So Dan Crowley has gone. He's been sold to MK Dons for an undisclosed fee

They have been after him for a while, now they have their man.

I think that Notts still have a chance of getting promotion, but it's going to be harder. I think they should have kept him till the season's end.

I'm sure that there will be much discussion among Notts fans about this transfer and the implications of it.

I think it's very dissapointing he's gone. I don't think he's bettered himself by going to MK.

The players we've signed are going to have to get used to our system & players. It may take several games for them to bed in. I'd maybe put Jodi in the number 10 role for now.

Going forward we have Grant, & Edwards that can play behind Jatta, however they are both a  different kind of player compared to Dan.

Maybe Whitaker can take on the role that Crowley had, but as I've said, he may take several games to get used to the system, & get to know the players around him.

Yes because Jodi Jones (who is actually our best player) hasn't left.

It might allow us to be better in the press and quicker in transitions rather than stalling them. It will also allow Palmer and Abbott more time on the ball and a certain player not getting in their way

It is definitely a blow to lose Crowley but I don't think it will totally derail our season as we still have a lot of very talented players at the club.

Grant and Edwards are the obvious choices to come straight in, but from what I've seen in their limited appearances neither really play in the same way. Edwards looks to be all action, possibly doing more off the ball than on it and Grant is a touch more subtle, he tends to be more about the flicks and link-up than constantly wanting to get on the ball and dictate the play. I would say Didzy is probably the most similar player, in terms of technical ability and how he likes to involve himself in the build up always looking to get on the ball. If we want a like for like replacement, I think he can take that role.

In Whitaker and Jarvis we have two new players who could potentially ease those worries too, but as they haven't played for us yet their current quality and how impactful they can be is unknown. I guess the club are hoping one (or both) of them can have a major impact though and we'll soon find out just how good they are.

Then you have to say Jodi has seemingly timed his return from injury rather perfectly, he's going to probably thrive off being one of our key players again and should provide plenty of goals and assists. We're also a lot more solid at the back this season so that has taken the burden off needing to score 3/4 goals to win a match. In a way, you could argue losing Bass in goal would've been more detrimental to our season.

I could never get on the Crowley train (as i'm sure you're all bored of reading by now!)

For me he had flashes of pure brilliance, but against Walsall in particular we were lucky not to concede after he gave the ball away in some truly favourable areas, it seems every game listening to Stall all you heard was "ball to Crowley" then you had to hold your breath for ten seconds before the inevitable "and given away to [insert team name here] and now they're on the counter!"

I don't think he was our best player, I think the clubs statement speaks volumes about what kind of influence he has or rather has not got in the dressing room "Whilst Dan has certainly been an influential figure for us, following the exciting additions of Will Jarvis and Charlie Whittaker, along with the return to fitness of Conor Grant and Curtis Edwards we have many strong options in his area of the pitch and we're very confident the squad can mount a strong challenge for promotion without him.", that's about as strongly worded as you can get from a club and one which, in my opinion, demonstrates the feelings about him.

Ultimately, he should know his worth, and he evidentally wasn't worth what he demanded during contract negotiations, cracking bit of business for the club, in my humble opinion his departure will cause the defenders to breathe a heavy sigh of relief, alex bass can stop practicing for when Crowleys pocket is picked and the strong options in midfield should put us altogether stronger.

He's MK's problem now

Very much an Alan Judge moment. Judge just saw out his contract, doing nothing to risk injury to sign for Brentford. Notts offered their best but he has gone for the big bucks on offer at Franchise.

Yes we can still get promoted Notts aren’t a one man club, we have some very good players, great owners and a good coach. We will be there or thereabouts come May.

Don't get me wrong, I am upbeat about our promotion chances despite Crowley going to MK Dons.

I accept that the Club is bigger than just one player. Players come and go, we know that. I have seen it happen hundreds of times over the years I have been supporting Notts.

But I was struck by something that was said in 2023 where someone said that every Notts player has their price. I think it was from senior management.

Langstaff, Nemane & Crowley have come & gone, bought on the cheap or on a free, then sold for a profit.

My concern is this. If a good offer came in for Jodi next week would the owners sell? I think they would if the price was right.

The three players we have brought in one for an undisclosed fee, one on a free, & the other one loan. Will the two that are permanent be developed into good players then sold on in a few years time?

Is that the type of Club that we are going to be, because it very much looks like it to me.

I think it could be a positive thing to ensure that the club pays it's own way & doesn't rely on it's owners to keep financing the club like we see at other clubs.

But can the club climb the league pyramid doing it this way? It certainly isn't going to be done quickly like we see with Wrexham who appear to have a different model for success.

I am debating this question in my head, and the answer isn't as clear, and so I will wait to see how the new signings do and how Stuart Maynard might be impacted with the departure of Dan Crowley.

Our team is highly competitive. I do have every faith in the ability and quality that remains.

Do we need to look for a replacement in the AM position? I really don't know. Conor Grant and Curtis Edwards look capable, but I just wonder if we have made ourselves a little limited in that area at the expense of strengthening elsewhere.

@ChrisThere are a few candidates for the number 10 position.

The most creative player that we know of is Jodi Jones. Would he be as influential as him being on the wings? Not sure about that.

We have the new player Whitaker who has played in an attacking Midfield role as well as attacker for Everton, but he will need time to bed in.

Abbott has been tried in that position but he is a loanee, so we need someone permanent in that role

There is Grant, Brown & Edwards but I'm not sure that they are creative players, especially compared to Dan & Ruben.

We will just have to see how Stuart solves this conundrum on Saturday when the team is picked.
