Pop Charts, Xmas Number 1

Featured Replies

Yes, I spotted this during a programme exploring the first two Home Alone films on Sky Max HD. Itโ€™s one of the superior Christmas tunes, so thankfully itโ€™s not any of this trendy modern music.

What was at the top of the charts when it was first released? Itโ€™s before my time, but whatever prevented it from reaching the top must have been a good song.

It was Band Aid.

Do they know it's Xmas

Wham got to number 2 that yearย

I know some people seem a bit baffled by it reaching number one, but personally I think it's a decent Christmas song which should have won it the first time round. Ladbaby and his cringeworthy partner are the worst. Charity or not, those types of songs get the spotlight more due to the willingness of people wanting to help.

Albeit Band-Aid is far more credible with many real musicians coming together, I still think he shouldn't have been included in the charts.

Let's make Mr Blobby and Bob the Builder number one! Oh wait, they did already.

When was the last time the Christmas charts had a few decent songs related to the day? Now itโ€™s all trashy pop and singers who canโ€™t compose songs.

The only decent one I've heard is

Ed Sheeran & Sir Elton John - 'Merry Christmas'

Elton is an oldie & Ed is one of the few excellent modern artists in my opinion.

But these old Xmas songs from yester year keep coming back every year. There is still a big market for them.
