Some people's shopping lists aren't realistic. The January window is very difficult to start off with. Notts can't just go out and sign six players - ones that fans would expect to be better than what we have, good enough for L1 in fact, not susceptible to injury, have the right attitude, and be willing to sign for a fourth tier side with a maybe 50:50 chance of promotion. Two good first team signings would be amazing. Not six.

Also, why disrupt things so much? Since our poor three-game start we've averaged the required two points a game, and that's been a squad effort.

There'll definitely be another GK.

Palmer's injury may spook them. The evidence so far is that Norburn would drag down a promotion push, so they may prioritise another CM.

We have a lot of attacking mids, but none get near to the Didzy/Crowley standard. That might be impossible in the Jan window but wouldn't stop them taking a punt on somebody

I think Notts have good cover with the wingbacks. I would like to see Kouhyar given a start on the left.

We need more goalkeeping cover to push Roos but after his improved performance against Bristol Rovers, hopefully it will give him confidence.

Definitely need another striker, an attacking midfielder & central midfielder. Can we bring some players in that are strong, physical, & mean who can mix it with the roughest?

I would also like to see mature & experienced League 2 players rather than young up & coming players.

Just to bring the boring technicalities into our fun fantasy window 🤓😅 we can register a maximum of 22 players, but that doesn't include goalkeepers or any players under 21. Right now, we have 19 players registered, as Hinchy was left out.

Even with the 3 free spaces we’ve got a pretty big squad (thanks to most our loan players being under 21). I think we’d need players to leave as well and I agree with @Piethagoram that Cotter and Ajofree going back would make sense.

I don't think we need tons of movement, assuming Palmer's injury isn't too bad I think my main priority would be a top attacking midfielder but I agree this could be challenging in January. I don't think we need any more wingbacks and we only play 1 striker so another would mean we'd have 4 of them. We need to make a decision on Mai Traore though because at the minute we act like we’ve only got 2 strikers, we either have to start using him or replace him. I’ve no idea why it's not worked so far, he’s played over 50 matches in the top division in Norway so he’s clearly got something about him, is it just confidence?

So I've done the numbers, albeit roughly and over about 10 minutes, so pinch of salt.

I'd say that after a keeper (which I don't think count's to the 22) which is imperitive, we're really struggling with Grant. His numbers are quite bad for a player in the attacking category.

  • For the 18 games he's played this season, he's scored 2, which puts him scoring every 9 games, effectively every 2 months.

  • He's assisted once.

  • He's only played a full 90 once this season which was his best performance against Swindon.

You can be assured that the board and analysts are looking at this thinking it's not even a fine margin, it's quite a chasmic one.

I might be blinkered in that we've had Ruben, Crowley and Didzy aleviate bad performances with creativity and clinical ability, but I do feel he's the first to go when we are pushing games as no one has faith in him performing on a consistant level.

What happens to Cotter and Aljofree in the first week of the transfer window will give us a good indication of how many moves to expect.

I'm optimistic about the window because I think the bro's have shown courage and guile with getting Montague back, first and foremost.

If they get a new GK, 6/10.

If they get a new GK and a new AM, 8/10.

If they get anything more than that, 10/10.

As has already been said there won't be a massive influx of new players. Two or three of real quality players though are needed for promotion. While the win at Bristol Rovers was a good one, we shouldn't let it paper over the cracks. We were poor before the sending off.
