Does The Club/manager Really Need To Apologise

I expect Notts to lose especially when not doing all that well, perfect example would be this season. Sometimes teams will play a lot better and exploit a team, though it bugs me that 'sorry' and 'apologies' come rather freely. I've read (and heard) enough to last me for the next 5 seasons. Whilst it's nice to know SD feels bad about it, I don't really want to hear something which means as much to me as a naughty child saying it for the sake of it.

Does anyone else expect to see them or want to hear it?

It could be me being grumpy I suppose, though words mean little in football and it's what you do on the pitch that ultimately matters. So we lost 1-5 or 1-6 depending where you look (even the official highlights have it as 1-6) LOL

Only time I would want to hear 'sorry' is if a player seriously let us down, you calling the fans - walking off the pitch etc. It's not like they stopped playing but they just didn't respond to Walsall's goals.

Thoughts?

it gets past a joke, i have lost count.

we know derry cares, we know the club need us as fans but saying sorry after a bad game do not change anything. he spoke about not making excuses, so there is no need to say sorry.

I think the players and manager should apologise to fans when they have spent hard earned money and the performance is poor, I don't expect Notts to win every match but I do want to see the players trying to win the game and doing their best to affect the result, this wasn't apparent last Saturday so I think an apology is required. It doesn't change the result admittedly but its the least they can do.

Isn't it best for the players to focus on putting right on the pitch though?

I'm tired of reading or hearing it, i expect bad performances and only with time do I see them largely increasing. There's no point saying something for the sake of it, you need to work on the reason why you're saying it. That makes me content enough, I don't want to see 'sorry' being mentioned for the rest of the season. It's getting quite annoying :)

I think it's less what they say but how they say it, and whether we can see them trying harder the next game. It's hard to put your finger on it, but some apologies can seem hollow and with no meaning. A heartfelt apology can help show passion and that the player/manager cares.  Saying that, I agree that saying sorry isn't exactly going to add another 1,000 to the gate

An apology along with a promise that there will be no repeats!

Sorry

How many times now? They are always apologising when they lose badly, but its not going to change or make a difference to the fans when they always do it.

Apologising is good but not always needed in situations like this, its a game lost. Onwards and upwards... focus on the next game not on the last.

I'll go into meltdown mode if I read or hear another NCFC, especially if the worst happens at Preston. I am expecting them to bounce back but if they don't, I won't expect anyone to say sorry.

NO REPEATS OF SAYING SORRY!!! done deal. :D

No need what so ever, yet it does make good reading huh? Along with the message shaun derry sent out today.

I think the apology trend is a bad idea. I can understand if on a cold Tuesday night at the ends of the earth game where away fans had travelled hundreds of miles to get to, then an apology if a 'no effort or care performance' was put in, then fair dos.

After Saturday? Not sure. We were spanked. Yes. Alot of players had off days all at the same time. Yes. I think the work SD and GA have done to make players seem to care and be attached to the club again is admirable, but we all have off days. Lets just hope its not all on the same day again.

The club emails from Shaun are refreshing and I hope he continues to try to connect with the fans. Allen had lots of issues, but nobody could argue he reconnected the club with its locality and its fan base. He did more in his short space for this than most have done in the past twenty or so years.

I hope SD continues in the same vein.

@hissingdwarf what did the email say? Can you add it to the discussion please?

I don't get e-mails from Notts, I'm not one of the lucky one's. :(

The club can't win can they? If they apologise fans say they are fed up with apologies but if they don't they will be castigated for not doing so.

I think that's the problem Tony. haha!!

Seriously do other clubs say sorry? Was it Swindon who did it after being knocked out of the F.A Cup? Rarely should you hear it. The amount we've heard it this season is annoying.

If it was the odd time I wouldn't have an opinion but I get tired personally of hearing/reading it.

Haha! I've tried this, they have my e-mail after all am a ST holder and it's how I was supposed to know when I could collect my ticket but for some reason I'm not included. The media team have taken my e-mail twice and put me in touch with the ticket office but nothing.

If anyone wants to borrow a red marking pen from my work, give me a shout and I'll bring one to the next match for you!

To be fair though its probably easier to pick up a 10p red bic.
