R.I.P Dave Mackay

@super_ram's told me stories of Dave Mackay, he was one of them players you admired for doing the right thing despite being before my time but the majority of things my father's told me about Derby included Mackay. Including the impressions, off field antics and if I am not mistaken this is also a player he's met.

He's died aged 80. :(

It's this tweet which I noticed that lead me to the above story. R.I.P Dave Mackay

Just heard this news on the radio and was about to post on here, I remember Dave playing for Derby, he also managed them and Florist. He passed away at the QMC so was still local.

So Dave is the player who was considered 'past it' when Derby signed him? Clough went down to meet him with Taylor and convinced him to sign? Basically by not leaving him/persisting.

^ That made me laugh Super told me, even more so when I watched the 'Dammed United'. :P

(Watch me have the wrong player now) ;)

R.I.P :( :(

I knew Dave had been ill for a while but I was still shocked and upset when I heard the news.I was on holiday in Great Yarmouth when the news came on the radio that he had signed for my team and what a signing. He was already a legend at Spurs and went on to become a true legend at Derby.I can see him now ,with his barrel chest, patrolloing our defence, cajoling andΒ  encouraging all the team around him.He went on to manage us theΒ  second time we were crowned champions.I did meet him once when he was standingΒ  outside the Baseball ground chatting to fans .He was really friendly and happy to talk to us.He would walk into any team in the world ,in my opinion.

Thanks for the memories,Dave.RIP.
