The first win is always a challenge; now that we have it, they have to focus on passing and continue creating chances.

I think Jodi is worth persisting with in his role; he looked good, and we need to make sure we have that type of quality out wide, as it will free him up. It needs to move forward so that we have players causing problems with their movement, but I left happy.

Thought the defence deserves a lot of credit. McDonald was solid, Bedeau kept things simple and Aljofree not only scored but defended well too. Roos made one excellent save that stopped the game turning at 2–1 and that’s just as important as scoring at the other end. The shape looked right with Palmer in front of the back three and it helped us break Shrewsbury’s play up. Nice to see Gordon and Hall making an impact off the bench as well, as it shows we’ve got options when games open up late on.

The team looked much more settled against Shrewsbury and you could see the work from the training ground coming through. Early goals made a huge difference, and it was good to see us punishing mistakes rather than letting sides off the hook. Dennis is improving with every game and deserves credit.

Second half was professional, controlled and with some nice finishes to wrap things up. The subs did their bit too, especially Grant who took his goal superbly. If we keep that sort of performance level, Meadow Lane will become a tough place for any side to come.
