I think that sets the bar. If we're not offering Sam Austin a deal of any kind, I expect to see some real quality coming through the doors this summer. And one or two of the contracted players moving on a well.

There seem to be a lot of academy players offered pro contracts too, I hope that's more than a numbers game. I am very impressed with Harrison Hazard, though, he's been excellent whenever I've seen him play.

Some players under contract will definitely be moving on, I feel sorry for Sam Austin and I would have kept Whittaker, apart from that no real surprises.

No, I met his dad at a B team game earlier this season and it definitely wasn't Micky! Look out for him, though. For me, he's been the pick of the players coming through in this batch.

The players that have been released is no surprise & who I expected. I think it demonstrates as well that the January transfer window didn't turn out as expected & I'm sure the club will learn from that.

I would expect to see some players under contract leaving either by transfer or on loan.

I would expect Morias & TraorΓ© to be on that list along with Edwards & Reynolds. I hope Jatta isn't transferred but the owners do like to sell if there is a profit to be made.

I'd like to see what Traore can offer with a full pre season behind him. Jatta looked exhausted from around January onwards. I'd guess he's never played so many minutes in a season in his life, and it's a physical league. I'd sure he'll be better equipped next season. Although if money like that is on offer, it makes sense to take it.

Nothing too surprising but i’s sad to know we’ve seen the last of Sam Austin in Notts shirt. I understand we already have a number of players similar to him so it would’ve restricted us from strengthening. Still, he was a player you could always rely on in terms of effort and application. Pretty sure he’ll end up at another League 2 club.

And I’ll be interested to see where Whitaker's career goes from here, again had we not had so many players already contracted maybe we might have kept him.

It's super encouraging to see 9 academy players offered deals. Got to be a good sign as these will have been earnt by merit. It does feel like we are much closer to finally seeing a player from the academy becoming a real part of the first-team squad.

Looks like Stuart Maynard is going to be retained for another season. If that's the case Notts need to increase the number of coaching staff so he can count on plenty of support & alternative ideas & strategies.

@RobbieΒ I’m not at all surprised that the owners are going to stick with Maynard, they don’t do knee jerk reaction or listen to keyboard warriors on social media, Maynard said in a recent interview that new coaching staff would be added during the close season and that the reason they didn’t during this season was because they didn’t want to disrupt things, so they stuck with the people the players know.

That's the very least we should expect. Let's be honest, once Matt Saunders left, things started to go downhill. SM needs experienced staff around him. Otherwise it will be rinse and repeat next season.Β

Perhaps Maynard was forecasting his own downfall!!!! Perhaps a whole new set of coaching staff are on the horizon!!!!

I didn’t actually listen to the post-match interview until now (because I just wanted to forget about the match over the weekend) but it does give me a strong impression that Stuart will be here next season.

He does sound very confident he’ll be here next season, I’m pretty sure the if he was unsure he would’ve probably said so because he is usually pretty honest. He doesn’t mention anything like a meeting with the owners or new director of football to discuss his future...

We desperately need new coaches so I’m glad at the very least that will be addressed. I still find the bit about not adding coaches β€œbecause it had the potential to upset the group” a tad strange though. The coaches we would’ve bought in would’ve fit the club’s style, they wouldn’t have bought in coaches with totally opposing ideas!

I would like to believe Notts allowed Charlie Whitaker to leave due to them not wanting to match potential wage demands, rather than the club believing he isn't good enough. I personally would have given him a two-year deal. He looked very promising for us, and I know he only scored a few times, but he was a creative spark. Him and Will Jarvis, I felt could be the future of Notts.

The rest make a lot of sense to me.

Regarding Sam Austin, I have defended him in the past, but he hasn't been the same player we know he can be this past season. Much like Adam Chicksen, there are moments of brilliance, but the overall consistency is lacking. I wouldn't have started him in our away leg against the Dons, so I think he would have been more of an impact/squad player. The fact he could fill-in in several positions, that is something, but really there are better and more consistent players.

That said, Whitaker leaving seems like a loss, whereas I completely understand the retained list.

I can see the logic behind it. It'll be tough to replace Sam Slocombe - whoever comes in to replace him will know he's going to be second choice behind Bass. In Slocombe we had someone who accepted he would likely be second fiddle, but who could also step in and do a job if called upon. I really don't want to go back to the days of panic-signing a keeper when our first choice gets injured. He may have wanted to leave though.

I'm disappointed about Austin, like Jones he was out for a long time this season and was clearly rusty when he came back. But then the fact that we were relying on him also tells a story. As we found out to our cost last season, we can't be sentimental when we need to improve the squad. I hope they all find new clubs, the promotion squad are all club heroes in my eyes.

Just an observation

Notts announced their retained list. Did Stuart Maynard have input in that decision before he left Notts?

Surely it would have been better to wait until the new Head Coach had been appointed first.

Contracts weren't up in most cases until end of June. The decision could have waited a little longer.
