Notts are in the playoffs & also have a chance of being automatically promoted to League one.

Question is, are Notts fully prepared for League one & with it a higher financial commitment for the Club too?

There is a noticeable difference between League One & League Two, though it's not as stark as the gap between League One & the Championship.

League One is generally considered to have a higher quality of play, more established clubs, & potentially larger fanbases than League Two.

Of the four clubs that were promoted last season from League 2, we've seen Crawley relegated back to League 2 after just one season in League 1.

And Mansfield Town have struggled in League one after being promoted,& they are actually celebrating the fact that they avoided relegation.

On the other hand, Wrexham have been promoted to the Championship & Stockport are in the playoffs.

These two clubs have shown that with adequate investment, it is possible to be very competitive at a higher level after promotion.

Right now if we were to get promoted, I wouldn’t feel particularly confident about next season. My biggest concern is how the majority of our points from this season have been gained against teams in the bottom half of the table, we won’t get that luxury in League 1.

In my opinion it would mean we would be relying heavily on the summer recruitment to be spot on. We would need another top striker, another top number 10, another top midfielder and another top centre back… As a minimum. Our recruitment is generally very good but to add several key players all in one go would be a challenge.

Wrexham and Stockport are a bit of an anomaly for me, particularly Wrexham, but both have spent money only we could dream of. I think we'd be fine in terms of a decent budget though, our average attendance right now would see us as the 8th highest in League 1 (And this would increase even more if we were to be promoted).

I think we can take a bit of hope from Crawley though, they did a lot better than I thought given they had their team dismantled prior to the start of the season. I don’t think we would be in a scenario anywhere like that, if we don't lose any key players it's easier to build on.

The four relegation spots in League 1 are a killer though, especially right now as it’s such a strong league. If we went up and someone somehow was able to offer us 20th position, I’d 100% take it.

Let’s get promoted first then worry about it. 😉

Nothing wrong in debating whether Notts are fully prepared for League 1. If Notts were promoted there would certainly need to be improvements in certain areas to allow Notts to compete at a higher level.

@Robbie I didn’t say it’s wrong to debate it, I’m joining the debate by saying let’s wait until we are promoted before worrying about whether we’ll survive league one or not.

I’m sure the club will have contingency plans for if we are promoted and also plans if we aren’t promoted.
