Wimbledon's pitch damaged by flooding

Featured Replies

This will surely cause fixture problems for Wimbledon. It may take several weeks to repair the pitch.Β

The whole pitch may have to be relaid, after the drainage has been repaired to avoid a repeat of the problem.

How does water cause that kind of damage? The person in the video is right; it does look like a golf course. But I am unsure why the damage is only in one area. If it was caused by rain, why not other areas? It could be a natural disaster, or maybe the pump used to clear the water was misused.

Newcastle Untied have donated a large amount of money towards the pitch being fixed, who knew it would cost so much?Β

Β£150,000?? surely it dont cost that much to repair that damage.

anyone want to start a football pitch repair company with me? if that is the price to have a small area fixed, imagine how much you can get to have the whole pitch done. if they are doing it all, i think its wrong to ask people to donate to achieve it when its only a small part.

@liampieΒ Trouble is, the whole pitch may have to be dug up to prevent that sort of damage spreading to other areas of the pitch.

Looks like there's a problem with the entire drainage of the pitch. It's going to be difficult to relay a new pitch or section of pitch this time of year.Β

Wimbledon will have to lay turf instead of seed.
