Bye bye Bart?

I've been told it's fairly average but personally I'd be happy with the figure.

We'd never get 1m for him, not even on a 5 year deal. We wouldn't be able to negotiate the fee, so it would always likely be a price fitting for a league one club. Supposedly it'll go straight towards what we lose this year, so I hope we get a good cup run!

There's always rumours, I'm just glad we got something personally.

From what i've heard there is actually no money involved at all, either now or in the future, Bart was on quite big wages at Notts hence why we have let him go for nothing, unfortunately that is the state of modern day league 1 football when your main centre forward is out for the season.

As I said before good luck to him at Ipswich I expect him to be their No1, also I do understand why we let him go for nothing, both financially & progressively, we need a replacement for JS and the wages freed up by Bart's transfer will pay for both Bart's & JS replacement.

We cannot expect RT & ET to keep funding wages the club cannot sustain on it's own.

That would be somewhat disappointing, though it seems wages are an issue.

I'd be wary of spoiling the good feeling which is going around, as some might think we're trying to be too cheap and it's all about building. If he's gone for nothing, then it's a lost opportunity because even 25k would have helped us (that's not the figure I've been told).

RT cannot keep bankrolling the club, we have to build a platform where we can wheel and deal. Sell off assets to grow bigger and stronger, if we can start doing this right - there's no reason why we can't build like other sides have such as Peterborough (before they had a chairman who spent freely). There's sides who make an habit of developing talent, then selling and repeating the process.

Bart will be a player I will keep tabs on.

I'm not trying to spoil any good feeling, in fact quite the opposite, if you have a player that is, say (to be ridiculous) on £10,000 a week, which limits the budget massively, surely it is better to let him leave knowing that you have a more than adequate replacement and that £10,000 a week can go on providing the type of player that you manager wants / needs and can also provide another player and more financial stability?

For me it was a brave decision to let him go for nothing but one that will only help contribute to the good feeling in the long run as any cup run etc will now be able to finance the team in the right way, not just financing the over inflated wage bill.

Some people will always find fault in no matter what RT does, but for me he deserves massive credit for having the balls to make the right decisions, even if they might not seem that way in the heat of the situation.

Agreed. Using your 10k figure per week. Well do the math. Thats a shed load of cash the club has 'generated' in one swoop.

Everyone wants a transfer fee, but lets remember Bart wasn't one of our youth team products. We should remember the good games, says thanks and use his freed up wages to keep us afloat.

My point exactly, I would imagine his wages would most probably have been within the £3500 - £5000 bracket with all bonuses included so that's in the region of £250,000 in one fell swoop.

As you said thanks very much, Bart single handedly kept us in more games than I can remember which in the cold light of day made the difference between league 1 & league 2. If you add the figure of staying in league 1 then that's surely pushing the total figure towards £600,000.

Not bad for a player who we got on a free transfer is it??

I wonder if he'll start for Ipswich? I play fantasy championship and he'd be fantastic value for money if he starts. Need all the money I can get if I'm going to be able to afford Craig Bryson......

SD said on radio Nottingham this morning that he wasn't involved in the negotiation but we didn't get an upfront payment but hinted there would be future payments and said it frees up a wage which he can use to bring in new faces.

Bart was actually in the reception when I entered Meadow Lane on Saturday, I also saw Mike Edwards. Still not sure no up front fees are a good way in doing business but I just hope we sign a keeper that will push fans.

He needs confidence and the desire to start.
