Notts Retained List : DKE and Lacey go

Well we've not hung around there, that announcement was quicker than I expected!

Kind of felt due to high numbers of contracted players for next season one or two were going to move on. Sad to see them go, both good players but I can see why they’ve not been offered contracts. Some speculation that Lacey is a high earner so maybe we think we can get equal quality for less money, I think a League 2 club will come in for him. And you can never fault Dion’s effort, but with Brinds and Richardson he kind of felt like the third choice. I'd imagine we'll see him next season lining up for another NL side.

This from the statement is interesting;

“As our supporters would expect, preparations for 2022-23 commenced long ago. We have identified the areas we need to improve and are in a strong position to act swiftly.”

Let’s see then…

Also in terms of our first signing my money is on Geraldo Bajrami, if the reporting is true we tried to sign him in January and he is now out of contract at Kidderminster Harriers. 🧐

Understandable really. For all his fighting spirit, DKE had turned into a bit-part player, and Lacey's injury record is a bit of  problem for us. He played 58 games in three seasons for us, and has only managed more than 30 in a season once in his career. And his is a position where you don't want to be chopping and changing too often. He'll resurface in the NL at the very lowest.

Brindley has a contract offer but he won't necessarily accept it. He might also get offers from L2. If he stays, I could imagine him and Cameron moving out wide to make way for a more aerially commending CB pairing.

DKE just never really suited the formation of  back 3 with wing backs:

He's far too small to be playing in the back 3
He isn't capable enough going forward to be a wing-back.

Unfortunately for DKE, his height - no matter how high he can jump - is a major disadvantage in this league.

Really surprised about Lacey. I think he's a great player and whilst he may get beaten in the air, for me he's far better in a 3 than Chicksen or Brindley.

Was a little surprised with the decision on Lacey but as mentioned injury record would have played a part. Would like to see players brought in with the fight and guile to move us on. I think some still see us as a big fish fish in a small pond and while that is theoretically true it has not proven to be the case. Interesting couple of months ahead.

no surprise for me, i think alex lacey could be a good player but at this stage it seemed likely not to be for notts. he was sort of going in the motion.

dke gave 100% and did well, but we needed better.

Still need another three or four signings in my opinion. Tall brutish centre mid, tall commanding centre half, and a target man. The fourth would probably be a keeper.

I think that's what we need to do @Piethagoram. I would keep Vincent as he looked useful last season until Burchnall destroyed his confidence by bringing Brunt in (can't believe he has got a move to the EFL), the rest can leave. I really like Rawlinson as he just doesn't fit with the possession football we're now playing, but I could see a lot of clubs wanting a defender like him. Mitchell and Francis have both been disappointing and JOB is coming to the end of his career, I would also add Taylor to the list of surplus to requirements.

Munakandafa

Adebayo-Baldwin

Baldwin

Bajrami

Austin

Scott

Langstaff

Needs that Neal Bishop type to go alongside Palmer? Will Brooks step up to challenge Slocombe?

Austin is a weird one as he has played most of his career as a full back. Apparently he has been a revelation as an attacking midfielder so I'm interested to see him step up. I'm starting to get a little nervous about this season, but excited as well. The players we are signing look to be a good age with a lot to prove, it is just the fact that they haven't yet proved it at this level (apart from Baldwin) that makes me a nervous.

I'm still waiting for the box to box 6ft+ midfielder that we still need, but we could be in for a heck of a season, or we could be left with a lot of egg on our faces.

i am also getting a little nervous for the start of the season, the players signed seem to be different and most are unknown to me. i am hoping we can make a couple of signings like matt palmer, as this brings a sense of excitement.

i still feel we are lacking a replacement for kyle wootton despite having signed the striker from the league below us.

It looks as though this is now our model for player recruitment @liampie. Sign up and coming players with a point to prove, rather than players on a downward trajectory, which we have been far too guilty of in the past. If you look at it from a sensible head point of view, we have signed 3 members of the National League North team of the season, whilst Bajrami and Baldwin have also been very highly rated by their previous clubs fans, so it looks good business on paper and their wage demands should be lower. The question will still be though, "can they step up a division in class?", we won't know that until the season starts. We still have serious lack of height issues in the squad beyond the backline, which really does need looking at and rectifying.

Omar Mussa left Weymouth today..... Just the robust pacy midfielder i reckon we need!!!

@Fozzy i think signing upcoming players is a good thing, i am just wary that we are plucking players randomly and relying to much on in game stats. i think the old fashioned way would work better, track the players but let the manager sign them after looking into them. its the manager who will see if a player can fit his system, i honestly dont feel the club should have signed anyone before the manager came in.

the head coach role still needs to manage the players at the end of the day.

i think a strong holding midfielder would be a good find if the club can sign one, we have frank vincent who can play with attacking more on his mind and not forgetting ruben rodrigues who will hopefully sit behind our striker(s).

Mussa could be a very good signing, he's tall and looks decent, didn't we track him at one stage last season? We don't sign players just on ability nowadays, his attitude will also be looked at.
