Haynes In The Hole?

If Mac cant play on Saturday, I'm sure Danny Haynes would do a good job just off the front man. He can't lead the line as thats not his style, but sitting just behind a big man and running in? Me thinks it'll surprise a few and work well.

I think he is a good player, who has so far, been unlucky with the formations we've chosen.

I agree he is a good player but we need to play to his strengths whatever they may be and that is for the management to find out. Sitting in the hole could work and I would like to see SD give it a try assuming McGregor isn't available that is.

Haynes can play on the left side, it would be interesting to play him just behind the lone striker (hi o Enoch away). This might perhaps allow us to see two players attacking crosses and exact as adequate cover if we choose to revert to upfront. It wouldn't require a forced substitution, so we might be able to see Haynes in a different light.

When you're on your own it's difficult to be noticed for your work, I don't feel Haynes is poor. I just think there's a mix of things which have stopped him, tactics - form - one striker etc.

We need to start using players though, it's easy enough to stop playing them.

Scary. Haynes ought to put into a hole - he is a complete waste of a shirt. He's hopeless, no matter where he plays because he has limited ability and can't actually strike a ball cleanly!

His main supporter on NCM, Jacob, used to bang on about how effective Haynes could be and how he'll come good. Even he's quietened down a bit of late.

The prospect of pairing him with the equally useless Showumni is mind bogglingly terrifying to me. They are both pub footballers, at best, and our only chance would be that Sheff Utd defenders would be helpless with laughter and that might enable somebody else to score.

Play Murray and Ball, end of story. Neither of them are world beaters but they are a million miles more effective than Showaddywaddy and "Arthur" Haynes.

Stole the words from my mouth. Or the words off my fingertips haha.

I'm willing to be proven wrong, though.

I think Ball is a must up front, with who? Not sure. I dont think there are many great options to be fair.

I'm not convinced by Ball, would rather have seen Haber come back. To say that Haynes and Showunmi are pub footballers is a bit insulting they have made a good career from professional football and you don't become a poor player overnight, Haynes in particular has a pretty good record elsewhere has he not?

Haynes will be Zoko all over again, Enoch is a poacher and we don't create the style of chances which make him effective. He's a tool and a ploy to bring in players around him and we tend to play so our better performers can get the chances. I'd like to see us reflect on team strengths personally, some might agree but I think if we phrased attacks as a team (rather than who's free and in a position) - We might see others play better.

I think Enoch is not as bad as most make him out to be? He started the season well, and then injury hit. He's not a great striker at this level, but he certainly can be useful.

I havn't seen anything from Haynes that suggests he can contribute.

I agree, the injury came at a bad time. He seemed likely to be able to score a few goals this year but we was playing more to his strengths then because he was doing so well.

After he became injured it became - Throw hopes on 'Bell' and pass to the 'wing'. After which McGregor started to find his feet, it became his show but we need to look at bringing this type of attitude out of all our players. I think Haynes is far better than Enoch, though Enoch copes better to being alone and Haynes screams out for someone along side him.

If football continues to become a solo striker game, it will become tiresome.

With previous comments, I don't want to be compared to anyone but I like Haynes - his movements good and he does chase the ball. Sadly he's no engine and tires, so upfront and alone he sticks out like a sore *rse. I think it was Oldham, all did was chase the ball and he did okay. I don't think he's the type to hold up the ball like Lee Hughes did but in a position where we need a strong, powerful finisher (with pace) I think he would do well.

None of these strikers make me feel inspired.  Can't wait to wipe the slate and start all over again.

Well, Tony no. Haynes has been pretty cr@p everywhere he's been IMO. He's never held down a regular first team place for long and he's never scored more than 7 goals in a season! It was a myth put around by one or two folks that we'd made a real coup signing him when, in fact, he's been dumped by every Club he's played for within a relatively short period because he's useless and has an over inflated ego. He is a non League player in waiting, the sooner the better IMO. "Two or three game a season wonder"- and we've probably had those now, so that's him, finished. The bloke's attitude stinks, his reactions, approach and performance against Coventry were disgraceful, he should have been thrown out for that alone in my view. I'll be delighted if he bags a hat trick tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath, if the mood takes him he might put a shift in. The chances are, he won't.

Showumni, on the other hand, is just a joke footballer. The fact that he has made a living out of the game just goes to show how much brute force, strength and physical characteristics can outweigh basic skill in the professional game these days. He has about 2 good games a season and has one or two decent touches in the odd game, the rest of the time he is a total waste of space. How he has survived as long as he has remains a mystery of modern science. Can't kick, can't head, can't play. It may be insulting but it's accurate.

He laid the ball off in one game and someone near me said to his mate, "told you he could play"! Jesus wept, if a bloke who spends all his time for 40 weeks a year training, practicing & playing can't actually pass a ball 2 yards without receiving an accolade for it, then it sums up a lot about today's players. He might knock the odd goal in now and again, it's rare I know. He usually manages to fall over without making contact with the ball at all - well, surprise, surprise, scoring goals is his job, he's supposed to have a semblance of an idea. I know we are used to watching tripe at Notts but why do we tolerate complete rubbish and carry some forlorn hope that a miracle will occur and the inept will be turned into a gem? (As it happens, I think Zoko was a clear example of how to mismanage and mis use a, clearly, talented player. He was good before and he will be good again now he's left. Successive managers just failed to properly utlilise him. Crikey, I'd even take Zoko as a replacement for McGregor today - that is the role in which he excels, not being wasted as a winger or played as a target man/lone striker).

Back to the plot, Showumni is awful, simply awful and he gets well paid for it. In any other industry he'd be sacked for utter incompetence. The fact that people have to pay to watch him clowning around like a new born giraffe really annoys me, you may have noticed that. If he scores tomorrow it will be all out celebration from me, I'll even buy a round! Think my money is safe tbh.

Not sure, unless they were spread over 2 seasons! However, as he has never scored more than 7 in 1 season, so if he got 17 it was probably over 3 seasons! He bagged a few as a youngster there but Magilton used him mainly as a sub and he didn't make too many starts from memory. He then roamed around a bit before he suddenly had a brief purple patch In a very good Charlton side but, as per usual, got dropped - and ended up here.

He was plucked from Charlton's Academy and thought he'd made it when he was scoring for Ipswich as a teenager. Think his head was turned by talk of Premier League Clubs looking at him, he's gone downhill ever since.

My only qualification about him would be that he must have ability, but he chooses to use it sparingly. If he was half as good as he thinks he is the he'd be a decent player. We have not seen him perform properly since pre-season, he scored one cracking goal in a good 20 min spell (was it v Crewe?) and has, effectively, "given up" after that.

From what you saw yesterday, do you still think this could/should happen? Was the fact that he was only a sub mean that he didn't give it his all when he was on the pitch?

Should what happen?

Haynes was inconspicuous yesterday, hardly saw him get involved at all. Personally, I'd cart him off to Orient, tout de suite, if they really are interested.

I personally think Murray should be tried again in the same position, I would also give Enoch the nod. Though I would have Ball as the backup, Haynes perhaps to replace Murray if he tired but I would try sticking with Murray. He's done more than others during his time on the field and he generally looks very mobile, if we hadn't played him yesterday - I think would have certainly missed McGregor.

The lad Murreh for me every time. Oh and Haber has been transfer listed again by Steve n age, so the dream team could be back on.
