This is just me now but why do most younger lads my age 20-30s wear all this Stone Island Burberry etc etc to make a statement of acting hard or tough .

I just don't understand why anyone would want to wear this to think you're a big man

I mean it's basically a clothing item that singles you out even if you're not a thug and says hey I wanna scrap even if you don't realise it.

This has been happening since Adam was a lad, every generation's youth seem to have a uniform that they have to wear.

 

50's - teddy boys, suede jackets and brothel creepers

60's - mods and rockers, leather jackets and parkers

70's - skin heads, jean and big boots

 

etc.

 

Personally I was a mod but couldn't afford a scooter or a parker. :angel:

I was under the impression it's what the lads in the "firms" use to differentiate themselves from the main set of supporters.  There was a documentary on the BBC recently which was interesting.

Ha ha that reminded me of being at school. Some hard looking kid would ask "are you a mod or a rocker", you didn't know what he was so rather than upsetting him you'd say "I'm a mocker" :biggrin:

I have spoken to lads who wear the clothes, it's their choice and many I find to be friendly - it's more a trend and yes, some is connected with people who do want to fight/look hard. Yet, I don't judge really because there's people who think and act this way in their normal skin.

This said, I much prefer proper football clothing - such as shirts/tshirts relating to the sport.

If only we could get more 'colours' in and around Meadow Lane.

The point I tried making is people actually don't understand what there wearing and act hard after watching green street.

Then when they get attacked they wonder why it's the clothing it's basically A sign to football fans ur up for trouble.

B the police will spot you and make you're day as uncomfortable as they can especially if you're younger

At least the culture hasn't started using my favorite brand, Fred Perry! While it has had a number of sub-cultures over the years, I'd rather Hooliganism is kept well away from it .

Fred Perry is a decent make I AV a few Fred Perry jumpers and Ralph Lauren

I have worn Stone island, Lacoste, Armani etc for the past 30 years to football and never been involved in a fight or received any hassle from opposition fans or police, just prefer it to wearing colours, each to their own I suppose.

Again nothing wrong if you wear it I have had a stone island jumper the old stuff I paid like 300-400 it's alright to wear.

But the thing that annoys me is when people wear it and try and act hard after they have just watched Green Street I wear Lacoste Ralph Lauren etc etc .

Just it's mostly a sign to idiots who will try cause trouble not saying you're a idiot either just saying some blokes are and play on it to try act tough.

I buy clothes to cover my modesty and keep me warm, so I'll stick to Peacocks and Primark. :biggrin:

I might be veering slightly off-topic here, but you see far fewer up-to-date replica shirts in Germany than you do in England. Quite a few of the ones you do see are ancient - people buy them if they like the design, but not religiously every season. My local team responds to this by producing some really snazzy T-shirts, hooded tops and jackets that under-50s don't mind wearing - Notts on the other hand sell a load of sub-C&A tat with a Notts badge stitched on (badly). I haven't seen a shirt I've liked in years either, even the decent ones are ruined by huge advertising or a great big square on the back.

 

As for the "scenes" such as casuals, that's more to do with society and people's need to belong and fit in somewhere than football. It's a milder version of the phenomenon that motivates people to join gangs or worse.
