Now here's a thing, Shaun Derry was sent to the stand in Tuesday nights game so presumably he will be banned from the touchline for at least one game.

My question is can he name himself as a substitute and get around the touchline ban? He isn't banned as a player so presumably he can and whats more as a sub he can warm up running down the pitch and give instructions to players at the same time so he doesn't have to stay in his technical area.

I asked @Cobby and another friend, I was also tempted to quiz this on the social pages but who knows?

I suppose he can't, however it depends on how it's judged I guess. Perhaps @ivansneck can shed some light on this ;)

They don't let you off the hook like that at Southern league  level that's for sure, and obviously player-managers are slightly more common at this level

@weymouthPIE is correct with his response, if he names himself as a player then his ban would become a 1 game playing ban

A touch line ban is, precisely that - it applies to either side of the touch line!

Derry was interviewed on talksport this morning and he made it sound like he could play when asked by the presenter

This is all a very confusing subject in my opinion. But as long as he doesn't get into trouble if he tries it
