Alan Sheehan is open to a return to Notts County.

The Irishman has been told he can leave Bradford City on loan, which has put a number of League One clubs on alert for the former Magpies captain, who has just made his comeback from injury.

And the Post understands he would be more than willing to rejoin the Magpies, having made it clear they are the only League Two club he would join having helped inspire their 'Great Escape' under Shaun Derry in the 2013/14 season.

Notts' defence is currently under intense scrutiny, and the Magpies are currently playing without an authentic left-back, with Blair Adams and Rhys Sharpe currently out of favour.

Sheehan was a hugely popular character with the fans during the 'Great Escape' campaign when he helped lead the team clear of relegation.

He was crowned player of the season, having played 44 times and scored seven goals as Derry's side stayed up against all the odds.

Bradford then swooped for Sheehan, who can also play at centre-back, at the end of that season and handed the former Leeds United defender a two-year contract.

He made 31 appearances in his first season at the Bantams, scoring once.

And he has played three times so far this campaign and delivered an impressive performance on each occasion, but boss Phil Parkinson has decided he can leave the club on loan.

Good player for us and gave all to the cause in the great escape season. Really disliked his handling of the wage thing though and being honest, are there better cbs out there? I'm sure we could sort the left back out ourselves. We need a quality commanding centre back (s) for me.

He is better than the shower of casualties that Moniz & Branston have saddled us with!

However, the prospects of Sheehan returning here are beyond slight - hard to see it happening. The manner of his departure would, surely, preclude him returning under the present ownership, and rightly so. I liked him and he'd be fine as a player tbh but he ain't coming IMO, forget him.

Mark Stallard said on Tuesday night, there was supposed to be a 'done deal' but it wasn't completed on time.

It seems there may be something more to this but, we will have to wait and see. It looked very much like a rumour at one stage, we discuss this within the PONcast which I hope to get up at some stage.

Well, that would be some turnaround - for both parties.

I'd be delighted if he signs, or has signed, he is miles better than the assorted tripe Moniz has saddled us with - and Hollis!

Hollis is improving with each game he plays, we need to get off his back and show him some support, having Sheehan alongside him should help him progress further.

I can't believe all this tripe crap, have you been to the games?, not always the result we want, but we have signed some very talented players for league 2 level, and I am confident we will end up being a very good team. Champions come May would not surprise me,

My thoughts exactly.

Sheehan is a massive improvement on the dross that Moniz has signed. Hollis is pub player, he isn't going to look any better with an army alongside him. The flat-footedness, the slow reactions, the clumsy style - he is stuck with all of them. He's utter cr@p, end of story, sadly he always wil be. He lacks the necessary talent and skill. Why people continually defend him defies credibility tbh.

Welcome back Alan - we need you.

I agree. There are some questionable signings in there... Audel, Sharpe etc...Β

But on the whole, players like Swerts, Stead, McLeod, Snijders, Aborah etc.. are a big positive for me

Hmm, MacLeod is the only genuine quality signing amongst them. A few, Burke, Atkinson, Snijders, Campbell & Hewitt for example, have potential. Sprockel, when fit, looks more than handy. Aborah has tons of skill but doesn't apply it effectively in areas that hurt the opposition. If he did, he'd be playing in the Championship.

As for the rest - has beens, never will be's and bench warmers. If we finish above half way it will be a major achievement tbh. Promotion is, pretty much, beyond this squad. If we are champions in May, I'd show you my operation.

There's a few rose tinted specs in evidence I'm afraid - a bit of honesty and reality wouldn't go amiss. I'd love us to go up but just can't see it. Happy to be proved wrong tho'.

sprockel not convinced by an I've saw him in all the games he's started Audel is okay but should stick to the basics instead of trying to pass it out from the back I like the look of de silva but in the no10 role small quick and tricky and can play on the flanks Hewitt class full back noble Thompson smith abroah Milsom when fit more hen enough quality in the middle Burke Campbell snidjers offer pace to burn stead not seen anything yet McLeod pace power strength and class finisher that's what you pay the money for but don't think our squad is bad as people think we just haven't defended stupid goals I look in that top 6 and can't see a class act team no where so I think we can go up if we stay alert focused and battle the quality is there the battle isn't in some players they need to realise it's a physical bullying league

Shades of the old Notts boys creeping back?

From Sheenans Twitter. In relation to his move to the Lane (again)
@MattAlexander81 thanks for sorting it brother.

I thought we had cut all ties with Alexander? Obviously not.

I'm not sure moniz signed all this tripe the Dutch ones deffo but who signed Audel sharpe Campbell etc it's a panel don't think moniz knew of some of these players at all

Campbell? Tripe? Don't think so, and remember Sharpe was signed with one eye towards the future as well

Agreed, there is the makings of a very good team.

Glad to see Sheehan back, always seemed a very steady, reliable player and also an extra option for the problematic CB position.

I just feel it is a shame the defence was treated as a lesser priority during the summer. If we had a settled back four we would comfortably be in a play-off spot by now.
